Ah the Baofeng. I must admit it was my very first ham radio. I don’t really use them much but always recommend for a first radio. They are kinda fun to accessorize and can definitely work a repeater. I went GMRS first so I could transmit while I was working on my ham and I must say I use GMRS more then ham on uhf-vhf. Last week I used tropospheric ducting to hit my hometown GMRS repeater over 120 miles away. Using my ham-o-can and even a 10watt HT. All due to the UV5R.
I had a broken one in the Army and I told my NCO they have tritium and he laughed at me and said I was dumb. Fair enough considering we were infantry not everyone there is that smart tbf. Not to long after that all the NCO’s took the Acogs and left us joes with Aimpoints. Tritium is radioactive but it’s pretty damn harmless still the beta particles are still not good, beta particles can’t penetrate clothes. If I remember correctly it’s even used in exit signs and other products that have to stay on during a power outage
And theyre just as garbage as digital NODs because they still require active illumination. Just like the biggest reason why digital is ass. Quit being poor.
So are you running HAM or GMRS when running this kit? I feel like the amount of frequencies of ham would be better for the sake of not being concentrated into 22 gmrs channels so you’re more likely to have some privacy in your comms with your team. That being said most people say they prefer gmrs for these things.
@@Nickdefdis dang ok. I just got a lpvo and it has a spot for one to screw in but it didn’t come with one. I’ve been searching only but can’t find the screw in ones
