We all strive to shop smart so we can do the things we love. We are in Hawaii. On the big island. At a resort that thinks people are stupid. $85 for a steak! $48 for a pizza! I get that everything is shipped in. Also I understand resort prices but we are not flat out stupid. So off the grocery store we go! Everyday people store right? Wait for it. Quart of milk $6.99 12 ox coke. 2 for $5 Mince $8.99 a pound Loaf of just white bread $4.99 Local restaurants serve huge portions and are about the same price as casual dining in Dublin. Shave ice $7. Portuguese donuts $1.50 But. On the roadside or at farmers market… Caught yesterday ahi tuna $20 for about 2.5 pounds Huge mangos and papaya $1 each. Bananas 2 pounds for a dollar Misc tropical fruit about $2 a pound. The island is overrun with feral domestic type pigs, goats and sheep. Most families hunt every couple of weeks and there is no real bag limits. So they tell me their freezers are full of pork, lamb and goat. As per usual, I shop the grocery stores for souvenirs. Lol. Hawaiian salt. Cookies. Candies etc. In prospective, food has become dear everywhere, but, if you have two brain cells to rub together you can eat really well if you shop smart.
