Hey Brad! Love the footage mate. Im over in Western Australia and film weddings full time but Im gonna start shooting some surf as i just moved to Margaret river. We have a lot of slabs here so theres only ever one wave breaking at a time, i can see why jbay would be harder to film because the wave breaks for so long haha. Would love to know what focus mode you use and what your camera settings are? I have tried to find online wether people are using manual or auto focus and a general guide on camera settings for surf filming. I'm looking forward to diving in and shooting some of the waves here. You are super lucky to have a wave like jbay there, we dont have any right hand points in WA. I went to jbay in 2014 and 2017, miss that place. good times!
@@shteave hey Shteave!! 😁 thanks so much Glad you are enjoying it.. I’m super lucky to have such amazing waves here.. I’ve also done the wedding thing for 10 Years.. all I can say is have an exit plan😁 but it does pay the bills!! I’m on a Fujifilm system.. and just bought a second hand 100-400.. telephoto zoom lens.. and it’s been great..I just keep in on auto focus and that works fine at JBay because the surfers are moving toward you.. I’ve had so much fun since I started and it’s amazing meeting new people on the beach!! Would highly recommend getting into it.. it gets you out there.. I’ve also been out to Western Aus strangely enough to shoot a wedding.. (family)
@@shteave At the moment.. I shoot in 4K or 1080p at 60fps in case I want to slow down a move.. shutter speed at double the fps 120.. and then my f-stop up to 22 only because I don’t have a variable filter yet for the lens.. it’s better because you can adjust your brightness smoothly.. my lens has a click aperture, you see the clicks of light changes in the footages! Hope that helps.. it’s a ton of fun wish I had started earlier with RU-vid.. especially as a filmmaker and photographer.. ok that’s a lot to take in good luck!!
@@DownTheLine-Surf thanks man. yeah ive got a sony A7S3 with good AF so ill test it out and see how it goes. im thinking if i have my aperture up around f11 i wont need AF and it will be sharp in manual focus. i think i need to get out and test it. I never thought of using a variable ND for surfing, is that what you are getting? I was looking at polariser filters, reckon they are worth a go?
@@shteave that’s a great camera.. also apparently the top surf filmers don’t like to use a polarised filters for surfing .. maybe they prefer the reflections.. interesting.. but would be keen to see what it looks like.. I have a variable ND filter on one of my other longer lenses and I found that easy to do quick adjustments.. the cold fronts that move through here that bring the swell and the wind and clouds can move in on over very quickly.. even at JBay the top section can be in the sun and the bottom section under cloud and it changes in seconds as the wind moves the clouds.. it was by accident I stumbled on using V ND.. but it works for me.. looking forward to that first Vid.. 😎👍
@@DownTheLine-Surf I use GH5 with Panasonic zooms . Based on the Garden Route . I stopped shooting surfing years ago but I’d dig to get back into it . Thanks for your videos . Always good to see .

I was at the Bells Beach pro when Occy was winning just anything even when they had a skins competition,i seen him on a day at Bell's hit a huge shoulder on his backhand and lift himself completely vertical above the lip and cut a massive arc straight into his inside rail then a verical of the lip on his forehand,this was about a 3 to 4 metre swell not to hollow a little mushy with a lite onshore and he obliterated every wave,poetry in motion is Occy.

@DownTheLine-Surf sound is good but it doesn't suit everyone all the time. But also the music should suit the flow of the footage then most people will like it. Not too loud either. Cometary is also quite personal. Maybe not really necessary as the visuals explain it all. Perhaps just captions of the surfers names🤔

@@gurudogg123 thanks gurudogg😎 I love it too.. I do put some music to some videos.. but always leave the ocean sound in.. usually if it says *Raw Waves* in the title it means “no music” just the sound of the ocean as if you were there sitting on the beach watching! 😎🙏
North shore? Occy was in the jeep driving through burning sugarcane fields too, and (protagonist) burns his hand.... Also Gerry Lopez as the leader of the nasty bad locals :) Peak cheddar cheese.
