Hi! My name is Mae. I'm a stationary enthusiast and with this channel I'm exploring how I can use that interest to help me manage my ADD. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!
Thank you for sharing this Video. I m thinking about buying first set of tarot cards for journaling. Yours are very pretty. All the best for your health 🍀🙏
I am not into D&D, but what a cool idea for the Weeks! It will look so cool when you are done with it. I would be interested in seeing what it looks like. Thanks for sharing. :) P.S. good luck with your Lamy. I like writing with them with a medium nib. :)
i love my hobonichi and plan on making more planner content. I'm doing a 12 week year my goal is to reach 500 subscribers. It's probably a steep goal, but i'm gonna try!
I feel like with ADHD you have to list the normal things you do so you never fall out of the habit. Sometimes it only takes a tiny trip to suddenly be out of a routine. I also have shower listed in my daily routine list :)
I don't recall if you've shared anything re: your to-do list? (Where you do it/how you do it, etc.) I tend to overcomplicate that and it makes my system come to a screeching halt. I wonder if you just have a system or just do it. I really like your implementation of the 12 week year and use of the Weeks.
So, I have a running to do list of things that aren't time sensitive, and a daily list of mostly work tasks, that already have an expected due date. Every week, I check my running list to see if anything has become time sensitive, and if so, I put it in my schedule on my weekly spread. On top of that, I work on these tasks during my focusmate sessions sometimes, but I haven't been doing those the past few weeks😅. But generally, the point of my running list is so I don't have to look at it every day and get overwhelmed. My daily list usually only has 3 things, sometimes 4, so it keeps things simple.
I don't remember if you've mentioned ADHD or not but you're describing my time blindness and procrastination perfectly. 🙃 Having used a bullet journal (in my Weeks) and doing CBT and mindfulness, it's gotten loads better. It also helps that I have a job that inspires me and keeps me on my toes. 😁 Only found your channel recently but I love your videos! Can't wait to see more!
Thanks so much! Yeah, I have ADD. I didn't realize my time blindness was so bad until my partner started getting frustrated with me 😅. I'm glad you've found some things that work for you!
I’m struggling with getting things done and ADD, so your videos have inspired me to try this version of the 12wy. I was wondering about your comment on time, how do you think it’s different for you? I both plan as if there’s enough and no time to do stuff 😅
Sounds very familiar. Yeah, I struggle with judging how much time a certain task takes, but also just how much time I really have in a day. For example, it it's after 3, if I have to run an errand, I can feel like there's not enough time to do that because the shop closes at 6, even though I know realistically it wouldn't take me more than an hour. I can't really explain why that is, haha.
I have the same re bouts of reoccurring thoughts. I call it rumination. I have to take a hydroxyzine and sometimes that helps. Hope it gets better for you. It can be frustrating 🖤
I filmed another video this week to give myself a little bit more incentive to keep going. I've been doing this system for 3 months now, and I'm getting a little bored, even though it works! Whenever something works I want to change it up immediately... Why am I like this 😅
I enjoy your uploads so very much.❤I found you when I was getting very distracted and overwhelmed trying to create planner spreads that were not useful for my daily needs. (i.e. highly decorative) Your system introduced me to the “12 Week Year” and the way you have incorporated those concepts helps keeps me focused. Also your voice and way of speaking is quite pleasant. So it is nice to watch your uploads at the end of my day. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this with us.
You are so sweet! Thank you :). It's really interesting to upload things and see people's responses. I feel like me uploading brings me the same thing, it keeps me from getting overwhelmed with options and it helps me stay focused and consistent.
I love your videos, thank you for walking us so meticulously through how you set up your goals. You’ve actually inspired me to set goals for myself. I’ve never really had goals before, but I can really relate to how you set them. I also really enjoy your speaking voice, its tone and pace, it’s so lovely and comforting to listen to. Are you already living in Italy? I noticed you had it as your vision, but you mentioned you already live there!
Yes! I'm already in Italy, but I kept it in my vision because to me, it's not so much being physically present in the country, but really mastering the language and cultural aspects, building a community etc. that living somewhere is really about. So until I feel like a local, it's something I want to keep actively working on :).
I love it… thank you! It’s very inspiring to see how you really focus everything on supporting your vision. It’s exactly the key I needed. I would love to hear about how you set up your goals. I think you have a very clear and refreshing and low-key way of approaching things, and would love to hear more from you!
I’m very curious about the process you used to define your vision. Could you please speak about that and any books, systems or reference materials you use? Thanks!!
Thank you for your question! I will try to go into it a bit more in my next video. My system, including the vision, is mostly inspired by the book The 12 Week Year, by Brian Moran and Michael Lennington.
I really liked your video! I can't tell what the planner or notebook is that you're moving around on top of the Hobonichi Weeks. Is it a second Hobonchi Weeks, or part of one? Thank you!
I'm glad you liked the video! It's a small notebook that you can buy as an addition to the Hobonichi Weeks. It comes in a set of three and has the same paper. I use it for notes and daily to do lists. I'm not sure if I can link something in a comment, but it's called 'Hobonichi Memo Pad Set for Weeks' on the website. www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2023/pc/detail_toolstoys/tt_memo_w/
I just ordered a Spring weeks for the cover and have been looking for a way to implement a 12 week year. I'm going to try to adapt this in my new weeks; thanks for sharing!
I'm really enjoying your videos. I'm working on some of the same kinds of goals, and yours is one of the few channels using the Hobonichi weeks in a way I can relate to. Thanks for sharing your methods and progress with us!
Hey, you mean the ink on the Dashboard? It's called autumn forest, by Dominant Industry. I got it from Jetpens. It does have some pearlescent powder in it, which clogged my pen once, but haven't had any trouble since :).
I feel a little bad recommending my pen, because I got it at as a Christmas gift, so it might be really pricey, I don't know! It's an Esterbrook Needlepoint fountain pen. I think my partner just e-mailed them and asked them where to get it, he said it was quite hard to find in an online store. I do really love it :).
Your voice is so calming! I love these plan with me videos of yours. It feels like body-doubling almost, and the way you speak is nice to listen to while I also plan :)
I'm still trying to figure that out. Currently I use a black erasable gel pen from legami, but I do have a fountain pen as well, I just haven't found the right ink yet for this paper.
I love this so much.... One comment on tracking books you read, from personal experience, journaling about the ideas in those books might blow open doors and lead to the kind of creative self-actualization that will allow you to achieve your vision. I always make room for writing about reading for the ideas, and it has been so useful throughout my life, and so this year I've backed off my "quantity of books read" goals and am focusing more on journaling what I learn from them (which has the added benefit of depending on the context of where you are at any one moment in time of your lovely life timeline). As a side note, I went to middle and high school in Rome, Italy, so I LOVE your vision, but more than that, I love the clarity of your dashboard and how you use it to focus your decisions. So happy to meet you and subscribe :).
What a great way to take reading into your journaling. I'm not at all opposed to that, I sometimes copy quotes and such into my journal. What I meant was more that I don't want tracking my reading to be part of my planner routine, because it might put me off it when it becomes too much work. How wonderful that you went to school in Rome! I moved to Italy a year ago, and I find the people so welcoming and patient. It's really great.
Excellent, Mae! Thank you! When you talked about procrastinating carrying out a particular task, and how you'll start to build a resistance to completing the task......that's exactly what I do. And the longer I procrastinate, the stronger the resistance becomes. Your approach to these kinds of issues is gentle, and no-nonsense. I'm so happy I found your channel. By the way, you sound European. German, maybe?
Wow! You've got a great ear! I'm Dutch :). I'm all too familiar with the procrastination and how it builds. That's why I'm trying this new method, just trying to figure it out myself. I hope you've been well!
@@thelostteacup I've had some depression, lately. Trying to deal with it as best I can. Thank you for asking. My mother was German and I was born in Germany (a long time ago). Anyway, You're so dedicated to overcoming your issues, it's a huge help to me to see your practical and gentle approach. Take care.
This is absolutely wonderful and refreshing! Thank you sooooo much for sharing! This has been so helpful for me! I’ve gotten so lost recently in the planner rabbit hole. I have a chronic illness and I need my planner to be able to track my health issues with that. So at the moment I now have multiple planners and have incorporated my artistic & creative side to them which has become overwhelming. My goals & vision no longer are what I’m focusing on. Thank you for your insight and refreshing take on planning. I’m looking forward to seeing your other videos. And if you want to share your goal process please do 😊💗
Hi Eleanor, what a great idea for a video! I was planning on rewriting my dashboard a bit neater anyway, so that would be a perfect time to film a video :). Thank you for your suggestion.
Thank you for this video! It’s great to see a more straightforward setup that is practical and attainable for those of us who don’t want to spend 8 hours setting up weekly spreads. I have fallen off the bujo wagon multiple times because I just didn’t have the energy, time, or patience to make a weekly spread every time I needed to schedule things I needed to do.
I had exactly the same issue with bullet journaling! I set up a weekly spread maybe twice when I just started and after that it devolved into long daily to-do lists that made me despair every time I looked at them. Having the spreads already set up has helped me a lot.
Fantastic job, great information to keep it simple and stay focused. I am going to try to follow some of your suggestions on my planner and see if it helps me stay on track. Thank you
Good morning, May. Happy New Year! A few questions: Are the goals you set on the right side meant to be done every day? What is the difference between the set of goals in the top section versus the bottom section? And, how do you figure out you success percentage? I'm interested in you planning methods, especially since I'm trying to deal with major depression. I'm retired, so there are no real demands on my time. I had been scheduling tasks on the left side of my weeks. There usually would be 4-5 tasks I set for myself. Half would be housekeeping, the other half would be creative or learning. But, as you pointed out, when I couldn't check something off, it would make me feel bad. Maybe your system would be better for me. Any clarification would be helpful. Thanks for your content.
Hi Frances. Happy New Year to you too! I'm sorry to hear that you are having to deal with depression. As for your question, yes, the goals above the line are daily goals and below the line are weekly. For the weekly goals I use a dash to mark if I've worked on that goal and a checkmark to mark it as completed. Then to calculate percentage I count all the spots for the daily goals, so 6 spots per goal since I don't track on Sunday, plus one spot for each weekly goal (or more if you want to do something multiple times a week, like vacuum twice for instance), and add those two totals together. That is the goal amount (x), then at the end of the week you count the checkmarks (y), and the formula for percentage is (y/x)×100. If I can give you an additional tip, try to think about the things that help you get the things done that you want to achieve and plan to do those things. For example, I found that time of day is crucial to me being productive, so my daily goal isn't 'do something productive', but 'get up before 7'. I also noticed that timing myself and building in fixed breaks helps keep me focused, so 'pomodoro method' is a daily goal, instead of 'read for 25 minutes'. I see the daily list as a way to instill the behaviors in myself that will help me create the perfect environment for me to achieve my goals. And for other habits, like doing the dishes, that just need to be done, try thinking of a habit to link it to. I attached my meditation practice to my already existing habit of sitting down with a cup of tea in the morning, and it has made it much more likely I will do it. I hope this helps, and if you want any deeper explanation, let me know :)
Thank you for sharing your wonderful Hobonichi Weeks Setup! This is what I’ve been looking for! I appreciate all your ideas that you shared with us! 🎉🎉🎉
Love, LOVE, L-O-V-E your planner and set-up! I echo another commenter when they said it’s so refreshing to see a truly functional planner without stickers and washi. I love your dashboard and running to-do list, too. Excited to watch your other videos! TYFS!!
