Esclarmonde was one of the first operas I ever saw. Joan Sutherland sang the title role. It was before the days of subtitles so, to be honest, I had no idea what the hell was going on! But it was a great spectacle and I loved. Crazy comments in this posts. Sutherland was great, and Gless is outstanding as well. Very different singers. Do you have to choose only one? Can’t we enjoy all singers’ interpretations?
Dear Luis, I am sorry to say that your list is incomplete..... If I am not mistaken, the soprano Lisa Mostin, nominated for the top German price for opera, Der Faust price for 2023, has performed this song in Frankfurt and did a magnificent job at it.... reaching the A-flat above the high C as well. Thanks for updating your list. Lisa Mostin deserves the honor of a place on your list. Her voice is also so much richer than some of the other divas you put on. Her video is on her Facebook page Lisa Mostin. Thanks.
In the day this Opera was written we have no idea if the G was the same as modern pitch. Orchestras were a different standard. Everything was of a different age.
Inspired by the unsurpassable genius and humanity of author Ivan Turgenev. The nightengales are always present singing harmonious perfection for thwarted lost lovers in the Russian countryside before emancipation of the serfs ( Gogol: souls ) in 1863 by Tsar Alexander . This lost Utopia makes me weep with longing and utter heartbreak a beautiful prosperous married women still holds my heart hostage for over thirty years I live the pain and regret of the damned that ONLY Turgenev, Tolstoy , Gogol, Dostoyevsky, Percy Shelly and Lord Byron can relate to, empathize with and understand. 👑💯🐥🌎🥲
Un air d'une extrême difficulté cet qui fait toujours un effet " choc " sur le public.La cantatrice doit avoir une technique solide car elle très exposée .
A use of the human voice which has the tendency to put non-enthusiasts off opera. Not many sopranos can sing this aria without inflicting emotional pain. I wish most of them would stop trying.
The more I listen to her talking the more I realise that the world was simply not ready for a woman being this rational while being talented and beautiful too, in those days. What this guy is asking amounts to "why don't you just choose to become and idea, a pretty ornament", it's repulsive really.
