For what reason? I've tried doing that to help with landings, but it turns out I never look at the altimeter on landings. I know I should, but it's already too much work to contain my childish urge to barrel roll on short final.

@@funky-sim yeah, you are right. It depends on how crazy you want to go with it xDD I used to fly with the real Su-25 pilots, so they would even wait 2 min or something for the hyroscopes to be ready before they started rolling in Lock On 2 xDD

Thanks for the fixes! I checked them out and they look good to me. This is a great campaign. I'd played it years ago and didn't remember much about it but definitely wanted to come back to it when I started making videos. I was actually surprised it wasn't more broken given how old it is and the way that DCS tends to break old missions. I don't have a lot of reach but hopefully a few more players will see this stuff and play the Su-25A and this campaign as well as the other stuff you've put out for other aircraft. It is a lot of fun and a very different experience from the Su-25T. If you're running DCS standalone, you should at least do the 2-week trial. And if you're not on standalone, you should switch. You can purchase the Su-25A individually or as part of the Flaming Cliffs package. If you wait until there's a sale, Flaming Cliffs is a great value.

It's hard to know what's going on without more information. It sounds like this is a problem for you generally rather than in a specific mission. It's possible to stay high to avoid MANPADs but you'll need to stay at about 4000+ meters AGL and it can be hard to employ the Su-25T's weapons while staying above that altitude. If there are low clouds then it's not even an option. A lot of the time I'll make attack runs at altitudes more like 1500-2000 meters AGL. That gives pretty good visibility while not making it difficult to get locks and employ missiles. The goal then is to find the target as quickly as possible, get a missile off the rail, and maintain as much distance as possible until the missile hits. That means slowing down and starting to turn even before the missile hits. Use the indicators on the Shkval screen to make sure you don't turn too much and lose the lock. Once the missile hits, I'll often turn sharply and dive with the throttle at idle to reduce my IR signature. I'll also put out a few flares in case I did get close enough for some IR missile to get launched at me. Once I've gotten low and built up a little distance from the threat, then I'll bring the engines back up and start climbing to prepare for the next attack. When this goes wrong it's usually because I got too close. That'll generally be because it took me too long to find the targets or I tried to attack multiple targets in one pass. So the easy fix is ... don't do that. Try to find the targets on your Shkval while still outside of max range of your missiles and launch just inside max range. If you can't find them that quickly, turn around, get some distance, and try again. Also don't attempt to attack multiple targets in a single pass until you are confident the anti-air threat is gone. Patience is critical to staying alive in the Su-25T. If you want to post a video I'll gladly take a look and let you know what I see.

@@Kolibri9111 you're gonna love mission 7 then. It's just a couple hours of flying in the pitch dark and nothing happens. I fell asleep 3 times trying to watch it back to make sure nothing got screwed up.

I'm focused on Flaming Cliffs stuff right now because that's where a lot of new players start and might need help finding content and approaching the missions. I'm almost done with the good Su-25T and Su-25A content I know about so I'll be moving on to the other FC aircraft soon.

@@iTube4U I don't think I changed any DCS settings, but I did remove ReShade. My ReShade settings sharpened and darkened things up a bit, which helped with spotting ground targets under most conditions but could look a bit harsh. I'm undecided on whether I'll start using it again but I'll try it this way for awhile.

@@vascomferreira I have most video settings cranked up but I'm not sure which ones would help most in this mission. You could modify the mission to start yourself right near the targets and then experiment with settings to see if anything helps. Really I think it comes down to experience doing this stuff in DCS. I'm familiar with the ground textures and the buildings and trees and have learned to look for the little inconsistencies that indicate something different is there. Like a few pixels that are a little too dark or shapes that don't fit the environment. Generally if I'm having trouble spotting the targets I'm not just gonna keep pressing in. I'll build up some distance, get some good altitude, slow down and try again. It's amazing what you can sometimes see on the second pass that you never saw on the first pass even though you were staring right at it.

@@russia7152 unfortunately DCS doesn't have an official module for the MiG-27. There's at least one community mod for it but I generally don't mess with community aircraft mods other than the A-4.

I recorded this awhile back before I was doing audio commentary on my videos, so I can only speculate what I was thinking. I think my plan was to ingress to and egress from each waypoint on consistent bearings so that I didn't get totally disoriented on each attack run. I watched a couple attack passes on the first of the target waypoints and it looks like I was using an ingress bearing of 120 and the reciprocal bearing 300 for egress. I egress to about 15 KM from the waypoint before turning back in. Finding the first unit to attack at each waypoint is the toughest part, but once you've killed one you've got a fireball and/or smoke cloud to look for on subsequent attack runs. To find that first target, just point the pipper well in front of where the targets could reasonably be and then start panning up while also panning left and right to make sure you don't miss the targets. If you get too close to the waypoint and you haven't found targets, just egress back to 15-20 KM away and try again. I'm sure you could do some trigonometry to come up with a more concrete plan for this, but with a bit of experience it's reasonable to do it by intuition. The LLTV pod has been reworked since this video was recorded and is now more difficult to use under most conditions. I plan to re-record this video and a few other of the night missions to address that, and I'll do commentary on this mission then. I think my overall approach will still revolve around being consistent with bearings, distances, and altitudes, but I'll also try to use the wingmen more efficiently to minimize the number of passes I need to make on each waypoint. So instead of just telling them to engage ground targets, I'll lock up one target, send wingman 2 to attack it, lock up something else, send wingman 3, lock up a third thing, send wingman 4, and then attack something myself if there's enough time. That way I can just fly high and slow and focus on commanding the wingmen. Probably at least one of the wingmen will get shot down, so there should be plenty use for my weapons as well.

For the older maps, definitely not. For the newer ones, they're getting closer to that but I don't know if any of the maps are there, especially when you're flying down low. Some of the new ones look like they might be using satellite imagery when you're flying up high though.

@@funky-sim A year or more ago I checked out that map and Qatar didn't have Doha buildings but your video saying it's Bahrain has town building shown. That's what got me wondering.

@@nightwaves3203 there are still no buildings at Doha. Just a couple radio towers. But Qatar isn't part of the detail area in this map. It's really focused on the Strait of Hormuz. All the airfields appear to be in the UAE or Iran. I don't even see the landmass for Bahrain on there. Not sure what you're asking for, but this is the Flaming Cliffs Su-25A. The mission is from one of the 2 campaigns that the aircraft mod comes with. Is there something else you need?

Technically it was friendlies that marked the bad guy position with smoke, but maybe our official story is that they accidentally set off smoke on their own positions.

@@ricbish4122 awesome! The first mission is tough but doable with some patience and caution. After that it's smoother sailing. The creator has also published this campaign for the Mirage F1, MiG-15bis, MiG-19P, MiG-21bis, Su-25T, F-5E, and F-86F.

I do work in a field that puts me in close contact with many veterans from all the branches. Maybe I am lucky enough to have had some of that rub off on me.
