Well, this is now the location for my model railway videos, and my real world railway videos are going onto my other channel “train driving rail enthusiast UK videos”
There are a few others dotted here and there on a few other subjects that interest me and hopefully you find remotely entertaining
My modelling skills are mixed, and varied along with my interests Things will change as time moves forward, techniques modified, changed and tweaked
As with all things, anything said is in my opinion based on my experiences and may vary obviously, from others
Hi Ian , greetings from north wales UK . Very informative videos and well presented .curently up to video 102 ( i think ) ..I have recently started out in 0 gauge myself .small couuntry terminus with sidings ..!! Following the YOP project, did you ever get round to finishing and getting it running ? Take care , happy modelling... Ps newly suscribed ...😊
@@allancawleys.trains9917 hi, thank you for the subscription and kind words. The YOB still hasn’t been progressed as I got overwhelmed by other stuff, so is still sat in the to do shelf. I still have a MM1 models vacuum TTA to build for the internal user tank wagon that I bought right at the start of the project. I will get round to the YOB one day. There was just lots of issues with the mouldings as well as being too short and over height
@47606odin thanks for the update Ian .looking forward to your next offerings .meanwhile I will try to catch up with what's already on offer . Lots to keep us entertained. Happy modeling..
Very interesting, I wonder why you decided to have all those feed points instead of feeding between the heads of the back to back points on the left? All roads will be live all the time so if you have more than one loco on the layout they will all move at the same time. Foam idea is very good. Cheers
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited I want electrical reliability, and will only be used with one loco as a shunting puzzle. So not relying on point blades and fishplates will make it more reliable. Also, if I want to run more than one loco, I intend to make the layout where I can plug in a seperate DCC controller, and then I am already wired for that
@@peteedwards7157 it’s a fun thing, but not much in the way of usefulness due to the limit of phrases unfortunately as you’d need a lot more functions to get a conversation in
We need Apollo here in the UK. Gaugemaster (and others) have a forward/reverse switch, instead of the intuitive 'turn-to-the-left-for-train-to-the-left' / 'turn-to-the-right-for-train-to-the-right'
Hello and greetings from north wales UK...nice informative video's. I like what your doing with your new shelf layout , it's given me a few ideas about a little " N" gauge setup I may try in the future. To go with my 00 and micro 0 gauge stuff !! Eagerly awaiting video 7 and seeing progress from there on .. keep well and safe . Have subscribe to chanel for all your latest stuff . All the best . Allan
The problem I have found with these turnouts is that even if you do bond the closure and stock rails, the fishplates fitted to the 'loose heal' switch blades are not reliable. When a short wheelbase loco runs over the actual switch blades, the connection with the stock rail is lost and isn't aways compensated for by the fishplates. The loco stops. The situation is worse if you paint the sides of the rails. The fishplates are fixed to the switch blades, so I have soldered connections to the undersides of the fishplates and this fixes the problem permanently. In comparison to their OO brothers, these O gauge turnouts are rubbish and show their 1970's origins! They are long overdue an upgrade. BTW: There is no such thing as wiring for DCC. There is only wiring live frog turnouts correctly or incorrectly, irrespective of the power source.
Nice to see the Tonbridge model railway in the park. Haven’t been to see it for years. They still haven’t decided where to build the replacement for the Angel Centre yet, so let’s hope they stick to their decision. Sheffield Park on the Bluebell Railway looks a bit different now with a new museum built on that platform. Thanks for uploading this bit of film.
Well, I have Hither Green to finish off, and Parsley sidings to build first, but I am planning an N gauge layout and the possibilities of O gauge in the garden, I have to stock for the garden, and I am building up some stock for the N gauge project
It’s 1800mm long. You can make it smaller if you stick to the inglenook and dispense with the run round loop. Mine is just a bit longer than is required to I can have that little bit more playability and scenery
Brilliant video and with a small layout you can have a lot of fun ,and diffantly your recent videos have given me inspiration with my small style Inglenook shunting layout ,just purchased of e bay a bachmann ex midland 1f half cab 0-6-0 to run on it along with some of my other small locos.
Looking good , and your videos have given me inspiration to do my own Inglenook shunting layout, as I have a modern flat and not much space ,so be perfect for me , also I've been lucky in the past to have done a real life ' Inglenook' with some shunting around the loco yard at a heritage railway I've been involved with and used the class 10 ( Blackstone deisel version of the class 08) , had to move some locos like a class 33 & 73 and a class 12 and some other wagons including a ex SR Queen Mary brake van , so that I could get one of our steam locos to the coaling road , very much fun and Working out the moves.
@@ianstransporthistorystuff8175 yes and no. The railway where I am the scenery and routes is quite boring after a few years doing it. However, it pays the bills and allows me to keep playing model railways and buying stuff despite complaints from ‘er indoors lol. Well, I hope you have fun building an inglenook. Mines a bit longer than it needs to be as I want to be able to run round and play, but it all still fits on a shelf. Let me know how your build goes
@@47606odin will do and it's quite a small model, I used to work for BR back in the 1980s at Brighton and did station ticket office/ platform duties, and now I work at Gatwick as a airline check in agent now.
@@47606odin basing my railway on a small goods yard somewhere in the london north and some were between the midland and eastern regions , like the north london line , and not any given time period, so can run different locos and stock from the early grouping through to blue BR eras , as want to have this purely for fun.
That was the actual disaster lol. It must have been my fault putting it on the track, as it never fell off again, and was literally the first movement too
yes, I think there’ll be more trips to Bunnings. not so fast though lol. I thought it was funny how my old Land Rover sounded more like an F1 car in the clip
@@47606odin yes it sounded rather impressive, so was the Ferrari engine swap pricey? hehe. Sounded like one of those suped up 4x4's you see tearing around the dunes in Dubai! Must try that effect with my old patrol
haha peco points in Aus your're right (I'm down the road in Perth) they're hard to get hold of. Well another batch of stock sneaked through your house customs inspector!!! Cheeky. Its looking good, I know need to find out how to order 8 wagons!!!
I just searched mainline wagons 00, and they showed up. I guess the same could be said for any wagon and just look at the bundles. My points came from Hobbytech, although one of the lengths of flexi was bent, they were the last 3 they had so I suspect one had been mishandled on the shop floor. That one will be the one that gets cut for the shorter pieces
@@47606odin yeah hobby tech doesn't seem to hold much point stock.though great to visit LOL. Perth modelcentre some times has them. I have a small selection for the 'future project' sometimes pick up second hand ones form Maylands. nice bundle you had, mainline wagons were always really good espically for private owner coal wagons.
Thinking of the Headcode lighting, I think the decoder will be set up so that only the front box in direction of travel is lit, it should be a simple case of changing a couple of CV settings to give independent control of both sets of headlights on seperate function buttons.
I really does bug me about having to snip off pins either esu have put redundant pins on for no reason or Heljan have dropped a clanger with way one of them needs to fix the issue you shouldn’t be having to modify a £200+ decoder which essential voids the warranty. Great video are you going to be doing a weathering video?
A real shame about the headcode box lighting issue. I believe the versions with high intensity headlights fitted also have the problem of them being on the same circuit as the headcode box lighting so if the headcode box is lit the headlight is too. Really wish Heljan would get on top of these issues. Spoils otherwise decent models for me.
I modified my 33 so I could have red or white blanks illuminated, so in the future I might look to see if I can repeat it, but I have 5 more 33’s to modify at some stage……
Hi. Ireland calling! Noticed the shelf was a tad sticky going on to the prongs. A little rub with a candle will fix that, make the shelf glide on with ease. It’s that finger that hits the confirm button that’s the problem 😂 I have that problem too when looking at model trains. Liked and subscribed!
Welcome aboard 😁 the main point of stickiness was it wasn’t on straight. Once it straightened up it was easier. I’ve also adjusted the bars down. A bit of wax will definitely help in the long run 👍
The Market is Awash with Plenty of Preowned Stock at a Fraction of the Price of New, waiting to be Saved from the Grave and Ride the Rails Again. Many Business startups, are a result of a Passion for a Product, if the knowledge of that passion is removed or taken away, then it becomes Hollow and inevitably will crumble. I watch your progress with interest, liked &Scribed 👍🏻
Thank you very much. The advantage of some of the old stuff is a lot of spares are still out there and simple to do. James may demonstrated that nicely on telly. And of course it was built to be played with by kids not be a delicate model, which a lot of people seem to forget. There’s still a place for the more simple models
I use Triang-Hornby rolling stock on my Inglenook layout for similar reasons. I find the large D couplings can be made to work reliably with PECO uncoupling ramps and being metal can be tweaked if the height is a bit out of line.
Hattons closing? It's a strange one. Surprised it's not being sold as a going concern. Note their US online business is still in place?🤔🤔 Warley? I've friends who know the guys so I suspect I'll hear the SP. But the business model for many exhibitions is now failing, couple that with aging guys and gals? It's not easy being a demonstrator, layout owner nor event organiser when young, but as we age? It gets much harder. Plus SME traders are struggling to pay for a table, plus a van, plus fuel (some larger shows paid for B&B etc). Is the hobby dying? Not just yet, but the zenith was extended slightly by the PLANdemic - plus Hornby was saved by such imho. So it was a stay of execution? Only time will tell. Are we still waiting on the Thomas The Tank engine watchers to get here after they've had families, time on their hands? Remains to be seen. My dad and I have done our bit to encourage youngsters and budding engineers. Local model shops in the UK have been operating on thin margins - less than toy shops and less than the big box shifters - and sometimes onerous T&C's from bigger manufacturers. Also the business model being adopted by Hornby for TT120? If they're driving that market instead of reacting to it? Myopic! Multiplication/Multipliers via SME model shops will always be better, even with the slight offset of online direct shopping. In short I think it's all still to play for BUT it's on a knife edge and the zenith is now over after a stay of execution. One good thing, the PsyOp PLANdemic has taught some the value of hobbies and therapeutic endeavours. Looking forward to seeing your progress with the inglenook - always a charming format, I've a 7mm tuning fork layout 👍✌️💜😊
Worley is down to aging organisers and the cost of the NEC. I think it just got too big for itself. Still plenty of other shows for enthusiasts to go to
Wow! This is the only video I've seen that shows Tink at Geraldton with the original name plate put on by Richard Stuart. This is by far one of my favourite locomotives to have ever run at Castledare Miniature Railway and unfortunately I joined a couple years after it was sold so I never got a chance to drive it. How's the loco running these days and have there been any major modifications made since its time at Castledare?
