The age of the earth is immaterial. God said 6 days, twice. First in Genesis 1 and again in Exodus 20:11. God created man on day 6. That's Adam. The bible said Adam lived 930 years not 930 million or billion years. That locks in the age of the earth. If you listen carefully to what's going on in the world you'll realize most people want to rob God of glory. They try to do this in various ways. #1 is perverting salvation. Most people believe in works Salvation. Hugh Ross isn't saved. Nobody reads the bible on their own and becomes an enlightened believer. See also the Ethiopian eunuch. The bible says a good true produces good fruit. Eric isn't saved either. True repentance is repenting of your faith to be saved... not repenting of your sins to be saved. Salvation is a change of faith not of sinful works. Nobody is going to stand before Jesus and declare I prophesied in your name... I cast out demons in your name... I did many wonderful works like REPENTED OF MY SINS... in your name! Jesus did not tell Nicodemus... whosoever repents of their sins AND believeth on him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
Anyone who thinks pastor humor had good arguments does not know what they are talking about and have not been keeping up with the debate and reading the literature. He did a bad job representing his side. There are way better arguments for his side he did not bring up.
The problem with cessationists is that they have to make a lot of assumptions to back up their positions. Where is the scripture that says clearly says that the gifts have ceased? Dr. Brown had plenty that says that they have not. At least he acknowledged that healing’s do occur, by the will of God. I see the argument as a matter of degree, and the two views are not that far apart.
Why is there a debate with the false teacher Michael Brown? He literally slays people in the spirit, fakes the tongues, affirms most any wolf because he is one. Why not obey God and His word and separate from those that out of order, from those that teach false doctrine?
Pastor Jim Osman is clearly very forensic in his understanding and teaching of the Bible, Michael however spends too much time deflecting, and trying to confuse his opponents!
This is a silly debate. The age of the Earth and solar system is known from many sources which all concur. Different radio-active decay testing on meteorites, moon dust and very old Earth rock all show the same date ranges - c. 4.5 billion years. Multiple radio-active decay pairs give the same results. So it is not open to debate as it is a fact. You may as well debate why 2 plus 2 is 4 and not some other number. On the age of the Universe, there is still some debate and active discussion, but the Earth Age is done - move on please.
Should the Christian community really be embracing the ideas espoused by Mr. Ross? Nowhere in the Bible does it say that life existed before Adam and Eve, nor that the earth is more than a few thousands years old. Nor do we see any climate hysteria in the book. I don’t doubt Ross’ salvation, but his views are very worldly and he tries to change what the Bible actually says so that it matches what man says.
Darwin was a biologist. What did he know about electricities, electromagnetism, magnetism, consciousness, mind. Is the cell the nature of reality, of course not. There are forces, electromagnetism, magnetism, consciousness,, and mind. Today consciousness is ‘the hard problem’ for philosophy, what did Darwin know about it, zero. It has been unfortunate that biology, the cellular,, has been extrapolated to be the nature of reality. It has been posited in higher age philosophy that there are fourteen versions of the human in a universal cycle, uniquely human to a human prototype and definitely not evolved from a different species. Eventually, that mid-nineteenth century perspective will be debunked.

Dr. Brown when confronted by Jim about how does the gift of healing manifest in the church he reluctantly conceded without actually realizing it that the persons who he claimed to have the gift of healing were no different than a rather normal christian who prays for his brother's healing and has the same effectiveness. Towards the end this conversation became so hard to listen to because essentially Dr Brown didn't give any definition of the miraculous gifts and how they should work in the church but instead continuously avoided defining them and criticizing Jim for being too restrictive to ask for a definition. By this logic it would be too restrictive to give a definition of how an elder should work in a church.
Malachi 2:16. There are two interpretations one is "God hates divorce" the other version interprets it as "the man who hates and divorces his wife". Hebrew grammar allows for either and has been highly debated. However, there are many other passages that reveal that God's original intention for marriage was a life-long commitment.
..."that each day has a definite start time and stop time"...Ross Yeah, except when you dig a little deeper on Hugh's website -- because, he is not immediately upfront about this -- you'll realize soon that Ross appeals to overlapping creation days in order for what he is claiming to fit the scientific record. This was also pointed out by, Lee Faulkner, a Young Earth Creationist. This, devil-in-the-detail subterfuge, exposes Ross for the fraud that he is. Especially, when you consider that it does not really at all support, nor is it consitant with, his statement above that I quoted. His semi-surreptitious overlapping days theology is also not consistent with several other claims that Hugh has made. For instance: Ross has stated numerous times, that the Genesis author got the creative events in the exact order that science has informed us has happened and that, this is something like a one in a million chance that the author could get that right -- if this message did not come from god. He stated this like it was a real and comprehensive statistic or fact but I am convinced that he cherry-picked his information carefully, so as to lead himself and others to the precise conclusion he wanted and started off with. What Ross doesn't tell you is that his partially obscured overlapping days theology MUST necessarily be employed to be able to even come close to pulling off that redonkulous "Genesis got it right" argument. And even still, it does NOT even accomplish that -- for reasons that are too lengthy to explain here. Instead, his overlapping days theology only smoothens out maybe some of the rougher edges of his claims, but not much more than that. And to the Young-Earth-Creationists, this is the motherload of really bad biblical interpretation and theology. Your welcome, Young Earth Creationists!😏😏
Michael Brown does not seem to understand the cessationist position that allows for God’s healing miracles. I do not understand how the gift of prophecy can apply today based on scripture but that was not the focus of the debate. How sad that the continuationist view in charismatic churches has resulted in false hope, pressure or proof requirements of the indwelling Holy Spirit by tongue requirements, believing something may be “wrong”with the person seeking healing as a reason for the lack thereof, and man centered declaring things into existence. There is much scriptural support for praying without intermediaries or “anointed” followers of Jesus as he himself intercedes for us. In my humble opinion, the cessationist view is truer to scripture and is not open to the abuses seen in the other view. Regardless of which view you hold, healing is always a result of God’s sovereign will for His glory . Prayer is available to all believers without requirements.
The other issue with billions of years is it removes us from proper understanding of humans being the apple of Gods eye and what the angels were. They were created as ministering spirits for humans. I removed Gods focus of the apple of His eye to being an afterthought! The biblical narrative is God created the whole universe with us in mind not as an afterthought like billions of years evolution teaches.
Well the issue is the lost will open up to Jesus when they better understand Genesis. It’s about biblical authority if they can’t trust its authority they won’t trust any of it. So this is a valuable subject!
Some things brother Jim stated that i differ with. --He stated something about needing the use of gifts to be place and time specific in Scripture. If applied to prayer, then prayer has cessed. --He stated that gifts were only for Apostles yet Paul wrote to the church that he spoke in tongues more than you all, thus saying the church spoke in tongues. --He stated that the Apostles healed all who came to them, that claim is not supported in Scripture. * I believe gifts continue and that brother Jim puts unwarranted demands on the proof.

I've seen demons come out, I've seen deaf ears open, people that were sterile or unable to bare children, bear children, lame walk, God mend bones and many instantly..so I didn't do them not by any means but God did. I know a man that has the deepest most complete gift of knowledge known as Daniel E Ponce that God gave him revelation knowledge..faith in foreign countries to see great moves of God. Justin is a carnal christian. He is limited in his understanding of God. All the people in the Bible experienced God and His miracles while today Justin and others say we just read about it and do not experience God and His miracles.
I am also a bit agitated at how @HonestYouthPastor derailed the discussion to talk about the nature of NT vs OT prophecy. Not helpful to the discussion. One can argue that prophecy and teaching are distinguished in the NT, thus the Bible allows for women to prophecy yet not to teach, without getting into that.
I have to be honest, while @HonestYouthPastor had some good points and he did win the debate when it came to biblical truth, he was severely lacking the confidence and boldness I would expect from a person convinced of a position. I am thankful for the position of @HonestYouthPastor but his timidness is not a good representation in debate.
Is Pastor Humor an actual pastor? His ability to actually handle scripture is embarrassing. He gave many untruthful arguments and did not ground anything he argued for in the biblical text. Just personal opinions. He was cooked in this debate.
Great discussion. Both have elements of true understanding of certain Bible passages and pure fallacy in many other. I believe that both positions are extreme, billions of years age idea is as baseless and pseudo scintific as much as the idea of 24 hours creation days. Word ‘yom’ clearly represents periods of time, not necessarily 24 hours days, neither limitless periods. Considering 6000 years of written human history and expected (as stated in Revelation) extra 1000 years of God’s Kingdom under Jesus Christ when after he he will hand over power to His father and God will be all in all. This Day of rest is about 7000 years. And most probably and logically every day of creation was equal to similar period of time. Astophisic didn’t mentions very questionable and in fact primitive methodic present science uses in their interpretations of the age of the Earth, solar system, galactics, stars and moreover entire Universe. All reasoning about Great flood and vain try to link together Bible record and absurd pseudo science assumptions are baseless. Similar as quote of so call respected scholars - wrong way of argumentation - quoting of external and doubtful autoritets. But some of his observations were correct, like the death of plants and animals for example. Young one made even more absurd statements and been too emotional and factless. Think of one thought - there is no time for God! Time is your guys system of measurement! What you think is billions, may be not even moment for God. In Genesis God by Moses told small group of shepherds and farmers who the world was created. There were 6 periods, consider them days. There is no evidence neither of billions of years, nor 24 hours!

Sealed with the Holy Spirit does not mean that you've been placed in a spiritual zip lock bag, it means a seal of ownership. The references of a Christian being the Temple of the Holy Spirit were spoken to a Greek church whose temples were a series of columns and a small room at the center that actually housed the actual God. Temple attendants would sweep the outer portion clean on a daily basis. Why would Jesus have to cleanse the Temple if evil could not be found. All arguments for or against demonic habitation of a Christian are fruitless. The Bible does not speak to this subject directly. The closest thing I have found is Paul describing Jesus rising from the dead. Colossians 2:15 says, "Having disarmed (disrobed or stripped off from Himself for His own purpose) principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it." If demons can attach themselves to a victorious Christ they would have no problem inhabiting a Christian who has allowed them in.

I don’t think God wants us blaming ourselves for unanswered prayer due to lack of faith rather than His sovereign will. It also keeps the focus on us and our ability or faith capacity.
