This channel is of the work we do in Southwest Iowa ....
We are a family farm - we raise corn, soybeans but also put up hay .... I am also the owner of Black Earth Excavation & Trenching, LLC. Black Earth Excavation is a full service earth moving business that specializes in trenching in farm drainage tile, terracing, demolition, property cleanup, tree removal, pond building, and any land improvement or dirt moving job you can imagine....
Follow along, as I highlight the activities of our farm, the excavation business and also share equipment information.
@user-es6jt6eb7t performance ... almost twice the swing power and tractive effort power over cat ... but that is several years old data - perhaps cat has since made changes, not sure, we haven't been in the industry much over the last 7 years.....
@@Blackearthexcavationandtiling We have a new DOOSAN DX225 2022- 400 HRS - It wont track in high gear through much terrain - it wouldnt pull the skin of a rice pudn tbh !!- ya gotta switch the damned thing down into low or pull it with the bucket. Komatsu 210 would run rings round it
@SouthernFarmingTV still here - just haven't finished or posted any videos in a long while ... kids, ful work loads, it's hard to find time for it all ... although i do need to begin posting again
My father got out of farming back in the 60 era and went in to trenching. He did very well financially. He had a cleveland he used.We lived in upstate New york. Not many were doing this work then so he got quite a few contracts. Thanks for showing.
I really like watching the rear engine track loaders. It's amazing to me that CAT only has three sizes. 53, 63, and 73. They don't look huge like the D-7's through D-11's but when you see a 973 with a heaping bucket full of dirt it is 6' thick😊
I need to get back on here! the kids have reached an age where they take a lot of time, and working more than ever - i just haven't had the time to post anything - i started several videos - but never finished editing them ... I need to make it a point to get back to posting ...
70 flat bottom is a pretty good load.... really depends what your doing and type of soil ... here in SW iowa, we do a lot of short loading - and it's nasty clay soil - so a large 4 wheel drive, with good traction ... probably more weight and traction over just horsepower.... We had a 17 yard Ashland (I-175 dolly wheel) had it on case ih steiger 400 - it was a nice match to the tractor..... in the past we tried to pull a cat 80 (flat bottom) with a 9520 deere articulated and it was near enough tractor ..... If the scraper is a direct mount that helps, the weight helps the tractor pull better ..... not sure any of this info helped - but thanks for the question, I have watched your channel, and enjoy your videos, especially the mowing
@@Blackearthexcavationandtiling have a 370 Steiger weighing 43000 and a magnum 335 at 33000 pounds. More sand. Have one area I would like to build a damn that’s clay but most I’ll be working in sandy loam leveling old fence lines and feed pens
@tedkahler9738 I think you'll be ok .. and worst case scenario you don't have to fill it all the way up .... I beleive cat offered an extended center bit for those, which made it fill a little easier - although it wouldn't cut super even ..... best of luck! And look forward to new videos sometime!
FAR superior FoV than the Large Cats, but it looks like Komatsus D85px has the best (on large dozers) Honestly, Cat's interior design (especially that LCD shit where everything's deep in menus) looks dumb. You'd think they'd look at aircraft cockpits to get ideas, as many things warrant dedicated switches. Instead? Cat treats LCD as a means to save money on gauges & switches, & has the WORST human factor Thanks for this video ... for whatever reason it's been hard to find the interiors on these half-million+ machines.
I really enjoyed watching the series of videos on this tractor. Would like to see more if you get a chance. Thank you for keeping it as original as possible.
In the process of getting a hiniker cab put on my now mine used to be late fathers 4020 after a full mechanical refurbished and repaint but she’s almost back to factory new 35 grand later
Old video I know but I appreciate your information. I should have seen it before I bought the planter haha. Can a 1770 with grey wedge box and a brown box be updated to seedstar 4? Without a new complete planter harness.
I don’t think so. I was told seedstar 3hp is the highest version you can get not from the factory. Im building a couple custom planters with deere row units for vegetable growers and information on seedtar is scarce.
@@timblack33 information is very scarce. I never found any concrete information so I abandoned trying use seedstar. I went with Graham electric drives and was very pleased overall.
I really enjoyed this video. I have a soft spot in my heart for these old tractors. I’ve repainted several 4010s and a 4020. My dad had two 4010s , a 4020 power shift, which was one of my favorite tractors. He also had a 3010 which I still have. I also painted a 4010 for a friend once. As the equipment got bigger so did our tractors. My dad ended up selling all of them except for the 3010, I wouldn’t let him sell that one lol ( I later wished we’d kept the 4020😢). Ours were all propane tractors, I would love to have a 4020 diesel, console tractor, but I really would have no use for one other than to have just to have 😂. These tractors were so easy to work on. We did all our own overhauls and everything. I am wanting to build a shop just for restoring these old tractors, for myself and others. I really liked your 3020 with the factory duals, don’t see too many of those.
As a retired grain hauler from the 80s pulling a 40ft Super Hopper behind a K100, back then the Wilson looked noting like the Tempte. It appears to me the Wilson has done a lot to make their trailers look like the Tempte.
Capacity. Jd 780 3400bu/hr max corn. Deere says it will do more, but a power stop at 3400 will have corn touching the bottom of the concave so it has to be forced out the rotor. Speed up the trough augers or make more clearance under concave. Why does Chaffer leveling need to be so difficult? Couldn’t the grain load be mechanical leveled below the concave? Concave and sieve side access. Rethresher machines have terrible access on the right side. I would like a camera looking at the sieves to see what is happening. I think fan speed and other adjustments would be much easier if I could watch what is happening. My neck hurts from looking down all day long. To name a few.
Awesome trailer.. you wouldn’t have plans of this trailer so I could make one the same would you? I’m in Australia and I would pay you $30 or so for them I’m that keen to build one the same here?
Thank you for the comment ... I don't have any plans for it ...the main beam was 4x8 - which is not heavy enough, so I laminated and bridged it to get the extra strength - that was a mistake - I should have used a 6x12 or 6x14 inch main beam ... tires are 21.5L-16.1 .. tandem rear wheels are from a vandale manure tanker ... the cradles the bales sat on are 4x4 inch box tubing - 9.5 ft length - they needed to be 10 ft long
No .. I am guessing your shifter isn't connecting ... there's an over center link inside of the shifter that drops it into reverse, my guess it's not engaging... it's a common problem with worn shifter linkage
the back lights are nice a bright on your tractor displays/screens (speed, RPM, HYD display)... mine are dim and dull. Did you, or do you know if you can remove and replace those with a new, brighter back light?
