I hope you get your RGK Octane soon :)) I have a Sopur Hybrid FF (European Quickie) it weighs 28lbs empty. It developed after 7 years of use with basically no issues a dying Caster Fork on the right hand side. I am way heavier than you and I live in South America where the streets even within a cities are abysmal. The replacement Forks are ordered and paid in Full and my new Wheelchair will be delivered before I arrive :))
Fascinating to watch this whole measurement process and the conversation involved in ordering a new chair. I saw on a screen that you were getting the Octane and went and looked at it on the website. The way the folding model folds is cool, I can see how that would fit in an overhead. or easily in a trunk. Thank you for sharing this, and your cool personality. I'm just a bit jealous. I have a custom chair but it's a big, heavy, clunky - with armrests - old school thing. I don't really use it enough to tell them I need a lightweight fancy chair. Oh well.
Had my custom fitting with the VA for my Ki Mobility Rogue and it feels so bad I switch back to my $200 Amazon special at home. I'm a little sad they got it so wrong.
Annika, I just realised a video I would love to see. Zack (JerryRigEverything) is moving their custom wheelchair factory "NotAWheelchair" to a new and bigger building, and they are getting a lot of new cool machines. The NotAWheelchair website is focused on their off-road solution, but they are also moving into regular custom wheelchairs and focus on making them more affordable (I know cost isn't much of a factor for you because of your military service, but it is of course important for many people). I would love a collab where Zack shows you around in their factory and chatting with you. Even though his channel is much bigger, I think it will be ok to reach out to him. He is a very nice guy, and his wife is a full time wheelchair user. They live in American Fork in Utah. I am not sure exactly where you live now, but a google search came up with Midvale in Utah? If that is correct, you are almost neighbours 😀. Anyway, I think you would enjoy meeting both Zack and his wife Cambry. and see the factory, and I for one would love to see the video.

Very true Annika I have a custom wheel chair made to conure my body and my height. Losing both legs. I will always have a chair. even though I can use prosthetics people don't think I need a chair. BUT Just let me tell all the NONE Amputee's a wheel chair comes In very handy at night when you need to use the bathroom or when your legs are swollen and the prosthetics don't fit well.
I'm 58 and you just changed my husband's and my life! He only wears PAJAMAS - those jogger looking ones. I'm so embarrassed but I know that others understand. But now I can have him sit down without his leg while I go check out which pants will work! I've HATED "skinny legs" faze; all I can find! But I'm going to take him to a thrift store now, knowing that he doesn't have to even attempt to try on pants until his "leg" has tried them first! 😅 Thank you so much for sharing!
At some point I’m getting my leg amputated, I’ve been watching videos for a few months and I appreciate yours and you! Thanks for helping us keep one leg up!
Wow I’m sorry you had to go through that. I have a very similar story to yours. I tried the final lawyer, but nobody would touch my case like I said it’s very similar to yours. if you ever do find a lawyer that is willing to help you please let me know who that is. Because the doctor that did this to me, I don’t want him to ever do this to anyone else. Thank you for all your videos so helpful.
I was the same, positive attitude with my amputation. Mine was only the big toe, bone infection. The doctor asked me if I wanted to lay in the hospital 3 weeks on iv antibiotics, or amputation? I told him, "chop it off" don't love the toe, I love my 14 grandchildren. I provide for them. My youngest son, 28 was killed and left behind 4 babies. What would you do? I was in the hospital 3 times, 3 different hospitals and never missed a paycheck! When things are far more important than a toe! It's just a rotting chunk of meat. Almost lost my leg I drive truck, 35 year veteran driver. Now Decide! What would anyone do? A toe? Or miss Christmas for 14 babies? Choose.
I'am amazed at your strength 22 and handling this , that Dr lady should lose her license, God knows how many people she let down . Sue for sure ,she's probably been sued before , carry on and God Bless ,Cheers
If you haven’t read “An Unquiet Mind” by Kay Redfield Jameson, I can recommend it. She’s a bi-polar (she prefers “manic/depressive) clinical psychologist and if I remember correctly, set up the 1st bi-polar clinic in the US.
In sports/activities that you did before amputation, do you find them easier or less painful post-amputation? After numerous surgical attempts to salvage my right foot/ankle, the pain isn't nearly as vicious, but my mobility still sucks. I want to hike again, play with my grandchildren again without being afraid I'm going to fall. Is amputation worth it under those circumstances?
As a male RBKA, I can't imagine doing anything to make the prosthetic look nicer. I wear jeans all the time save for playing tennis. I know people put designs on their prosthetic. Function is what matters to me. Of course being female is a whole other story!! Looks nice.
I'm a male LBKA, and I like to wear prosthetic covers with a colored socket. I think it goes with my general style. I wouldn't paint the nails, but I think the potential to make it look cool is a nice opportunity
