Congratulations Dr. Brakke!! Thank you so much for having brought us along this journey, as an aspiring academic it has been so inspiring and motivating to get a few glimpses of your work and the commitment that goes into it. I am a masters student in British Literature, so demystifying the ins and outs of daily life when doing research has been giving me hope for when (hopefully) it will be my turn to write my dissertation and defend it. Plus your work is so so sooo interesting, thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Congratulations, Carson! 🎓 I have only just discovered your videos, but seeing you pass your defense energises me so much to finish my own PhD journey in 2025, with an online defense as well. Thank you for sharing all this content with us! Go en enjoy Dr Life! 💕
Thank you so much for sharing your process! Those early attempts at talking through things is why I stopped trying make RU-vid videos. Lol! I could just never get past that phase. But I think this is such a smart approach and I see how useful it is. I'm going to force myself to do it next time I have to present my work. I love the idea of dictating it to Word! Great idea!
Hiiii gorgeous! Could u make a interior tour in your place, or tell me de name of the decoration u use? I am in love, everything seems to be so classic and confy
Congratulations! So well deserved, you‘re a true inspiration and motivation to push through my last half year!! Also where do you live (I mean general area, not meant to be creepy but it looks sooo beautiful!)
HAPPY CONGRATS DR.BRAKKE !!!!!!!! I am in tears for you! I am just starting my Doctorate program. I hope I make it to the end!!! Wish I had your plan and strategy for writing my Dissertation. YOU WERE ALWAYS REAL IN SHARING!! Thank you so much! yeah!!!
Congratulations!!! I am so happy to see you finally reach this point! It's been such a pleasure watching your journey, especially since I will be defending myself in a few months... you are inspiring me!
As someone from a Third World country that experienced Western Occupation in the 16th to 19th century, it made me realize how many literatures we have that highlighted hospitality but more as a reflection of our culture, not seen as something repressive. And while listening to your presentation, I somehow recall the feudalistic relationship between my people and the occupiers under the guise of hospitality. Unsure if we have any studies re dysfunctional hospitality though as I'm not an expert in anyway. Huge room to explore there for future scholarship. Congratulations to you Dr.!!
Hospitality and colonization is something I talk about a bit in my work! Though since my specialty is English literature, I’m usually reading texts that are coming from the colonizers perspective…. But there are a couple texts where either you can see Europeans manipulate the trust of hospitality to harm people, or else just refuse to recognize colonized subjects as worthy of being treated as host / guest. There’s a book, Postcolonial Hospitality by Mireille Rosello, that I think is really interesting for thinking about how the dynamics of hospitality bear out on ideas of colonial expansion / immigration
