I agree with your overall sentiment. This used to be my favorite, but the London levels (except Aldwych) ruin it for me. I'm also not fond of the RX-Tech Mines due to the long diving section. I utterly despise the temperature meter, because it drains way too fast and will almost certainly ruin a No Medpack run. I'm pretty sure the mosquitoes are also finite in the PS version, it just takes ages to kill them all.. They _are_ the most annoying enemy in the game, yes. The South Pacific levels are my favorite. I love Madubu Gorge, despite the awkward kayak controls. It just ahs an amazing atmosphere, with all the rapids.- I didn't know the T-Rex dies on its own if you let it live long enough. I wonder what triggers that. I always just used the MP-5 to kill it. Of the first three games, this is my second favorite, after TRII.
Nice to see this game again, although I don’t think I enjoyed it much at the time. I must have had internet by then because there’s no way I was figuring out loads of this game without a guide, and I did not buy the guide for this like 2&3. I liked the look and vibe of the game, but those little glitches like the game not allowing you into a door or attaching the nitro to the bike were maddening and would make me think I wasn’t doing the right thing thus causing me to run around the level for another hour looking for nothing. Huge wastes of time. I would like to try it again to see how I like it 25 years later. Hopefully a remaster happens. If they did another trilogy it would be great to have TLR, Chronicles, and a fixed AoD the way the designers intended. Maybe they could even make Chronicles not seem like filler scraps cobbled together to make a buck.
I was hoping that you will do a review for jak and Dexter after binging through your TR-Vids. Jak and Dexter and TR were my childhood games. Cool videos man!
How did you not mention the giant eerie white room in Temple of the Cat, with music that makes you feel like you've entered a gaping hole in the fabric of reality
Fourth Jungle Level shortest path - just follow the plants. The more green or plant growth there is, THAT'S the way to turn. Gets you through really fast.
There's not that many issues I have with the game. Maybe three. One would be how you pretty much NEED some sort of guide as some levels (such as basically all the London levels) are virtually impossible to figure out where to go/what to do and in what order. Second would be the huge amount of backtracking you have to do through the same places over and over (again, particularly in the London levels). And my biggest one is the fucking VEHICLES. The Kayak and the Mine Cart are especially exercises in futility. At least in TR2 you could do the levels without them if you wanted.
Personal opinion: it can’t be overstated how much T4 did for the lore of Tekken. This was the game that made me actually care about why everyone was fighting and to this day, I STILL get goosebumps during Jin’s ending when he says “Thank my mother, Jun Kazama.” then flies away with a single white feather slowly floating down. Pure cinema.
Hot dang, he returns with good ol' Jak and Daxter! While I don't like it as much as 2 or 3 it was still a super solid game that I absolutely love. Looking back on this franchise just makes me angry at Naughty Dog for abandoning their more... cartoony-inclined games. Don't get me wrong, I loved Uncharted 1-4 and TLoU, but after the stinker that was TLoU2 I could really go for some good ol' fashioned lighthearted Naughty Dog fun.
Jak & Daxter was my favourite series as a pre-teen. The first game holds up SUPER well. Although as an adult Daxter is super annoying! Thankfully he gets funnier in the sequels.
Having played the trilogy for the first time earlier this year (yeah it’s one of those things I just somehow missed out on in my childhood) - I absolutely fell in love with this series! I think the first game is my favorite but Jak 2 definitely has the best story, Jak 3 has a good mix of variety. Also played Jak X a couple weeks ago and it surprisingly had a good story as well. Loved the review (:
My brother had this game but I could never bring myself to play it because I really hate the character designs. I just think the characters look so stupid. Maybe I should finally give it a try though. I still hate how stupid the characters look but the game does look fun.
Streets of rage does not have better music than sonic put down the crack dude. Compare this to Sonic CD in 92 and it’s not even close because they use actual real orchestras singers and real instruments.
Well I was obviously referring to the Mega Drive games. Of course Sonic CD sounds better. In my review of Sonic CD I talk in great length about my love for that soundtrack. In the end it's just opinions though, no "crack" needed.
Yeah, that really looks like a fun title. Good video. The only game I played from the Jak & Daxter universe was Daxter for the PSP, one of the finest games for the handheld.
I'm of a generation that missed out on these games. Well, in my twenties I shunned platformers to play "grown up" games. I clearly missed out, though I always mistook this for Ratchet and Clank
Being a 90s kid much more used to japanese platformers, and having played the Jak trilogy recently the thing that disappoints me the most about this game is the soundtrack, which is legitimately atrocious. Trust me, if you're an enjoyer of how games like Mario Galaxy, Sonic Adventure, Klonoa 2 or Ape Escape sound like, the Jak & Daxter trilogy will sound terribly amateurish, uninspired, generic and soulless. Sometimes the background humming of those subdued repetitive bass lines is legitimately headache inducing too, after you've been playing for a couple of hours. I am also not a fan of the constant "humor" and moments of irony thrown into the cutscenes , which isn't amusing nor funny in any way _("heheh Daxter is the stupid, cynical annoying beta male yapper, and Jak is cool main character energy the whole time XDDD")._ The shtick gets predictable, tiresome and annoying real fast. It all feels like an early implementation of "Cultural Redditism" tbh Other than that, I'd say the world and the exploration is very nice, but if you're a seasoned gamer, you'll come to notice the game world of the first game (the best, in terms of setting and atmosphere) is actually very small. The platforming and jumping mechanics are super tight though, and the game is legit a joy to play, gameplay wise. I just wish it sounded better, musically wise
33:17 if you don't kill the soldier and open up the doors to the t-rex area, he goes down there and kills the t-rex. Maybe he killed it when you werent looking
Now this was a good one I had this game for ps2 alot of good memories....I preferred the mysic of 3 and also tekken force if it had thise things perfect tekken game imo although tekken 5 dr comes close...always thought tekken 2 had a better roster then 3 so playing bruce, kaz, kuni who disappeared for years after, a d baek who got replaced after his 1st game was nice
I didnt like playing 4...esp coming off tekken 3 and tag 1 way more fun to play.....in terms of story 4 had a dark story and tone but to me in a way tekken 2 pulled that off with less...tekken 2 is literally about about man conflicted between darkness and revenge.....tekken introduced the devil gene retcon which changed the story not necessarily for the best either
Looked up the full song for first time after seeing this show over a decade ago. I didn't know you posted a edited extended version man, still love your TR videos still make me laugh. Stay cool GFrom.
