Don’t think I can start my ms250 like that. Maybe but the compression is crazy
@srlsolutionsself-reliancet3247
no you couldnt this easy. my dad recently gave me his 250. it''s supposedly the hardest stihl to start because of the compression. i had to slowly pull the rope a dozen times to loosen it up a little. i LOVE the 170. it's cheap and does mot of what i need and its light on my back

Yes thats real easy. 6x hard pulls, half choke couple of pulls then off choke (contrary to your own advice) another pull. You also didnt show if it run on throttle after all that. 😂

I know you did this video 4 years ago but I have to tell you, THIS WORKS BROTHER!!! FIRST TIME TRYING IT and I always had a hard time starting my Stihl MS170. As we all know 2 cycle engines always have a certain routine that works best for starting them. Generally, I trial it many times to get the correct process. Sometimes it is close to the manufacturers recommendations. About 50/50 split on that, I think. ANYWAY many THANKS for this simple but EFFECTIVE METHOD.

One of the most dangerous ways to start a chain saw is trying to start a chain saw like he did, it should be placed on the ground, I use a small piece of timber about 18 inches long, put one end of the timber inside the handgrip and I put a boot on the other end for stability. This is essential if using a chainsaw especially a big c c saw. Safety first.

its not a safety video.... The world is not a better place because of all the warning labels and kens and karens.... grownup adults can figure it out. I will start a saw the way i want and post it on my youtube channel. getting tired of the safety police. move along

This is the worst “instructional” video on the use of a chainsaw I have ever seen. You make a joke of not bothering to wear ANY safety clothing, and then you “don’t have time” to adhere to the correct and safest means of starting a chainsaw. Instead, you brag about how easy it is to drop start it - the number one WORST way to start a chainsaw. You should be ashamed of yourself. You know nothing about these machines, and how dangerous they really are. Please delete this video before someone gets hurt by following your shocking advice. You’re welcome, and have a nice day.

Not a stihl chainsaw but this guide is good for any chainsaw. We have a villager chainsaw that is still going strong after five years of regular cutting, the key is maintainence. My dad sad that his mechanic that has fixed it five years prior for like 4th time it needed a new piston or a carb. But he said it to him that every chainsaw no matter the brand must be turned on at least once or twice a month to work for a minute and two. My dad has practiced this since that day. And it never gave up. Starts up every time, and can cut 5 m3 of wood If you want. The problem is that benzine or petrol eats up the carburettor filter and membrane and if its sitting to much it goes bad and you need a new carb. He also explained me this method over the phone in half a minute when I over flooded it. I understood it right away. After that I had no problems starting it or any other carb machine since they all are similar. But yeah just turn it on once a month and keep the blade sharp and its enough. Its a proper way to maintain them.

Yeah, that doesn't work for me. I used this brand new chainsaw 2 months ago used it now I need to use it again. Won't start. I have a M170. I am going to sell it. Useless if I can't get it to start, wastes my day away.

Change the magneto and these Stihl saws will start on the first pull every time. Very easy task and the magneto costs $12 from Amazon. The factory magneto doesn't have a hot spark under compression and that's why they start hard.

Just buy a Husqvarna and get it started in 3 pulls or less every time usually 2. Oh and they have more torque in the high end and cost less for the equivalent saw as well as being cheaper to buy parts for /work on.

Cool and very straightforward, informative video - thanks! I had to learn this all THE HARD WAY back 20 years ago with my first 260! 😂🤣 But since my 2022 bypass surgery, I'm now dealing with the ELECTRIC Stihls. They're much easier to start and run, but they don't have the power of my old 290. Going to be starting THAT baby up shortly, though, to take down a big maple for firewood and logs for shiitake mushroom cultivation - and will be sure to remember your guidelines. I'm sure they'll save me a LOT of frustration. I haven't started a gas saw since 2021.

@@srlsolutionsself-reliancet3247 ...... Sorry to hear your 290 was stolen. THAT is truly a "crime against humanity!" We had a nephew with a 390 with a 24" bar, who had IT stolen out of the back of his pickup (DUH!). Tried to tell him he was being WAY TOO trusting - but he worked in the woods for 20 years and "everybody does it." He now drives a truck making deliveries..........

What to do when the cylinder of a stihl 172 chainsaw is flooded / won't start? How do you do this on the 172, since its switch is spring-loaded and doesn't lock in the off position?
@EducatedSkeptic
@EducatedSkeptic 2 месяца назад
I don't know about dealing with the different switch settings (our smallest Stihl is a 260), BUT, if you flood it: let the saw just sit in the sun for a couple of hours. It should start pretty quickly after that. Ours always have.
