I personally feel the minivan and van segment have been grossly overlooked in the EV world. This is something that is badly needed and would sell well no matter the mfr.
Apple worked for 10 years and spent untold $B on their car project to just finally give up and walk away. With all their $$$$ Im surprised they didnt simply BUY Canoo who has an excellent product but like all startups has one foot in bankruptcy. !
Chevy Blazer EV SS improved numbers announced and production starts this January. A Hiccup under 600HP and 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. Wifie is waiting on hers.
GM is starting to get some momentum. After this episode was published they announced 32k EVs sold in Q3, up 60% from last year at the same time. CEO Mary Bara claimed GM would be outselling Tesla by now, but the brand must more than 10x EV sales to compete with EV leaders. New products like the SS version of the Blazer EV will help. -Producer Tim
Thank you! I'm also loving the Cybertent. A couple questions: 1: What do you like to put in the bins? Do you like to have things that come out instantly, freeing the bin for the rest of the trip, like blankets or pads? Or do you like to put things to work out of the bins like cooking utensils? 2: When inflating the tent (not first time setup) do you just punch in 8PSI on the tent and watch it go up, or do you still baby it up by going 1 or 2 PSI, then more? 3: Other than the fridge and your power station, do you keep anything in the bed or use it for anything after the tent is inflated? I suppose you don't keep the boxes back there until its time to pack up? Thanks again!
Hello 1) clothes, packs, tools, gear, We have a folding kitchen table with zipping storage for utensils etc. Our food hours in frunk and cooler. 2) we go directly to 8psi, examining and aligning structure in real time 3)we keep bins under the tent along with anything valuable. We zupn the rain for at night for relatively good security. Thanks for watching! -Producer Tim
Thank you for your kind words. A lot has changed in the last 1.5 years since we published this review, but we remain confident that Ariya is a great choice for many EV drivers. -Producer Tim
Trump 2016-2020 . "China bad. Down with China. Put massive tariffs on Chinese cars. Ban Tik Tok". 2024 Musk supports Trump : "China great. It's an incredible country. Tik Tok is amazing. Chinese Tesla are the best. Make China great again.."
It ended on March 1, 2024. We started this show immediately to fill the void. You can see the exact InsideEVs segment in which that was addressed here: ru-vid.com5hsoOly1mtg?si=3w0kaBrSuQdt0NYd&t=3476 -Producer Tim
The Turris is a less expensive, lower end bike. We'd like you to watch the Turris review to determine which is right for you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i2dfWIp2eks.html -Producer Tim
@@MissGoElectric I watched both reviews, and the Turris is only $100 less with the current sale. I am wondering how they stack up against each other given the price
I would say it depends on the terrain you're traveling on and if the torque sensor is important to you. I prefer a torque sensor but I tend to ride on trails more so the Turris is good for that. Do you plan on riding on gravel trails a lot or pavement most of the time?
@@MissGoElectric Mainly pavement, and I am a light rider, only 100lb. I am not sure which i like better, but I think. I like torque sensor. The last thing is, is there any difference between the power or acceleration between the two? I heard the Turris was better
Japanese companies are famous for endless vapourware. This Sony/honda has been talked about for 10 years and still nothing… best to ignore all “future” models from Japanese manufacturers. Unless they build it it doesn’t exist
To be clear, the Afeela timeline has not shifted or delayed since we first reported on it back in January of 2023. -Producer Tim ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Emo3x7jKJNg.html

Interesting about Honda. Maybe they have a more comprehensive Electrification plan than their rival Toyota. But there's always Hyundai and the Chinese to contend with. If the Afeela "video game screen on wheels" comes out at < $40k and good financing it could do quite well. 'Prolly >$60k though. By the time they get some production, Tesla will likely be running over at 2.5 million a year and have a much better cost basis as well as a mature global manufacturing and supply base. Not great time to be an auto exec, lots of stress betting on the unknown. 😬
All good observations. Our original coverage of Afeela from January 2023 is in this segment: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Emo3x7jKJNg.htmlsi=287-LgBzP9wkFiQh -Producer Tim
Wow, that's a lot more info and analysis on Afeela than I've seen anywhere else lately. The info you provide makes the proposition almost make sense. But I'm afraid what they're going to need is a third partner with battery manufacturing and battery tech expertise. And yeah, it might not hurt to bring in a ringer to tune up that design.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You can get a glimpse of our initial coverage in this piece from 2023: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Emo3x7jKJNg.htmlsi=287-LgBzP9wkFiQh See the final chapter -Producer Tim
It's great to hear that the BEV school bus initiative is gaining more momentum. Replacing diesel busses with BEV would be a no brainer even if there was no such thing as climate change. Between the public health costs and the fuel costs associated with diesel, school districts and their communities will save a bundle in the long run.
There are also many benefits to the grid while the large batteries are idle. We covered that in the final chapter of episode 11. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MRCsnJgS6WM.html Thanks for commenting! -Producer Tim
Grift such as the Model Y... The best selling car on earth? Maybe grift like rescuing our stranded space station astronauts (at this very moment) because Boeing was unable to do it. I'm sure you are taking about the grift of the largest and most reliable fast charging network on our planet. I bet you mean the Cybertruck...which would never make it to production. Could be the grift of the Tesla Semi which has delivered millions of fully loaded miles so far on public roads? So much grift from Neuralink and Boring company, too. The grift of 8,000 Starlink satellites delivering high speed Internet to every square mile of planet Earth, saving countless lives in times of war and natural disaster. He has displaced over 6 million automobiles (so far) with the safest vehicles ever produced, reducing emissions in the process. Grift? Who in human history has *delivered* a higher number civilization advancing accomplishments? -Producer Tim
Tim, you should seek help for that false God complex you and others share about Musk. It's not healthy. Grift as in selling non-fuctioning solar roof tiles on a Hollywoid set, the same set they'll be using on 10/10. Grift as in selling a very dangerous autopilot and Full Self Driving function to drivers when it demands 100% of their attention 100% of the time it's on. Grift as in continuing to sell that system instead of recalling and refunding despite killing 47 people including 3 motorcyclists with it. Grift as in everything the Boring company has ever promised and failed to deliver on including simply making a dedicated track tunnel autonomous. Grift as in taking $50k+ down payments on roaster Mk 2 years ago and never being able to produce it. Grift as in, baiting an army of youtubers to pump up the virtues of Tesla online with a referral program that at one point promised the top their of those shills would recieve a free Tesla Roadster. Fred Lambert was promised 2. Grift as in stating in the first year of Autopilot development that a Tesla could drive coast to coast hands free. Grift as in telling the public that Teslas are an appreciating asset because every one of them would be used as a money making robo-taxi when you yourself aren't riding in it. Elon Musk is a liar, he's campaign funding Trump who is a clear danger to our counrty and the planet, and he's a racist and a misogynist. He's not a genius, never studied engineering, and has faked it till he made it through each of this endeavors.
The timeline we relayed waaaay back in January of 2023 has not shifted. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Emo3x7jKJNg.html (final chapter) -Producer Tim
Laycee, why do I have a feeling that the Afeela will only appeal to a small subset of the American EV market who are not enamoured with Tesla? It appears that the Japanese EV will be a niche product only, especially for Sony superfans.
Nice work on this weeks video! Always appreciated. I hope Afeela can drop a product with something (design or tech specs) that is really eye catching. If the final product is bland design or specs or both I would be worried that it won't catch on. It would just get lost in the sea of average options. I'm hopeful though! The photo type reminds me of a Lucid design. I'm also glad to hear about the additional school bus funding! Hoping to see some on the roads soon near me. My area recently got its first 2 elec trash trucks (city owned), many electric city busses with more on the way, and I've seen a big up tick in city and other local government fleet electrification. Glad to see this all happening!
We've been saying the same for years. Elon Musk and Jim Farley have also made clear that Chinese EVs would dominate if the global market was actually free. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MRCsnJgS6WM.html -Producer Tim

Thanks for the quick summary… I’d like to understand implications of the much desired native NACS connections for charging and hopefully maintaining the Kia/Hyundai’s useful V2L capabilities - any word yet?
Cybertruck offers PowerShare over NACS. It is more powerful than Hyundai Group's current offerings. There is no definite word on when and how that feature might proliferate into other products from Tesla and beyond. cleantechnica.com/2023/08/19/tesla-plans-to-adopt-bi-directional-charging-by-2025/ -Producer Tim

@@MissGoElectric thanks, having the port and having access I believe are separate. Ability vs accesses are different, they will have the ability but access is a TBD for me. Unless we assume that access will be granted in time for production support. I have a '23 Ioniq5 and trying to decide if and when I should by an adapter.
I just did a test drive of an Ariya today. It is a very nice ride. However I will put off buying on until a facelift arrives, because I want it with the Android Auto based software, which Nissan I rolling out now.
Excellent video!. I am admittedly a Sony fanboy and can't wait as more details about the joint venture with Honda emerge and the vehicle gets closer to production. Thank you for this information.

Thanks, Laycee. The electric school bus adoption has an interesting V2G element. These school buses offer a very predictable schedule and large batteries (250/kwh to 600/kwh). When plugged in and standing by, the 20+ school buses in a district represent a significant "stationary storage battery." One district fleet operator is getting paid $15/kwh by the local utility. V2G programs exist for these fleets and will continue to grow as utilities take advantage of the opportunity. The point, I suppose, is that the utility can gain battery capacity for frequency management and they don't have to expend capital for the batteries
We covered all of those benefits in detail during the final segment of Episode 11. We hope you enjoy it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MRCsnJgS6WM.html -Producer Tim

Kia's Timely so precise that i expect the NACS access, natively(manufactured on the car itself) to happen sooner. Sony Afeela something of a magnificent nature
I love the direct sales model from Afeela , but have yet to analyze its specs. Does it perform like a Toyota bz4x or a Tesla model Y? A fancy Sony infotainment system will not compensate for poor range, slow charging, and weak acceleration. Obviously, not much thought went into the brand name.
We did show the specifications on screen in this segment, but it's original coverage when they were announced was focused more on those details. It appears to be a fairly competitive product, like the other Ohio-built Honda EVs slated for 2026. Pricing will be very important. Thank you for commenting. -Producer Tim
On paper, Afeela sounds promising. But as MGE said, the styling is “Pedestrian”. I think that was a nice way to put it. It’s boring, and borderline ugly IMO. If Sony did their usual high quality job on the tech parts of the vehicle, and Honda did their usual high quality job on the build quality, they could potentially offer an EV that solves the challenges most automakers have. I.E. offering a genuinely good car with genuinely good tech. (In particular, software) But those looks? Man… those need help. Hopefully the interior will be better done.
I want my car to be boring. I also want less tech. I have a smart phone. There is no need to reproduce its abilities in the car. Less stuff to break is always a better idea.
I don't really mind the looks -- most cars these days are overstyled -- but the Afeela does look a bit like a GTA V car. It's bigger problem will probably be name recognition, though. It may be a bit of an experiment in that regard, especially given that Honda is being smart and hedging its cost base with a Honda-branded car.
110F in the direct sun is NO JOKE! We have been here a few dozen times but something about the heat this time feels more brutal. Here is some footage from a recent trip to the area: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I9ZfhR-v27g.html -Producer Tim
Afeela prototype: No yoke, please??? Has a 91 kW Li battery. Of course they'll kill some range using 21" tires on a sedan. Porque???? Has stalks, 460 HP out of the AWD platform. Seems to have a 150kW charging speed on DCFC. Bet it'll start in the low-mid $60s. Says it will be whisper quiet, which would be a first for a Honda. Good luck.
We are happy to see that the specifications sheet we shared on screen (and in our original reporting) has helped to inform your views on the product. -Producer Tim
