We all probably wonder if any of us had a nightmarish childhood or just had it bad due to bad people in our lives and we watched this show growing up wishing we were part of this family or part of a family like the Brady Bunch.
I remember hearing about this show on The Amanda Show on Nickelodeon where they did a parody of The Brady Bunch. It was a decade ago when I saw that and since then, I got interested and checked the show out. I love this show almost as much as I love Full House. RIP Robert Reed, Florence Henderson and Ann B. Davis.
The first season was sweet and wholesome, and the beautiful theme sung by the Peppermint Trolley reflected that. The second season theme BY FAR was the worst! The stripped-down sound of just a guitar and the voices (with Greg's frog voice standing WAY out) was creepy-horrible! After the first season, the show became silly. Gone were all of the sentimental stories and incidental music.
Before I started watching Brady Bunch on my dad's old computer, this is the first Brady Bunch video he ever showed me when he first told me about the said show.
The first Brady bunch theme song was none other than The Peppermint Trolley Company playing and singing! Definitely the best version of the song and for more of the same check out their 1968 self titled album. It’s chock full of Beach boys/left banke like melodies and vocal harmonies that are so spot on and pristine. Stunning

Season 6 would’ve probably been a mid year cancellation. I can’t imagine Robert Reed signing a new contract, so they would have done like Bewitched and had a second Mike Brady. Also, the kids were growing too old (Barry Williams was turning 20), so they probably would’ve done like My Three Sons and ushered Greg out of the house and off the show. Oliver was already in place as his replacement. If the show survived to the second half, then they would have brought in another girl, a brunette and a year younger than Oliver (like the fake Cindy on the Day By Day episode), and retired Marcia, the next season. And so on.
If Robert came back. I'd think they wouldn't do the squares or the song anymore. Maybe just the instrumental and it would have been the final season for sure.
I first heard about this song back in 2014 when it was spoofed in the “Phases Of Matter” episode of Bill Nye The Science Guy. In that episode, they spoofed this song with a kid named Johnny Atom. The main chorus lyric for this spoof was “Here’s the story, of Johnny Atom”, and it was describing his life as about Science and Chemistry.
It was always odd to me that they went back to the season 3 song when they got to season 5. I guess the kids didn't want to sing the song again, so they just picked the best sounding song from the previous 4 seasons.
This is a little weird to me because the children sound very young here when they are singing. However they are much older in their appearance here so it doesn't match as well.
