I love my little house in South Carolina (100% mine, no rent, no mortgage, no monthly stress), but this former kid from the suburbs will always be sad that I can't afford to retire to the Greatest City in the World. Forever in my heart, Apple. <3
This song, I had heard it before. My Dad hit a big jackpot at Harvey's in Lake Tahoe. Asked for a comped room and other stuff, anyway the room was below the club and this song woke me up at 2am roughly and I have loved it since. I do call this a cover and it is brilliant!
This is a perfect example of when you create hits early in your career in a comfort part of your mid-vocal range so you're able to continue singing it decades later without difficulty. Too many artists use their high-end vocal range in their youth and can't hit those notes as they age.
Footage from before 72. No twin towers. Even though he was writing about the possible bankruptcy of New York, the words in the song are prolific now. Watched the lights out on Broadway for over a year now
