Striker-fired semi-auto pistols are the simplest to operate, with the caveat that you have to have ABSOLUTE trigger finger discipline and not have your finger on the trigger until you have a legitimate target in your sight. The lower trigger pull on striker fired pistols that are always cocked when loaded demands this discipline. I trained professionally with the SIG SAUER DA/SA system so that is what I am more comfortable with. My agency started out with .357 revolvers, when personally owned became an option I carried .45 ACP, later the agency went with 9 mm,, then .40 S&W. I switched from .45 ACP to 9 mm and then .40 S&W when my qualification scores improved by 5% with the smaller calibers because lower recoil allowed faster follow up shot times, and slightly better accuracy. The numbers did not lie.
