I have been playing golf for over 35 years and during that time I played on scholarship for the University of Texas Arlington and subsequently competed in various professional tournaments on several tours across the United States. I also tested golf clubs for Nike when they were still manufacturing clubs.
One thing I enjoy as much as playing golf is helping other players improve their games. My instruction style is to use simple language rather than confusing technical jargon to help people implement effective adjustments to their technique that results in better mechanics for improving the player's overall game (and reducing frustration).
@fredpodorf5890 For me, it's mostly sub-conscious now, but I used to work really hard on having a movement toward the target to start my swing. I still feel like my belt buckle bumps/rotates slightly toward the target to start the swing (it's just a small move) and that really activates my core and lower body. This video might help out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bOc0LdiCSnA.html Let me know if you would like to see something different!
Absolutely, I go over spine tilt and more details on set-up in some of my other videos. For me, a good check is to stand straight up, bend at the hips until you feel a slight pull in the hamstrings, and then from there a slight bend in the knees. The spine piece takes care of itself. You will be in a good tilt for your height etc... Hope that makes sense.
Not sure what pro swings you are watching, but here is another video to watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P9yUyiDgyWc.html He is pretty good and says the same thing using a shaft extension and pencil. Notice how it gives him the feel to use his hips and body correctly through impact. I agree, it is really challenging to make that move if you are used to flipping at the ball. Seems impossible really. It really won't hit your belly if you clear properly in your swing. I can see it grazing your backside with a faster swing, but that is your backside not your belly. Cheers.
@YoungDisciple90 Great question. For pitches/chips, I always try to hit the ground the ball sits on, or ball and ground at the same time. That will give you solid contact and prevents fat/chunky shots and the thin shots. With irons, I like to say, hit the little ball then the big ball or golf ball before turf/earth. Your divot with irons starts at the ball and goes forward not before the ball which produces (fat/chunky shots). Hope that helps!
@insanegamer202 Thanks for the reply! Yes, I agree! I will get another video out and will get some down the line shots, different angles, and some shot tracer vids going so you can see the full shot. Anything else you would like to see? Thanks again. -MC
@@forbirdiegolf I’m a new golfer been studying pretty hard so like almost 3 months in and I’m shooting around 120 so for me any tips on breaking 100 would be awesome. Thanks for helping golfers all around the world get better!
Yeah, golf can get you tongue-tied for sure. But a rose by any other name...so, shetup or setup...no matter how you say it, you will get good results if you pay attention to your magic elbow!
Thank you for replying will get it a try. 62 years old distance good consistency not so good trying to get a consistent feel or motion to swing down from anyway thanks for the tips.
From the position shown halfway back, my thought process and feel is to allow the club to lead the way to the top. Everything else follows. Another way or feel would be to get to the position shown in the thumbnail and then from there feel like you are sticking your thumbs in your right ear =-), seriously. Would it help if I made a video with a driver and the hinge Keep in mind, some players are late with their hinge and others are early club setters.
@bobskaftfeld5611 Here's a video that covers the fundamentals of hitting a driver. Hope it helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F4KECG9PnJ8.html
Love your style. To the point, no frills. I’m a solid 6 hdcp. Can you add heel shots to the wish list? From dtl view everything looks stellar, then last nanosecond heel is delivered. So frustrating. If I may explain more: keeping angles, wrist structure (structure ball between arms, or even a trail wrist extension gadget for example increases problem). I’m probably not explaining well, but appreciate.
Thank you! Thanks for the description. If I am understanding correctly, sounds like you have good positions on the downswing but the clubhead is open/having trouble squaring the face at impact? Are you blocking shots to the right? If what I am saying is accurate, I have a great response to that. Let me know, thanks! I will get a video out on that.
@BM-wt4ch linking a new video here that may help with squaring the clubface at impact. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Eb9wxdor6o.html
I think the Dr. Kwon rope drill is good, however, I would like to see more rotation with the body on the way back and through. In other words, a little less steep on the way down to promote a more shallow hit.
O man, the golden question! I like to control the backswing length (how far I take the club away) and make it consistent for certain distances ie: a 10 yrd pitch to a 20 yrd pitch etc. The same concept rings true for half to 3/4 to full shots as well. Find what length of backswing produces the yardage/flight in which you are seeking. My downswing has the same amount of effort so again it all comes back to the backswing. Longer backswing -> longer shot. You could think of it as taking the club below hip height, to hip height, to above hip height (3/4 swing), to full backswing depending on the desired shot. Does that make sense?
Yes! I like to think about dropping my hands from the top of the swing into my right pocket/same as keeping your right elbow tucked in. Another thought, same result, is to try and have your right elbow rub your right side on the way through.
Hi Excellent!! 2 questions: 1- Would swinging a rope do the same? 2- What swing trigger/movement do you recommend to actually start the golf swing? THANK YOU
@fredpodorf5890 Can you clarify the first question regarding the rope? For #2 check this out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bOc0LdiCSnA.html For me, I like to have a slight hip bump to the target to start my swing. It feels natural and creates a smoother motion for my backswing. I recommend doing something like that, whatever feels natural to you.
@ST-xg3gy yes, my hips just turn (may be a little on the back swing and turn through the ball) on chips/pitches, never really creating any angles like up or down.
Well explained. I'm just now coming to terms with not swinging with arms and hands. Would another way to think about it be to think as though you're swinging with your shoulders?
@ST-xg3gy yes, I think that would be a good feel as long as you feel the club "fall" from the top. In other words, you do not want the shoulders pulling the club over the top on the way down. Shoulders turn through as the club falls/drops on the way down.
Thanks - glad you liked the video. My name is Marc Campbell and I am located in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area. At this time, I'm not affiliated with a course but I do give in-person lessons on a case-by-case basis. If you are local and interested in lessons, let me know.
Posting the video link here for the driver takeaway drill in case someone sees this comment and wants to see the tip: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ROH7wyVQvyI.html
Great advice. One tip. Go out in your yard and practice getting the feel of hitting a flop shot. Just spend 20 - 30 minutes hitting 30, 20, and 10 yard flops daily for a few weeks. Guarantee you will see improvement next time you go play.
Awesome! Just think about always having the heel of the club ahead of the toe through the shot. It gives me a good feel and you will notice that you use your body to hit the shot vs. just hands and arms. Let me know how it goes!
