I want this Channel to be about my experience in building my Overlanding Jeep Commander, the installs, gear reviews, and family fun. I Just started getting into over landing and I am by no means an expert in any kind of install or modifications. I want to share the fun in doing something for the first time, the mistakes, and the frustration of having to figure out what went wrong. Along with that comes the excitement when it goes well.
Hi Omar. Thanks for posting this and the previous video on your Jeep Commander build. I have a 2009 that I bought in order to tow a camper, but now think I want the simplicity of camping in my SUV. Yours is the only video I've seen of converting the Commander to a camper. I appreciate it! I hope you have enjoyed it. thanks Julia
Omar, I have a regular Honda Pilot. No lift kit. I am looking for a good tent to connect to it. Looks like the Trekway is awesome. My concern is it must fit tight around the tail gate area. No gaps because in Florida where I am, the mosquitoes are relentless year round. Does this SUV Tent seal completely?
I have that tent and use it with my Wrangler, but only in winter when I don't use the awning. The pole sleeves were such a pain, I installed pole clips in the tabs. It changed the shape of the tent somewhat, but is now simple to set up. If you close the tent door and keep the tailgate open, the diesel heater can heat the whole space.
Your ideal open alot of other useable options systems. Thank you !.Why not just buy a 04 inch 06,inch Black PVC or heavy poly in any length and a self prime water pump from a camper ... Power Source just plug into your connector already installed on trucks .... Cost savings in long run, no worry about air compression, no rust, light weight, You can mount on top of vehicle, on a pick up mount along underside of bed rail .....
Good point Gregory. I’ve seen those home made ones and they seem to work great. When I first started doing this, I thought pressurize water was important. But the more I do it the more I realize it’s really not and just a small luxury. I’m not a big fan of hanging it on the roof since it’s a lot of constantly moving weight. Thanks for your post brother
Always do when I camp. I'll take nails and screws out of trees that were left there too. Also pick other people's trash that they left behind as well...
The front brackets that connect to the actual roof? Or the front brackets that connect to the wind visor? If you are not talking about the wind visor… the. Yes I removed the rubber molding. The confusing part for me was which way they went. Since I had no instructions I had to call for them to tell me which side connected to the bracket and which side connected to the roof
Hello. I am hear in the UK I really like the treakway tent but cant seem to find a supplier who stock,s it either in the UK or anywhere els be great if you know anywhere I can purchase one
I’m going to email my point of contact and see if I can find out anything. Give me a couple days and I will get back to you for watching Gordon. You’ll hear from me soon.
I just got this response from my POC of offroadinggear.com That's awesome! Our SUV pop up tents will be back in 1 to 2 months. By the way, your promo code, "omazingadventure" is always active.
I’ve been in constant light rain and it did great. But I have not been in constant heavy down pouring rain. I am going to treat it with Scotchgard once a year just to make sure it stays waterproof.
Instant, it is not. I would hate to have to put it up in a storm. I think you should have practice putting it up before do the video. Didn’t make me want to go out and buy one. I think Don would be disappointed.
I had a 2006 4x4 with the hemi. It had some electrical gremlins so I got rid of it! 🙁 I just totaled my 14 Grand Cherokee and really wanting to find another Commander!
mine hasn't leaked yet. I am nervous about that though. I will say I used a lot of silicone...ALOT. but im noticing that because of the heat now, the silicone is turning brittle. Im not 100% sure if this is something I have to take off and reapply every so often. what do you have on the roof rack?
Looks like an EZ-Up pop up sun shelter with walls. Those shelters are awkward to put up without a second person. Also would like to see how waterproof it is.
I haven't been through heavy rain but it's held up through light cosistent rain so far. I am going to do further waterproofing to all my tents. and as far as being awkward,, it is on the lighter side. the fabric is the same as my other tents but the poles are much lighter.
haha! Dave let me tell you! I was literally making the video and drew a blank! I even asked my wife and she said "I dont know, a skillet?" I knew It didn't sound right but went with it anyway😄
I don't know if you come back to older videos, but I have a few questions. Has this tent done well in rainstorms? Have you had to spray the tent down with rain repellent? Have you had any situations where water leaked in? I really like how some tents have super good sealing of the window sections, but they slant the darn tent on the sides. I appreciate you're given a canopy top to cover a tent for when it rains, but the problem with that is because the windows are slanted out from under the canopy, exposing the windows anyway, kinda defeats the purpose. I really like the stand up tents. Not the arch ones. Though you get great stand up space in the center, knowing my luck, I'd smack my face into the lower parts of the tent. 🤦♀️ I like how you can use this tent two different ways. I'm thinking in terms of having a place to go number 1, if you're too far away from campground restrooms. How does this tent work with mosquitoes? Especially when the flaps are over the car? I have a RAV4, so I hope the straps can be adjusted accordingly. I like the straight up tents, but then some are designed where you have to have more than 1 person to help set up. So, I appreciate that this one doesn't. Also, does this tent have double zippers tabs at the bottom? The things you pull on to zip and unzip the tent? Outside and inside? Just trying to weigh my options. And this is a 10 person tent? Thank you for your time and patience.✨️✌️
Hi May! thanks for watching and your post! lets go down in order... I haven't been through a heavy rain storm in it but I have been through light consistent rain and it has not leaked. I haven't waterproofed it yet but I am planning to soon. I think you should waterproof every tent once a year anyway. but so far, it hasn't leaked. the mosquito situation is good. even with a rav4 you should have a great seal because the straps adjust very well. It does have double zippers that you can use on the inside and out. they work very well. Im also going to take my time and clean the zippers when I waterproof it just so they stay zipping smoothly. Lastly, it is not a 10 person tent. this tent is 10x10 so at best it could fit 4 to 5 people sleeping tightly. the website say sleeps 7 but they are including 2 being inside the vehicle. I hope this answers all your questions but if you have any more please reach out again.:)
You definitely have to do this as often as you can. At least once a year my three sons go on a hunt and now my grandsons will be going. The hunt is cool the memories far out weighs any harvest.
Does the tent leak during rainstorms? How is the airflow cross ventilation? Does the tent sweat, as in how hot does it get inside? Is this an all season tent? Tia!
Hi cyberia thanks for your post. Haven’t had it in heavy rain but it did drizzle throughout the night and it stayed dry. The ventilation seemed to be fine but I also had the windows cracked in the truck. Didn’t have it sweat or condensation. And lastly I wouldn’t say it’s a four season tent. Definitely a 3 season
