Welcome to the Scuffed Radio channel where we dive into all things technology, with a strong emphasis on having FUN! Radio is a dying art in these modern times, so I aim to raise awareness and show that there is still plenty of enjoyment to be had by goofing around, experimenting, and learning with radio technology!
Nice video. Thanks for posting. I use to climb my 95 ft tower to hang and work on antennas and often without safety equipment. I was young and dumb and wouldn't ever do that again. How is your range with your setup?
I had just moved here to TX when Hurricane Harvey hit. I drove into a parking lot thinking that the store there might be open. No dice, and you could see the lot filling up like a bathtub. The hogfest queens would do well in deep water, assuming that my hand wasn't holding them under it. Your hurricane is truly a nasty boy. A bad place to be, as of now.
I have both the xpr 7550e in uhf and the sl300 in uhf. Slowly, the sl300 is becoming my favorite for edc carry. After i set up the mdc1200 on the sl300, it's been the perfect pocket radio.
Try the MFJ 17 foot telescoping whip (or 204") many more possibilities... You can even take a long roll of shrink tubing and when you get the length just right you can heat shrink to a snug fit, then just leave the top part free for tuning now and then. Since this is already gonna hit everything you have more control over the length. And yes, if your a hammy as well you can adjust for different bands
Hello i buy some one like this from ebay but i don't know where to wire ignition sense line i mean the display doesn't came up and i can't power it i know i need to install ignition sense line to + but where The one i have has 9pins molex plug.....can you help me with it
Hi! You may download the tk790 service manual online which contains the pinout of the 9 Pin connector on the back. The IGN pin (Pin 1) on the 9pin connector is ignition sense. Connect it to a 12v source, with Pin 1 being connected to the positive side and ground being supplied through the radio's power cable.
I have certainly seen a lack of safety awareness amongst radio amateurs. Last year I watched three radio amateurs putting up antennas during a thunderstorm. When I asked one of them what was their lightning safety protocol, he replied, "When we see lightning, we go inside." We have a human fault in thinking that because we have gotten away with a risky behavior before, that it is no longer a risky behavior.
Yeah....Scarface. "Fly pellican. Watch that guy, he's going to stick out his tongue at that girl. Why don't you get yourself one of those first class tickets..to the reserrection? So long Mel..have a good trip". I bet that radio activity would get you kicked off SARNet. You could get charged with a federal offense. If convicted you would loose your right to vote, carry a gun, drive a senior citizens bus and purchase a lottery ticket. Not to mention get a tattoo or prostate exam.
Did this same thing two months ago on Waterrock Knob and Mt. Pisgah next door in North Carolina. Did SSB, Fusion, Dstar and FM simplex off the mountain. De W4PGX
Our club did a contest in Awyhee county, Idaho, at 7950ft elevation. I think you are at 2200ft elevation. We reached almost 300 miles with 50W on 2 meters, and 180 miles on an HT using 5 watts. We had a similar experience with 2 repeaters. Mountains are fun for Ham radio!
You and a few other decent guys were respectful and enjoyed yourselves. Another dumbshit with the FCC nonsense wasn't cool. The FCC isn't going to blow a sticky wad over nothing. That's tard hall-monitor nonsense. Good work!
Dude, you would have loved it before people started putting tones on the repeaters. I would drive up most any mountain over 3,000 feet in New England and key up several repeaters using an HT with a 1/4 wave antenna on my car. The sound reminds me of tuning up an electric guitar.
And that IS a great "Geet down antenna"🤣🤣, for a mobile on the 10 or 11 meter band. de KD8EFQ/CB Band, no shame where I came from!/73 Great video with great view.
I have not tried it but I believe it works the exact same way. The only difference between the E and the A are firmware as far as I know. The tone board should fit and work on either one.
