I'm a motorcycle racing enthusiast. I enjoy working on two strokes just about as much as riding them. grew up riding the desert and racing motocross in Southern California on two strokes. I'm partial to Honda and Yamaha's. I own a 2005 Honda CR500AF, 2020 Yamaha YZ450F, and a 1984 Honda CR250R I am currently restoring for the purpose to sell and start another restoration project.
I was 16 and lived those early mx years we rode everyday and that 1984 cr250 was the bike to have that year they really improved the motor to go with the ground breaking and still modern ergos of 1983..boy those 83 crs were heads and tails better than anything else..though the 1984 cr250 was prone to pistons shattering..I am sure u know this
Actually I did not know that about the pistons. I raced a 1985 which had the other one off ATAK chamber. Then a 1989. The HPP motor was the best! The 80 CR’s were pure innovation every year. Exciting times.
@@jtreminger the intake ports in the cylinder are very big which causes piston cracking/shattering if u let the top end go to long..seen it quite a few times way back when..search the 1984.. dirt bike/ motocross action issues and you can find out more on this issue..I belive it is dirt bike that coverd this issue if my memory serves me correct..the 1984crs are imo the most beautiful of the 80s crs
Hello I believe in time it will. What I can't understand . They built many bikes back then and you really don't here much about other casing rotting out. I just wonder if the problem was owner did not read the manual and if you was going to store the bike you flash the system out. And the way it look many was not flash out for storing. Any how you will have a great bike once finish. If I knew how to shoot you a picture I would of my 1984CR250R project bike it's been done this year. This is the best I can do. 🏍 . Don't no how to us the UTUBE picture Enjoyed your 📫 post
@@jtreminger Then the one you purchasewith no logo is not made with the same metals?. Back in 1984 honda made a few water cooled bike. Have not heard or seen any problems with them. Just saying if owners took the time and better care of them it would not be so hard to find these days. I seen some that have sold and keep in mind they are old but L@@k Great for its age, and others look bad. Again that's another store. People wanted to ride back then. The new 1984CR250R. not much could touch it these bikes Thanks 😊
@@johnraylangstonjohnraylang5924 Correct not the same. the one I purchased is aluminum. The original/OEM was magnesium. Magnesium doesn’t like water/coolant. It’s naturally corrosive to magnesium.
@@jtreminger yeah I found this guy makes them. He's asking unbelievable price of 560 for this cover. I guess I use the one I have until I found a good one to use. Good luck on you build.
Hello How much was all that oem parts. I know it's the best thing to do is to stay with factory parts. Yeah right now I'm doing a top end rebuild on this 1984CR250R. Just asking about the price in all your oem parts. Because just what I purchase for the top end rebuild was not cheep. All in all close to 400.00 bucks. Enjoyed your short post.
Correct, they are not cheap. Old bike OEM parts are hard to find. Patients and eBay are the only answer. The head gasket alone was around $40. The engine gasket set was around the same off eBay. Piston rings were $50. I kept the piston and honed the cylinder. The previous owner just did a top end only to find out that he cracked the cases from the piston breaking up. That’s why he was selling it. Did not tell me this but is what I found out later in disassembly. I have just over $3,000.00 in parts so far in the this complete restoration. I have more videos to post.
@@jtreminger Hello Thanks for the fast reply. Question about the right side clutch cover on the 1984 CR250R. Did you have to replace it. I know the one I'm working on has some rot in the pump area. Again it can be fix easy with the we know about using J B WELD. Just asking about that because there are a aftermarket clutch cover that is unbelievable 😳 high can't see paying 560.00 for a side cover unless you don't care about the cost or once finish you know that bike will sale for alot on money. That's the only way I could see paying that price. What gets me you seen for the pass 10 years you see no other side cover being made for the year model bike again you can buy other cr side covers sale for 50 bucks or less. But from 1984 if you want this year model you going to pay for it. Because there only one person that makes these aftermarket 1984 covers. And for the pass 10 years he made it good for him self. No doubt if 300 is the price many Cr builder can handle that price again 600 is crazy that some out there is paying that price to install on a bike that you be lucky to sale it for what you have in it. Again GOOD FOR SOME, BAD FOR MANY Thanks again for the reply.
@@johnraylangstonjohnraylang5924 ya the side cover was expensive but it had to be replaced. You will not find anything for $50. The plan was always to do a complete restoration and hang it on the wall when done or sell it for a profit.
I’m also restoring a 1984 CR250. What I did with the water pump area is where it gets corroded I powder coated it. Powder coat can take the chemicals and it will make it so it doesn’t get corroded
So update, I will be making another video soon. Lots to catch up on. And this will be up for auction when I’m done so you have a chance to own this one. Stay tuned.
Found it by doing a search. Took me to thumper talk where a gentleman stated he made these for all the 80’s Honda’s. Russellbrown13@bigpond.com His web site www.crclutchcovers.com/ I just went there and it states he is no longer selling these. Try reaching out to his email.
I bought one last year and completely restored the bike frame off resto powder coated the frame . It was a rocket but I sold It a few months ago to KAPLAN Musuem
OK so I’m new to making videos and posting them here and I was hoping that you all would make comments I didn’t realize I they were turned off. I turned them on so please post any comments and questions.
