Great video. Hey Bird Dog. Not going golfing today. But was wondering what aircraft was used for this scene? Thank you.

I really love your videos. My Father in law was a headhunter. HEAD Hunter Six Two was his call sign. He was there 1967 -68. I have pictures and 8mm video he took in Vietnam. He passed 2 years ago, but he would have loved your channel. Please keep it up.

From my own experience as a pilot in the Vietnam War, I believe one reaches a point where a "fear of death" subsides and an acceptance of death's almost certain reality is internalized. After that, one's own continuance is secondary to the accomplishment of the mission.

My dad was a serious badass flying F4 D/Es. Taught RIOs on updated AIM 7/9s versions in the Cheetah Sqn, flew under Yeager at Kunsan AFB, he filmed his own refuelings, landings, and hill hopping airstrikes on Korean DMZ while filming with a hand held 8mm camera. Anytime someone (usually teen guys) asked who was the most badass pilots or unit, he always answered it was the Bird Dog FACs in Nam. He always shared what he saw them do, and he was not shy about the fact he wouldn't be able to do what they did.

Thank you for sharing this important part of history. I don’t think that the Vietnam War was a good idea. The politicians started it and ran it, which did not work out very well. But God bless all of you that went, your strength and courage is very much appreciated. I know few that went to Vietnam. But I love all of you.

I served as a crewchief/doorgunner on Loaches at Tan An Airfield in the delta from Nov 68 to Nov 69 with HHC 3rd Brigade 9th Infantry Division. We had an Airforce (CIA ?) O-1 Birddog detachment operating out of the small airfield and often saw the Porter STOL aircraft flown by Air America (CIA) there. It was a busy little spot, lots of memories of great pilots and buddies.

wasted a LOT of $$$$$ ruining a sweet 195 BEFORE he wrecked it. should have spent a whole lot less money on a good tailwheel CFI who could have told him how important aileron inputs are on the rollout. far more important than rudder inputs which is what most so called "tailwheel" CFI'S tell you. most pilots don't have a clue what aileron inputs they are making just after touchdown and steer like they would their car which is backwards in an airplane on the ground. ailerons will overpower the rudder every time and put you in the weeds if you steer them backwards.

Such a Frankenstein airplane. Cessna 170B wings and tail, 180 firewall forward, fused to a tandem cockpit. But such a sweet flyer. I used to tow advertising banners in one. Loved it.

What kind of moron replaces the a radial on a 195 with a turboprop? A radial is the entire reason for owning a 195.

dude...NEVER go into beta in a turbo prop with only 2 wheels on the ground! We are in a foreign country...so the pilot skill is diminished quite a bit! Wheel landing are the on start of a ground loop, especially if you are unskilled pilot!

As a US Army O-1G Birddog pilot in Vietnam, you might want to adjust or correct your on-screen text that said the O-1 was a civilian aircraft used by the military. The O-1 was made specifically for the US Army in 1949 or 1950. It was not turned into a civilian aircraft until well into the 1980s or so.

Read Vietnam, Why Did We Go? by Avro Manhattan. But, also look into the Paraguay Reductions as Manhattan's book says the vatican was anti communism when in reality they created communism. Hegelian dialectic/double speak. Also read Rulers of Evil by F Tupper Saussy. Both books can easily be found online as a free downloadable PDF. Keep these great interviews coming!
