Check the upload date please. The upload date for this video is September 2019. The Gothic Playable Teaser released in December 2019. The confirmation, that the Remake was greenlit, came in February 2020. And for good measure, Archolos came out in December 2021. At the time of making this video, the franchise has been dead for years in any official capacity.
Hey there, I'm still lurking around and I'm still considering returning but my other projects are taking up the majority of my time. The main issue, to be honest, is that I have ethical issues with Google/RU-vid as companies.
It's a nice video, but I don't like how everything was retroactively declared to be part of Xardas's masterplan from G2 on. It's dishonest by PB to pretend any of this grand scheming was thought of, when G1 was created.
Thank you for the compliment. I immediately recognized your name, your channel is basically my first go-to whenever I want to watch or learn about Gothic speedrunning. Back to the topic: Prior to the release of Gothic 2, they confirmed multiple times in interviews that they have no master-plan at all, and that they're writing the story based on whatever they need to create the world they want. Maybe some of the other members later claimed otherwise, I don't know. The OG team of PB always said that they haven't planned anything. What I remember is that PB never really acknowledged Gothic 3's lackluster writing or their general tendency for retconning. Gothic 3 is a good example. On one hand, they admitted that the entire plot is unfinished and that the writing is flawed, and at the same time, they claimed that G3's story is fundamentally the same as G2's story. They claimed the actual issue with their writing was their "deliberate" choice to thin-out the world-building and that they didn't give important characters enough dialogue to work with. And then, whenever the question of retconning comes up, they usually said something along the lines of "oh it's just because people in that world have different perspectives and opinions" to wave the criticism away, while repeating the same mistakes up until the studio's closure. :( Personally, I don't have a strong opinion in either way. I definitely would have preferred stronger writing, especially in terms of consistency. When it comes to the Xardas-Master-Plan-Retcon, I feel kinda neutral because Gothic 3 happened and basically killed any potential this plot could have had. I do prefer the G2-focused War-of-Gods plot over the Orcs-vs-Humans plot because it makes the universe appear as much deeper than it really is. I do know though that there are many that prefer the Orcs-vs-Humans plot because it's more condensed and grounded, I think.
So many years later G1 and G2 still hold their own if not they are better than almost all new RPGs. The world, story, nature Its just much better. Everything feels alive.
Just git this game and came in not even knowing this existed 😂 took me about 100m to figure things out and then started the chickens bwaking and the reloads. So far tho gotta say money well spent this game looks awesome.
I have 20 hours in Thief 2014, don't ask why, I can tell that you could only make this with more hours than I. Just that alone is a horrifying idea. At this point in time, one of the harshest insults is to call someone a Starfield fan, but I feel even that ranks above a "Hitman Absolution fan" or "Thief 2014 Fan". Immersive Sims are rarely made, and of those even fewer are 'good', but the greatest rarity is to be something so truly bad as Abosolution or Thief 2014. For those who don't grasp how bad Hitman: Absolution is, take every stealth mechanic you know, and make them increase your risk of discovery instead of decreasing it.
I've refunded games for less than the atrocious input responsiveness and jank in Elex. It's like your character is playing turn-based in an RTS game. But damn, the quests are so interesting, your choices matter, and the world exploration is amazing. I've never seen a game that so perfectly straddles the line between hot garbage and masterpiece.
For the Early Game (Up until around level 10-15), definitely Food and Sleep. There is no extensive crafting system in Gothic 1 outside of frying meat (which I highly recommend doing, increases the item's value and effects), so you don't need to concern yourself with hoarding. As far as I remember, there's only one food-related quest in Gothic 1 and there is no issue in skipping that at all. Once you feel like it takes too long to heal with Food, then go for Potions instead.
Randomly watching your Forsaken Gods playthrough and lol at the wolf rage, I hope maybe one day you'll do a playthrough of gothic 1 and 2 as we all know its been awhile i bet! 😛
Glad to hear you had fun watching it.^^ The idea of a Gothic 1 or Gothic 2 playthrough is worth considering. I'll think about it thoroughly, but I can't make any promises.
Yow, just wanted to say I got stuck entering the orc region. Can't get back up and the wolves (?) get me before I can trigger the dialogue. I jumping the way to dodge them? Really liked this info and the way you did it.

Hey, I really liked your guide, and I want to contribute to it. (I know that this is an old video, but I stumbled across it when I started playing Gothic, so I want to help! :) ) Some quests you indicated as completing, but you didn't say how, and they can help new players gain more XP early on. Recipe for Dexter - Old camp (just below where you get a dusty guy named Dexter) - I advise you to push him for the ore, but not too much. Critical point indicated in the guides where the recipe is. Sword for Whistler - Old camp (right of the marketplace where Fisk is) - buy the sword from Fisk for 110, then demand Whistler to give you 10 more ore, and then give it to him. Mushrooms for Snaf - Old camp (when you are in front of Thorus, just go left and talk to a chief) - collect the things he wants, plain and simple. Arena - Old camp - just wanted to remind you that you can't fight Gor Hanis. Nek's amulet - Outside Old camp (mentioned in the first guide, I think, where the cave is.) The amulet you can give to Sly. Lefty's water - Outside New camp, when you decide that Rice Lord gave you enough water, Lefty will stop you. Beat him up, don't kill him, then talk to him, and you'll get XP. Tip from Joru - Inside Sect camp near Melvin, you can ask him how to join, and he will give you a tip for 3 swampweeds. Go to Fortuno; he will give it to you, and then just go back. That will be all. These quests can be easily missed, and more XP in the beginning will help you later on.
It always makes me sad when I talk to any other gamers in Canada and the USA about this game. When the remake was announced I told all my friends about it and people in other games - and the response was crickets. No one had heard of it. I wish they’d done a better job of marketing it in the West. This series is just top tier ☀️
did I miss anything? Talking to lares doesnt do anything and talking to gorn doesnt give me anything. I have done everything you have showed in your guide. I`m abit confused xD
You need the list from Ian. Then you can trigger the quest. You need to accept the trial at the Old Camp and talk to Diego to give you the quest. Then head to the Old Mine to Ian (he's on the middle level) to have him give you the list. From there, you have two choices, go the Old Camp and finish the quest, or go to the New Camp for the quest continuation.
Actually in the cinematic video in the Gothic 4: Arcania game Lord Hagen is portrayed alive alongside Lee, who would both be the generals of the Paladins under the leadership of the Nameless Hero. which means somehow he escaped death and imprisonment at the hands of the orcs.
I remember seeing E3 gameplay of this and being hyped for a new 3D RPG game. In the back of my mind I still get excited thinking about that gameplay knowing the game is already out and I’ve already played it being completely dissatisfied.
Bought gothic 1 right when it came out... come back at least once every few years to complete. Absolutely amazing story and game play. Loved the combat in g1 and 2
Even back in the day, I think Gothic could've worked quite well on the original Xbox. I mean, it got Morrowind so why not Gothic? PS2 got Drakan 2 exclusively, even though Drakan 1 was a PC game. G1 didn't even have mouse support so it would've worked well with the OG Xbox gamepad. I guess Piranha simply did not have the budget for a console port.
