Oh wow I didn't realize you can have more then 5 carriages in a shot gun in canada, thanks for that! So if it has a magazine , you limited to 5 plus one In chamber ? Or 5 total ? Also how do you feel about the Mossberg® 590S Optic-Ready Pump-Action Shotgun? Also , if it says 3" chamber , thar means it will fit any shell size up to 3" ? Sorry I just got my PAL license for non-restricted and restricted so I'm super excited!!
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 21 час назад
Well, the limit is still 5 for any semi auto firearm that can discharge center fire ammunition and which has a detectable magazine. So, a lump shotgun can have unlimited rounds in its magazine because the magazine is not detachable and the action is not semi auto. Or, a bolt action can have a 20 round magazine because the action is not semi auto. This is different when hunting however. When hunting you can only have 3 shells in your shotgun, two in the magazine and one in the chamber.

Things i've done with mine: Hit a soda can at 1,006 yds in just 3 shots using an "educated guess" for my DOPE on my first shot. Hit a soda can at 1,380 yards in 14 shots in a 15mph 90 degree crosswind and horrible mirage. Mirage was so damn bad i only hit the can after making a neck shot that merged with a lower head shot and i could finally see my impact and was able to lower the next shot to hit the soda can. Single impacts were not visible on the white pained silhouette because the mirage was just that bad. Last summer shot a 5 shot group at 750 yards from a mountain top across a windy valley that measured the equivalent of less than 0.5 MOA or less than 1/2". Went 2 for 7 on a competition silhouette at 1,850 yards. All "match" ammo... no hand loads. I cannot recommend this rifle highly enough. Was topped with a NF ATACR 7-35x56 with Mil-xt reticle.

So, I've inherited a firearm (CFSC this weekend!) and I'm looking to store it without making a big investment yet. I have a lockable, heavy plywood chest in a back room that I plan to store the bolt and ammunition in, then store the firearm in another room with a cable lock. Am I correct that the cable lock is extra, and would it be okay to store the firearm in the same room as the locked chest? Also, if I've removed and secured the bolt, can I display the firearm? From a practical standpoint it's been secured against misuse, but not theft, and keeping your guns out of the wrong hands is one of the primary responsibilities of a gun owner, so I'm not sure if the CFO would be happy about an unsecured firearm even if it's been disabled.

@@canadianoperator Thanks. What I'm getting is that for storage that would be combining two valid methods, but if it's "displayed" then the cable lock is mandatory and disabling it by locking up the bolt is extra. I'm not certain as to what the difference is between display and storage but I'm pretty sure I can go by common sense there. I just feel like, with our gun laws, it's always best to double check 'common sense.'

Not just hunting, I spend a lot of time with family and friends in the back country. Most are firearms owners. You just don't know what can happen out there - animal OR human caused. I don't trust bear spray 100 percent of the time. I do carry some with me, though.

I explain this to friends who say "why do you pack that shotgun, even when just camping?" (Very seldom this happens btw). You can't tell me with 100 percent certainty we won't have a predator encounter. Sure it's very very small, but not zero. If it's a chance of happening, no matter how small, I'd rather be prepared. Same reason why we always wear seatbelts. 12 gauge bear bangers are useful too! They're that first level of deterrent before spray or having to shoot to kill. Plenty of good reasons to bring a firearm in the back country let alone survival situations or hunting. Anyways, rant over. Thanks for the content, Operator 🫡😎

I’ve built a few banks over the decades. Even though there is minimal cash on site, the amount of security measures that are used, makes them so risky to break to break into, that criminals don’t even consider trying to break into them anymore. The vaults are placed on a thickened portion of the building’s concrete slab. 3’ thick with three layers of 18 M rebar that is layed out to a 6” grid. The vaults themselves are modular in design with 20” thick sections, made from concrete that is reinforced with tungsten carbide. The sections have steel frames that are welded/ bolted together. The door has glass packs that can shatter if bumped too hard, let alone drilled into. If those glass packs break, the door locks permanently. The only way in, is to use a 24” diamond hole saw and about 8 hours to cut through one of the panels. The vents of the building have special burglar bars installed and all of the walls of the building are sheathed in fire rated plywood and expanded metal. So if you are going to go above and beyond what is legally required, then anything less than what is described above, is a waste of time and resources.
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 8 дней назад
For one thing, that is an incredibly elaborate and detailed way of describing how one might break into a bank by means if literally listing the steps in which it's made, lol. Secondly, the lengths to which someone wants to go to in securing their firearms is up to them, and nobody else. And if someone wants to go above and beyond, but not to the length of building a bank, then by all means, that person should be able to do what they want as long as they're not breaking the law.

Using/owning a firearm for the purpose of self defense is not permitted by law in Canada.
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 9 дней назад
That’s not an entirely true statement. Read s.33 of the CCC. The force used to stop an attacker must be appropriate given the force applied. While we don’t have explicit laws to give us rights to use firearms for self defense, you can (and absolutely should) use a firearm in self defense if threatened with a firearm. Case law supports this as well. Like the recent case out of Timmons where a man shot one of 5 attackers breaking into his home. They were armed. The man who was shot did not survive. A second degree murder charge was filed by local police and later dismissed in court. This is not a guaranteed outcome, but shows that a judge can interpret that you have used appropriate force given the circumstances to defend yourself, which in itself is within the law according to S. 33.

I remember when this gun was first released, in 2009. People were raving about it, even though it was made from zinc alloy/ZAMAK/pot metal, the grip safety was non-functional, with dreadful internal lock, and a heavy trigger (people were reporting 8 to 9 lbs trigger pull), because it was the only game in town. The next year, 2010, GSG version came out, got working grip safety, no internal lock (but got an equally unwelcome mag disconnect), more parts that could swap with real 1911, etc. And even though the GSG was/is made from ZAMAK as well, the fit and finish was miles and miles ahead of the Chiappa. People were even happier :) Then came the Walther/Umarex/Colt 1911-22 (slide made of aluminum, frame still pot metal), and Browning 1911-22 (all aluminum, no pot metal), the selection became so plentiful, I haven't heard much about the Chiappa ever since, until this video. It’s not abnormal as the barrel should be free floated in this stock. If it’s sitting way too high though I’d double check to make sure you have the barrelled action fully seated. And that the bolt on the bottom is fully threaded all the way through. If you’re still have the issue see if there’s a part that’s too tight on the inside of the stock. Some people have had to do some light sanding or filing. But be careful not to sand or file too much as it’s supposed to be a tight fit.
