It’s so cool that they’re including this expansion, along with Unfinished Business and Golden Mask, on the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered collection for February 14, 2024.
You realize that mean someone is going to get paid to make better 3d models of the highlands scottish warriors ? AND the pteranodons ? Best news of the year !
There is just no feasible way I could summon the patience to play these old Tomb Raider games nowadays, so I appreciate your reviews and seeing what I missed.
good to know there still fans out there that love the classic tomb raider games, im so excited that the first 3 games are getting remastered on pc, ps5 and the nintendo switch with all of their expansions included
So glad you did this one! It’s an excellent expansion pack indeed, secrets in this are really special. I’m happy you’ve mentioned the remasters too! I’m looking forward to playing them so much.
This was actually the only TR expansion I was able to play when I was a kid. Still had no clue what to do and spent 90% of my time in Croft Manor or performing the level skip. Glad to see you finally talk about this expansion. ❤
Loved this review! Out of all my TR years I never knew about the dolphin boost for the secret. It's fascinating how there's always something to learn about these old games. c:
Oh dang! Glad to see you're still making stuff, G. Thought you had actually stopped making stuff a number of months ago. Even better to rediscover you going through Lost Artifact. What an absolute blast of an expansion pack it was. Easily the best bits of the entire extended franchise for me. Look forward to ya covering the rest of the series my guy. Keep it up!
Glad you’re reviewing this! I know it was so hard finding a copy for a good price. But a few months ago I found a big box copy on EBay. Sealed brand new. For $60 so I had to buy it. I have it proudly displayed on my shelf. I’d love to get a plastic cover or case for it but can’t seem to find one big enough for the Big box to fit in. It’s priceless to me. Copies use to go for stupid expensive years ago. Guess some one found a pallet of them maybe idk
I remember playing this before every Tomb Raider game when I was a kid (somehow my dad got me the CD for this one instead of any other TR game lmao) and couldn't understand ANYTHING about the story but loved the levels and the freedom of movement around them
Oh man that backstory on how you got around to playing the game, I felt the frustration, that totally sucks but at least you finally got to play the game after long last haha. As for the game, it does look fun but I can't really say much since I still haven't sat down and played any of these games at this time but still enjoyed the review, nicely done :D
Great video, as usual! You explained alot of things I didnt notice and are very hardcore when it comes to the secrets! This was the first and only original TR add on I completed back in 2013. Man, even back then I had trouble finding it
The main excitement for me regarding the remaster is actually getting to play the expansions as I never had a PC growing up just the PS so it’s nice to see that many people will get their hands on them to play for the first time. Another good video! I’ve had your spyro, tomb raider and sonic videos on in the background while working today
What started off as just wanting to hear comedic commentaries on Tomb Raider is now a wonderfully weird parasocial crush on some European YT content creator.
I'll be honest. The dramatic crow music was a bit much when I played this on the remastered version. It's like "HOLY SHIT WHAT'S HAPPENING" "oh it's just a crow :)"
Will you record a video for Tomb Raider V - Chronicles as well? I have watched all your videos of the Tomb Raider series and I agree with you on the most parts of playing, keep doing it like that. Again, congratulations brother
Haha took you a while! BTW, Tomb Raider 3 specifically has bad UI scaling on PC with big monitors... but tomb3 project or whatever it's called fixes that. A fanmade patch, IIRC also working with Lost ArtEfact too.
yes once you get this port set up it's a gorgeous way to play TR3 and this expansion, i can also recommend it. It also brings back the item display once you pick one up. I don't care about the remasters so much since i still got the og CDs at home. Don't forget to also install joy2key or similar software to map keyboard keys to joypad, which essentially enables you to use any joypad.
1 is the best, 2 is the weakest I feel. So maybe 1,3,5,4,2 2 was good, just far too much combat for my liking. All of them are my childhood though so I kinda hate myself for ranking them. Il never forget the first time I played tr1
At the end of each video I show my ranking of the games I reviewed so far in a series. This is the most recent TR video. The next two videos will also be about TR again. Thanks for the sub 🙌
This is the only TR expansion that I never got to try more than some of the first level, and I am SO GLAD I'm now able to play it fully, and remastered!! It's a frigging dream come true, I've been wanting to play this for 20 years. I couldn't be happier 🥳 I just finished Sleeping with the fishes now, and man, I'm surprised that I actually didn't hate it! I dread being underwater and with those frogmen and fishes, I imagined I'd just want to get rid of that level asap but it was surprisingly enjoyable! I LOVE THIS EXPANSION still a couple more levels to go! So exciting aaaaaaa (gotta stop myself from watching the rest of this vid for now heh)
I like how Lara aims for EVERY animal, whether theyre endangered or extinct, even if they don't attack first, yet she doesn't aim at Orcas or Dolphins even with the harpoon gun equipped.
I just realized I never knew about her invincibility while she's shooting ! On my old playthrough I simply snuck close enough to her and I waited until she was charging to shoot at her without taking return fire. It's a good thing because otherwise I think I would have assumed if my shots didn't work that you would need another puzzle like in London to kill her for good.
I´m just gonna add to the Nessie thing: If the Nessie is in the cave, how can she be also outside? So I believe Willard did have his own Robo-Nessie but that one in the backgrounds is the real one
@@GFrom why ppl buying games ?? If core and eidos were good nice ppl they would stay together. Ubisoft or rockstar milk money and 2k game still selling same 2k15 with little better main menu each new year.
Excellent review again man, love your TR reviews. The Lost Artifact is the only piece of TR that i just couldn't get my hands on to play, can't wait to play it in the remaster. Just an idea for a video but would you consider doing a full level ranking video of Tomb raider 1-3? Would love to see where you put each level.
I'm happy my classic Tomb Raider games were bought in the 1990s and early 2000s. Back then, Lost Artefact, Golden Mask, and Unfinished Business were available on two-disk packages with the original games.
When I was a kid, my neighbour had a white bouy in his bedroom that he had drawn a face on and he would call it a 'boy'. It really confused me because I thought that he thought that it was a friend! XD
Finished this game today. It's rather short, but has probably best secrets in classic trilogy: green valley with highlanders and some cultic statues, kinda volcano with pterodactyls, mechanical Nessi, easter egg ancient train and sinked submarine. I kinda enjoyed whole run, only final level was dissapointment - very short, weak not needed enemies and repeated boss.
Fantastic review! I dont know what mindset the dev team was in when making this game but what an incredible way to go! It is a bit weird that you lose key items between levels, almost like completely different people made the maps then got a cliffnote like "Lara should have the artifact by now" and went oh fuck uh...uh...*puts it in the level near the start* perfect. Also finding it for the third time I like to believe it was stolen from the boss before the final fight or was a fake one with some of the same power properties.
What I love about the Lost Artifact is that the settings and their looks are based off real life locations, which is also true for the Last Revelations. This makes the game more immersive and help to enhance the lore.
Oh my god. I never finished it and have been waiting for this to "play" it with you. To experience it with you. Again greetings from Finland. Next time you visit holla at me 😏💪🏻🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮
@@GFrom We always call those to Stockholm as "ruotsinristeily" or translated a "Swede cruise". Do you have the same thing but opposite? Btw, Still salty for Eurovision 😂❤️
I still have my copy of this. I remember buying it back then and thinking it was one of those chinese fake pc games that were very common to find at stores because I played previously the first 3 on PSX and none of them started like this one. In any case, i didnt finish it until 2013 or so when I scrambled in my childhood things and found the case. I remember it came in a big box but my mom used to put those in the bin. Now, having finished it again in the remastered edition. I think The Lost Artifact is much much better than TR3.
I enjoyed them cant speak for other people though. Deathtrap Dungeon has loads of different enemies but its a bit clunky. The Indiana Jones games play pretty similar to Tomb Raider.@@GFrom
I found myself not liking Lost Artifact as much as I thought when I played it last year. I liked all the levels well enough, but didn't exactly love any of them except maybe Shakespeare Cliff as a push. I find it interesting to compare to Golden Mask which was split between the mediocre Cold War and grating Fools gold, only to go into the incredible Furnace of The Gods and the almost-as-great Kingdom. I'd probably rank it just above Golden Mask, but below Unfinished Business due to how I adored Temple of The Cat/Atlantean Stronghold, with the other two still being really good.
tbh i never played the "addtional Add on Levels". First i never really knew that they existed (it was way later that i read in a Bravo Screenfun a guide for "TR GOld" and was like "wtf i don't know that level") and getting the additinal levels was kinda impossible. THough, the levels seems to be very random. You get the hand random in a waterpool, place it into the chest of a human?? then loose it again and suddenly Sophia lee? Also the ALARM ALARM joke made the whole section of this level... well... interessting xD ("i just wanted to look around" "nooo you wanted to steal" ALARM ALARM then some random men come with a matress.... )
Why do RU-vidrs keep ranking Last Revelation so low? Only game in series that I liked even more than TR2, first is too basic, 3 is too hard and expansions aren't even full games...
Because the last revelation is terribly dull, it breaks away from the classic formula by removing level selection and replay-ability & introducing an inferior menu change and hugely complex levels that resulted in a major stepdown from 1-3, there's a reason everyone regards games 1-3 as the best its because they were the quintessential TR experience. The last revelation feels like the odd child out. I haven't played it in over a decade and don't plan to anytime soon. I Could play any of the original trilogy any-day and have a great time but TLR would feel like a chore to play and thats the difference for me.
@@mac8669 the only game with level selection is TR3 unless you mean during loading a save? TLR was back to the roots, finally tomb raiding in Egypt instead of oil rigs and canoe simulator.
