I remember when this gun was first released, in 2009. People were raving about it, even though it was made from zinc alloy/ZAMAK/pot metal, the grip safety was non-functional, with dreadful internal lock, and a heavy trigger (people were reporting 8 to 9 lbs trigger pull), because it was the only game in town. The next year, 2010, GSG version came out, got working grip safety, no internal lock (but got an equally unwelcome mag disconnect), more parts that could swap with real 1911, etc. And even though the GSG was/is made from ZAMAK as well, the fit and finish was miles and miles ahead of the Chiappa. People were even happier :) Then came the Walther/Umarex/Colt 1911-22 (slide made of aluminum, frame still pot metal), and Browning 1911-22 (all aluminum, no pot metal), the selection became so plentiful, I haven't heard much about the Chiappa ever since, until this video. Feels like 2009 again :)

And who said we couldn't build a time machine? :P

Its a soft Zinc alloy. The finish will wear quickly, so use a matt on the bench to protect the finish. Contact from the hardened steel slide lock, will cause peening on the soft slide metal. Easy to maintain and accurate at least.

Thanks for this! I just took a few shots on the table but I was very careful because I did see that there already was some wear on the front due to the slide. I appreciate you clarifying this as I wasn't able to find this info :) Also, thanks for being a sub! :D

Sorry about the focus issues folks. I travelled with my Sony a7IV and forgot to switch the focus mode back to area (it was stuck on center point). Nevertheless hope you enjoy it :)

Definitely enjoyed your review of the Chiappa 1911-22. I just recently purchased one and I am loving it. It is one of the six pistols I will be bringing to the range next week. Along with the 1911-22 I will have another 22lr, a 380, two 9mm and a 10mm. Again thanks for the video and keep shooting 👍.

"Warning before using read owner's manual." Love it. I'm assuming that's a Canadian addition, like photos of cadaver lungs on cigarette packs?

Many firearms have these warnings on them, though I am personally not a fan as I prefer as little as possible on my firearms. And I’m not sure that this is mandated by law in canada.

I honestly don’t think they’re all too special or anything, but always glad to hear when folks enjoy them. Thanks for the kind words brother :)

As usual a good technical presentation. I have always liked single action handguns; to be specific the old revolvers I inherited. I just get a sense of greater control than with them, as compared to for example, a Glock.

Thank you :) Yep, I really enjoy the older style too. Single action pistols are awesome. You just feel more connected to them, and I quite enjoy working them as opposed to just "pulling the trigger".

Nice vid. I'm thinking you have the Standard model and not the Compact. I too recently picked up the Standard and the grips are indeed wood, albeit unfinished wood. Any 1911 grips will fit btw, but I removed the grips and sprayed them with clear enamel and they came out great. Made the pistol look even that much better. And no, from my research here in the US, there are no higher capacity mags for these, yet. Hoping to get to the range soon to try it out.

isnt this not the compact model? I own the compact model and it says "compact" by 19-11 way shortter barrel. needless to say this is an awesome gun!
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator 9 месяцев назад
I don’t think so. Because the compact model doesn’t have a rail which is one of the biggest differences between the two. But definitely a really cool gun :)
@FLATFOOTED

compact model has a much shorter barrel and it says on the slide stamp "Compact" the model in ut video is the regular one @@canadianoperator

@@FLATFOOTED good to know brother thank you! In my research on their site I only saw the two models, and this one looked very similar to the compact and completely different from the other one so that’s what I went with, but perhaps I didn’t take into account other models not listed. Sorry about that :)

Yeah... I have one of these. And a Sig/GSG and a Walther. Do yourself a favor and buy the Walther instead of this. You won't regret it. Not even accurate. I have met a few guys who got these, and seems I got the good one. These are a questionable quality. Work OK if you get high-velocity ammo, otherwise they just don't. Golden bullet and CCI standard get a malfunction every 15 rounds or so. Do not recommend at all. Unless you are collecting these things, stay away.

After a lot more time with it I'd have to agree. It seems this is a common problem at Chiappa, with owners of other models complaining of quality issues too.

Bro will handgun become legal again if poil wins
@canadianoperator
@canadianoperator Год назад
That’s hard to say. He did say he would repeal bill C21. Most people think this will make handguns legal again. But bill c21 had nothing to do with the oic handgun ban, nor the “assault weapons” ban from May 2020. So, that said, it hard to tell. But he will almost definitely be a better option than Trudeau.
