Thanks for the Video! This is one of my favorite places on Koh Chang to watch the sunset. You don't have to climb the stairs. On the left side there is a road for cars or scooters which lead to the top. But around 6 p.m. the navy is closing the gate.
The older that I get the deep in my appreciation is for my home state of Indiana. The Continuum between the past and the present is palpable. I liked it. This video was shot a clear beautiful winter day. The sky is absolutely gorgeous.
At least 95% of expats in LOS are hardcore alcoholics. In fact, for many expats the expense of their binge drinking is #1 when figuring a budget for living in LOS. Anger, bitterness and remorse are qualities shared by most drunks.
I called their support line on the back of the inverter and they said if you connect the battery cables directly to your car battery but if you use your cigarette lighter you'll only get 100 W and then it'll blow the fuse for your cigarette lighter on your car. If you go over that. I did some research and found out that if you use a marine battery and connect the inverter directly to the marine battery you'll get the 400 W continuous maximum power without causing damage to your car or draining down your car battery which will happen. As an experiment I bought a lawn mower battery to connect it to since it was cheaper to see what happens when I use it and what kind of devices I can hook up
Some of these guys see the younger white dudes as competition, I think. I think a lot of people go over for the currency arbitrage, as opposed to a cultural experience...and the younger ladies.
it reminded me of Ukrainians and Russians being kicked out of Sri Lanka because they were organizing "whites only" spaces. The audacity of going to another country and acting all superior than the locals. I feel foreigners in Thailand are mostly like that, the Westerners. And I noticed that Westerners in Vietnam or Cambodia are more friendly, I think it depends on the type of tourists that flock to these places
@@SavageTraveling I watched this because I"m heading down there for the eclipse and was going to camp in the Hooiser NF. The last time I was there I stayed at Maines Pond which was nice, but the parking lot was strewn with trash and broken bottles and there's a dog across the road that barked all night. This time I was looking for a better spot, perhaps along Berry Ridge(?) Road. Any advice would be helpful.
@@SavageTraveling I was hoping you might suggest a place were dispersed camping would be easier to find than others. I just need a spot and some sky. I was planning on going down early Friday morning to secure a place and then just hang for a few days.
yeah man, I've recently been through there myself; that road has been mostly cleared and some of them have been rebuilt into homestays as of december last year
My girlfriend and I just went through there in December 2023 as well and noticed that. We stayed in one that's actually in my video that wasn't completed but now is a homestay.
@@SavageTraveling Oh mad I was in Big Măng Đen Homestay at the same time roughly. we might have went past each other. Did you have the baked chicken and bamboo rice in that outdoor eatery on the right side of the main road?
So sad to see how rundown Lonely Beach has become. I know it pre COVID when it was a bustling, vibey place with many amazing hotels, restaurants, pubs, shops and massage facilities. Further along, about 5 Kms away, is Bang Bao and Klong Koi, the last village and beach on that side of the island. Beautiful places.
I’m in my 60’s, American, been in Thailand since 2017 off and on and still get “the look” sometimes but… makes me no never mind! No matter where you go, there you are… go about your business and always remember: we are all GUESTS in this fascinating country. 🙏
Just found your channel through a friend, I’m going to be moving (part time) to the other end of Khon Kaen (near the Udon Thani border) some time in the next year or so. I have only seen a handful of white men on my trips there, and always at or near KK immigration (other than around the Pullman Hotel). Luckily I haven’t dealt with the grumpy farang there as yet, but I’m sure I will at some point (hopefully I’m not one of them!)
Okie pinokie. Never fails to entertain. Hey you know what's just as fun as driving there to get freaked out?? Hiding in the woods and scaring all the other people who drive there for a thrill as well. 😂
I've been up in that tower a couple times. I have a real problem with heights, so climbing up those shaky stairs and looking out over the countryside is an adventure for me. I've ridden my bike along that road a few times to the little town of Houston, where my grandmother grew up back in the 1800s.
I'm an American and have been going to Thailand since 1999 including a stretch of living there full time for three years. When I go back now, I stay in my wife's small village in Udon Thani Province. I met an old Aussie there who thinks to this day that we are the only two farangs within a motorbike ride. Even though I'm an old codger, I still get out and make my way around the area which has resulted in me running into many farangs, some are even nice guys. My wife told me the Aussie's wife doesn't want him meeting other farangs because she's hiding a serious gambling addiction and doesn't want him finding out from other farangs. She trusts me because I'm an extremely friendly bloke, not a whinging old British/Aussie bastard who constantly drops loud f-bombs over the price of a Leo while looking down on all the brown people. By the way, I'm mainly talking about the Pattaya scene with the complainers. In the boonies I don't even look for places to drink in public. I drink at home with friends and family. ;-)
That seems to be a problem worldwide with these older white expats they see other foreigners especially black people as encroaching on their territory overseas. SMH
I've been experiencing the same thing since 2010. I think some guys come to Thailand and expect it to be like their home country and they're pissed off that it isn't and they're just grumpy. They were probably grumpy people in their own country.
Remember this. Someday you're going to be old and over the hill, too. Good chance you'll collect some idiosyncrasies along the journey too ___ like making videos on old grumpy farangi.....😅
