Great sound mate. How do you find the ride-a-bility now? Is it still smooth at low speeds and how is the fuel economy for you? Also, how do you find the forwards? Just bought the 23 in White Sand Pearl, beautiful machine. Can see why these are so popular. Thanks from 🇦🇺 ride safe bro.
@@Maggieismydog hey pal, thanks for the compliments. I’m really happy with mine. I really like this cam. I find it to be very torquey and responsive. It also sounds fantastic. The bike really does not like cruising at low rpm. Anything below 1800-2000 you’ll notice it jitter. Over 2000 though, it’s rocket ship and very smooth. I’m 5’14” so the forwards just made sense. I can still take corners at speed but I do miss standing on the pegs to stretch the legs out. It’s really comfortable and maneuverable with the forwards. You can take off ramps at 90 kmph with ease. Careful on the throttle through turns because this bike loves to spin that rear tire. Fuel economy is abysmal. I don’t know what it’s supposed to be because I never rode mine stock. If you’re opening up the taps and keeping those revs up, maybe 3/4 to full tank per 150 km? I don’t exactly know but the calculated range drops roughly 5 km per 1 km. Even on the highways in 6th, it’s not ideal for range. I took mine on a 200 km round trip, starting with a full tank and was sweating trying to find a gas station on the way back. I do ride mine a little spicy most of the time. I’m not very kind to this bike and have been abusing her, she may have that battered syndrome because she keeps coming back for more. So your mileage may vary. I wouldn’t change it though. I love the setup. There’s a guy on RU-vid called Master Tech Miller. He’s in your neck of the woods and an absolute genius. I’m f*cking pissed. I’m heading into winter and your summer is right around the corner. Happy riding bud! 🇨🇦 > 🇦🇺
@@Dabocado hey Mate, thanks for the reply and so much info. I have owned quite a few bikes in my 25 years of riding. This is by far my favourite bike I have had. I’m still breaking it in, so riding very conservatively. I’m getting 350-400km on a full tank. I’m 5’10 and find the mids good but am considering the forwards. I had a stage 1 done before picking it up. I have freedom declaration turnouts 2 into 2 pipes and tuned. I have watched many of Millers vids, thanks for that. He knows his shit and puts out some great content. Really appreciate your info on the range too, I have time to look around. Not in a rush for the stage 2. I live in Melbourne so our weather is extremely unsettled, hope to get some nice days, my girl won’t be seeing a drop of rain haha! Thanks again and ride safe mate!
@@Maggieismydog I made the decision to switch from sport bikes to cruisers 2 years ago and haven’t looked back. I was always a hyper-naked fan, so the LRS just made sense. I’m super happy with mine and like you, it’s my favourite so far. I had freedom pipes on my breakout. Looked beautiful, sounded filthy.
@@DerekHx45x47 The LRS is a tonne of fun to ride. Be careful though, I came from litre bikes and wanted something similar power wise but with a v-twin and cruiser style. I saw the Buell super cruiser and instead of waiting figured I would build my own. With the bikes and parts I could have bought two litre bikes and they’ll still dust me lol. It’s a great town bike though and handles the twisties well. The options to customize it and make it your own are essentially infinite.
I’d like to get a cam, full exhaust, tune, etc. I will probably cap my power at around 95hp / 110 torque cause it will still be fast. I’d like to keep the sound under 110db. What is yours? Any suggestions??
I’m not sure if you’re asking about the entire setup or just exhaust recommendations, sorry buddy! Well mines roughly 120 hp 130 tq. I purposely built it to be quick and mobile. I used a high lift cam, some aggressive tuning, better plugs, wires, intake manifold, injectors, etc. My exhaust is made by Horse Power Inc and it’s loud enough to knock your fillings out. There’s more parts on there which I can remember right now. For exhaust, there’s Dr. Jekly and Mr. Hyde. They have a butterfly valve you can fold if you want to keep the noise down. Then open it on the highway and have that pure Harley sound. For the Horsepower you’re after, I would recommend putting your bike on the dyno first. A stock Harley should be close to those numbers (depending on year, model, engine, etc..) If not, you’re going to want to get a less aggressive cam without as much lift. The market is littered with them and I unfortunately don’t know them all. Screaming Eagle came may be what you’re looking for. Cycle Rama has a 480 cam which is just a torque monster, she’s called the stump puller. For a tune, dyno jet will always be the best. Get it on the dyno, run the numbers and tweak it how you want it to be. With what you’re looking for, I would pop by your local dealer and see what they say. A lot of the screaming eagle parts may be exactly what you’re looking for.
@@Dabocado I like your setup. I just don't want it to get too loud. I want the lope (particularly at idle) , but I don't want it to get too obnoxious as you get on the throttle. If you put it on dynojet, you can void the warranty. The harley dealer said they can put a power commander on it, and cap the power, etc. It won't void the warranty then. The hp is irrelevant (I'm saying it already has too much for me). I just want the sound. Yours sounds awesome! I am wondering if i can get the same sound as yours, but not get the db's too high. I would think capping the power might help? I love the HPI, but I don't think that they make a baffle. I was thinking if I put a stage 2 with a full exhaust, and a restrictive baffle, it might help with keeping the noise down. I have looked at Jekyl and Hyde, and like them btw, but the harley tech seemed to think that while they sound and look good, they aren't particularly well made.
Did it really take 6 months to get your HPI? Thanks for responding to all my questions, btw! Yours sounds awesome! I think at idle i prefer it even over a panhead, I'm just saying I'd like it to get a little quieter once your get going down the road. I might be asking for too much (maybe we are getting into VVT). Happy and safe riding!
In essence I want the lope of your cam, exhaust combination, etc. but I want to cap how loud it starts to get while riding it through higher rev ranges. I would be changing the cam and exhaust for sound, not power (I can again have a harley tech build out a map with almost the exact hp / torque I ask him to - so in my case it will be capped). Hope that makes sense.
@@ericthedude9457 I tossed out my warranty day one lol. That’s definitely not for everyone though and I understand where you’re coming from. The chop you hear on mine is mostly the cam. The HPI has tiny little baffles, it will always be loud and unfortunately there’s not much that can be down about that. HPI builds to order but I was lucky enough to find one on a rack at a custom bike shop, so naturally scooped it. Sometimes you can find new ones for sale online. A two to one will offer more power to your bike. A two to two will offer better airflow with less back pressure (the M8’s love back pressure). Freedom Performance Pipes makes some top quality gear. They have 2-1, 2-2, 2-1-2, classic style, etc. A 2-2 will always sound better than a 2-1. Freedom also offers quite baffles for all their pipes if noise is a concern. I have a breakout on my channel which I slapped some freedom pipes on. They don’t have the quiet baffles but if you want you can check it out to hear how they sound. That was just a stage 1 with stock cam and screaming eagle tuner. Careful with the cam’s. A cam can void your warranty. Honestly, most dealers are pretty good though and may cover your warranty if something’s busted. They get paid regardless. If you wanted to try the freedom pipes with baffles and an S&S 475 cam, I think you’ll be thoroughly surprised. The 475 has a real nice chop.
@@nhzxboi the bike is great. It’s is so much fun. The feel, torque and that beautiful angry hog chop. Believe it or not, this bike can dummy the 600’s. I bought it knowing what I wanted and added a bunch of custom parts as a project over the winter to make it exactly what I want. I’ve owned a couple bikes and this by far the best. If you get a bike, you’ll understand.
I did sorta the same with S&S475 and SP Concepts on my '23 FXLRS. I love it even if it's a little bit too loud on trips(ear plugs help). However, it does make riding in traffic at very slow speeds a bit chunky. Sounds great though.
I have a 2019 Road King, 107, cr483 cam, Arlen Ness big sucker air cleaner, 6.3 injectors, power vision tuner, stock head pipes with Sharkroad slip-ons without baffles. If I roll into the throttle like you do it spins the tire. I have to be really careful in 1st gear, and shifting into 2nd gear. My bike is a beast.
@@robertschulz5293 I hear you buddy. I spin mine all the time. I’m luckily I have enough to still have some balance and control. I use a lot of quarter - to mid throttle and have found the sweet spot of grip and acceleration. Takes a bit of getting used to. However though, there is a very slim margin of between how quickly you can accel and completely lose it. She’s a blast.
@@robertschulz5293same. I have it but I can’t turn it on. Bike won’t let me lol. I don’t know is that’s a Thundermax thing or not but I don’t care for it anyway.
Does it feel comfortable for just cruising speeds as well, or does it feel choppy? Meaning do you always feel like you have to be on the throttle with that cam? Oh, and do you have an auto tune in there or did you have it properly tuned?
@@HeyNoah it’s not terrible. In the lower rpm’s, bike isn’t very happy. It lives in the midrange and performs best there. If you downshift too late, you’ll definitely notice it. Downshift in the sweet spot and it’s super smooth. The bike is happier at speed, but does just fine everywhere else. Mine is auto tuning. I want to get myself on a dyno eventually but have been having difficulties finding someone who’s available.
@@sabirmiah1985 I have a chin mount from chin mounts. They got me with a Facebook add. It’s pretty slick though. Running a GoPro hero 12 with an upgraded mic.
@@sabirmiah1985 if you don’t mind spending a fortune on gas, my setup isn’t too bad. I would probably ditch the thundermax though and do a dyno jet tune.
I did the same cam to my LRST. Totally changed the dynamics of the bike. Almost feels like too much power for the frame. Bike just wants to live in the 90 mph range in 5th
I did the 475c S&S/w s&s superstreet exhaust to my 2022 fxlrs. And ya, completely changed the bike. I totally get the 90 range. That seems to be her sweet spot. 90-95.
how can you be at 71mph at only 2.5krpm in 3rd???? I would be at 3k in 5th with my 22 LRS at that speed, maybe higher rpm... did you change the gear ratios?
I just picked up the 2024 Breakout with the same Freedom pipes but stock air cleaner. What tuner did you have fitted and did you have the bike re-mapped?
@@brantwinter you are correct. That is the standard pipe. The bike was warm when it was idling there and it could just be my mic not picking it up properly.
Definitely getting this exhaust on my fxlrst! I don’t have too much knowledge on what cam to pick... How does the 483 feel on streets and freeway speeds +
@@marcocastillo3413 I find it really good on the street for acceleration. It seems to work best at a little higher rpm and I find myself cruising in 3rd gear a lot around town. This is nice for sound as well. Highway is really smooth. You can easily pick up a couple km or miles with a slight twist of the throttle. I’ve heard good things about the S&S 475 cam. I’m a big fan of APE / Cycle Rama. Make sure to grab one of their comp ramps if you go with them. The HPI exhaust looks and sounds good but is really pricey. There’s a lot of good stainless 2-1’s out there for sound and power. TBR and blockhead come to mind.
Man, that exhaust sounds great & that wedge air filter looks awesome. I don’t like that you have to worry about hard right turns though….otherwise I’d buy this set up & swap out my TAB exhaust.
@@AK-le1wm if you’re worried about too stiff I would be cautious with the ohlins. I find them a lot firmer than the stock. The stock was spongy and the ohlins a lot firmer.
@@D-doggy77 I really like it. I think it’s a must have. The bike feels a lot more stable and I have a lot more confidence hitting bumps or taking corners at speed. It’s a lot stiffer than stock and the bike feels far more planted.
I was told thundermax can figure itself out over a bit of time. Dyno tuning is better though and more accurate I believe. It’s kind of out of my realm of expertise.
I done my 2023 lowrider st at 900 miles. It's called pay with AFFIRM. you get your parts and pay a small payment over 12 months so u don't go broke at once... plus with new bikes the camplate and oil pump is PLENTY good enough to do a stg2 all u need is cam lifters tappet cuffs and pushrods.... all around a1k$ USD$
@@Hoodsolo I’ve got a 107 so I need the oil pump and cam plate too along with a thunder max cause it’s worthless to buy the parts if they won’t work after install, it’s around $2500 for everything
@codysikels4156 best to get it tuned with powervision and dyno you get the most out of it... thundermax is good but it just doesn't beat a dyno tune. I've had 2 tmax and now my powervision and hands down PV for win tmax doesn't allow timing adjustments. It's primitive as hell
Nice setup! I got the same cam on my 2022 lowrider S with stock intake and Bassani Road Rage 2 exhaust. Dyno tuned says 123 hp and 146 torque.. seems a little high wonder what number you have
Beautiful bike I’m picking up one this Saturday mines black with the same exhaust and black tips that air cleaner looks great what type is it thanks mate
@@Dallas-d8s holy moly, that’s insane and definitely not worth that kind of money. I thought we were priced up in Canada. Check out Alpha Performance Engines. I put that exhaust on my bike but with the black shields. It looks and sounds great, but I dragged it on the first tight right curve I took. It almost ripped the lower tip off the muffler. You have to remember to take it easy on the right leans.
Nice! I’m getting the thundermax tune done on my new 23 lrs. Also getting a stage 4 se kit and bassani rr and other bits and pieces done, my dealership won’t do aftermarket cams but it’s got the extended warranty. @@D-doggy77I think the SE 131 has a high lift 512 cam. Don’t take me my word for it though. I’ve been wrong before. If you’re looking to keep warranty, stay away from after market tuners and use the SE ones. They’re not great but better than stock. You’ll notice it.
That exhaust looks great on that breakout i just picked up 2023 breakout 117 looking for some exhaust myself really like the look of the freedom exhaust does the exhaust have removable baffles and if so are the baffles in or out for your video clip? Thanks in advance for any info..
