From nowadays I gotten very addicted to Sonic 3 while playing on the DS. Second of all, I JUST love Marble Garden and the other zones The special stage was kind of hard but still worth it to finish I remember one of them Is when there's only 9 blue sphere and I got lost, I found it and made myself breathe heavily it is due to the speed, but It was the full maximum speed made me hype up

I never finished this. One of the missions late in the game was beyond my capabilities, and I was only playing the easy levels. Something this did that you don't see often anymore is set up missions differently depending on the difficulty. I remember one mission where two modes started with you providing sniper cover for another agent, and the hard mode having you start the mission by going in that agent's place.

Games were always made to make money, but more 'money oriented people' have joined the industry (especially at the top). Developers still want to make good games, but are being financed by people who only care about the bottom line. There are still great AAA games (Capcom is outdoing themselves lately) but if you want a full experience, the indie and AA scene is the way to go. Games like Crow Country, Hollow Knight, Golf Story, Balatro, Nine Sols and so many more (these are a variety from all over, there's a brand new good indie game just about every day now.) Just gotta open up your mind a bit. If you only like one kind of game and it has become 'bad' then yeah, you won't like gaming anymore.

Going through a similar experience too. Despite being so connected with online aspects, gaming feels less social than ever. People don’t come over to game and you either play online with an established friend group or sit quietly in game chat. With there being so many options, there’s no core experience to meet new people. One way I’ve found to get out of the funk is finding a co-op game, playing it with a friend and not even focus on the game, just talk and catch up.

@@hyperglance68first off, i assume you mainly played console/triple A games seeing what you mentioned in your video. I'm still in my early 20's so I like to only play games when I actually get excited for one and feel capable to see gaming as an artform, some good pc games i've played (some of which you might know already) are: portal 1 & 2 - very widely known but felt like mentioning it anyway sea of stars - recent RPG game, old styled with a modern feel, absolutely beautiful evoland 2 - RPG from almost a decade ago which keeps the mechanics fresh all the way through ori and the blind forest/will of the wisps - a linear metroidvania with stunning visuals and visual storytelling hollow knight - really fun to play, watch a mossbag video for the lore, dont engage with the community trine (especially 4 & 5) - 2D puzzle platformer with a simple story and good visuals, can be played with friends too moonlighter - dungeon crawler with a sell-your-goods mechanic and great music I think I could list a lot more but these are some of my personal favourites & they are way more affordable than the 60 dollars per game you see nowadays

You make lots of great points, like the whole preorder and DLC being part of the gaming experience, as well life being packed with responsibilities or distractions. I think the biggest part of it the interest each generation has. I was born in 1995, so gaming for me revolved around the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era where gaming was done mostly at parties and get-togethers. Most of the games I play are fighting games, where now everything is for the esports scene, which ruins the experience for me. Edit: I started gaming when PS2 was fresh, so that would be the early 2000s when I started gaming.

@@hyperglance68 From recent memory Ultrakill and Needy Streamer Overload were pretty sick but even aside from indies, we're at a point in video games where most games worth anyone's salt are readily accessible and thus I don't think its too difficult to simply just avoid new gen AAA stuff and jump into whatever you think looks cool or try genres you've never tried before.

I used gaming as a way of escaping my shitty family. Also, I have addictive tendencies. I loved getting on Xbox live and shit talking drunk. When I fixed my shit, got treatment, and moved into a situation I didn't want to run away from, games just didn't spike the dopamine anymore. If I game, a roguelike where I can do a 20 minute run is more likely than some 300 hour epic thing. Elden Ring is still dope, but it's work to turn it on. The AAA world is mostly shit.

Pretty much all of your points mirror how I've felt for some time. I often find myself forcing myself to play games for the sake of my career rather than because I have a burning desire to do so. One thing I think is important to realize, is that when people say "gaming is dead" is that they almost always are referring to the AAA space. But while the AAA game industry is now completely profit driven and (mostly) lacking the creative spark it used to have, Indie games are having a bit of a renaissance. Now is a great time to be into Indie games and honestly I can almost see them replacing AAA as what most people end up playing as AAA games are basically unsustainable at this point. I can understand not feeling the same pull to games that we had in youth, as you said life gets in the way, but I would push back against those that say that games arent fun anymore (not that you said that). Its different now, but in many ways gaming is only getting better, you just gotta know where to look.

I can relate to some of your points. For me personally I have realized that I am no longer the marketable audience for the direction that the gaming industry has gone. I have spent a good chunk of change on games over the last handful of years that are held in high regard by a large majority of people playing them, and more often than not I end up not liking them at all. One big issue I have commonly noticed is a lot of devs/pubs are so afraid of not maximizing their profits, they will just follow trends that they have already seen be profitable elsewhere, as opposed to creating something new, unique, or memorable. They will dumb their game down soooo much to make it marketable to a wider audience, but it only ends up dampening the experience for the user and does not allow you to discover or achieve anything on your own. They implement answer-key dialogue for every puzzle room, making the existence of puzzles absolutely pointless as you have zero opportunity to try and figure it out for yourself. Sony is a good example of a company that HAS to do this with almost every single one of their games. They are basically "meh" movies that you get to kind of interact with. Just follow the prompts, wait for the forced cinematics to finish so you can hold forward for another 5-10 seconds, prompts, cinematics, answer to the puzzle, etc. Oh so fun. I think I might just sit on my hands until the next Fromsoft title gets released so I quit wasting so much money on RUBBISH! Anyway, sorry for the lengthy response, but this has been annoying quite a bit as of late. Cheers!

All my friends have the same complaints and I keep saying to them: stop buying AAA, money grabbing, core content as DLC, chore-fest games and expecting fun. I was falling out of love with gaming in my mid 20s, but I'm in my mid 30's now, my life is full of responsibilities and I am having as much fun now as I did when I was a kid, young me would be so proud of the adult I am today. Indie games, retro games and Nintendo games are where it's at. Mario Kart with the family, Hollow Knight or Hades on the Steam deck, or my old Ps1 favorites. Who gives a flying flip about realistic graphics, Im playing a game here! I want fun! How much fun is this gonna be is the only question I ask myself now when buying games. For the price of one AAA game you can buy 8 indie games on a steam sale and spend an entire year having a blast.

@@hyperglance68 yeah I think as a generalisation that is fair. ME2 is terrific though. The pacing is much better, and while not nearly as narratively complex or interesting as the first game, it does a great job of putting a rocket up your butt and making you feel the urgency. The combat was a step forward and brilliantly fun. As a trio, they almost exceed the sum of their parts, assuming you’re willing to squint a little at the ending. BG3, otoh, is the exception that proves the rule (in the bread proving sense of prove). BG3 isn’t just a terrific game, it’s a love letter to the RPG genre and quite frankly the most staggeringly brilliant game in at least a decade. How does anyone get close? Perhaps in the RPG genre - and not counting the new wave of frustration porn Elden Rings, et al - we only get a truly defining one every decade or so. Caveat - I don’t really JRPG so YMMV
