This is all due to ignorant tow truck drivers, as well as idiots buying electric vehicles. I was towing BEVs over a decade ago and knew then that they were supposed to be flat bed towed, or at least use a dolly.
if you were building a car trailer for moving your own cars/trucks around, maybe wheel finish is of no concern, would you use the same system and would a slot every 12 inches be necessary or overkill? I'm building a trailer to move the same few cars around so I'm also considering the possibility of adding permanent hooks on the car itself in a place that still allows the suspension to move freely.
Had my truck dropped off a dolly (AWD) on the highway doing 65, totaled my car, all 610 towing in Coon Rapids MN wanted to do was replace the tire. AAA absolutely chopped fucked and screwed me. Done absolutely dirty by both hands. 610 Towing in Coon Rapids.
Not saying this is not true but can someone explain why this would damage the vehicle. Knowing its electric would the rolling of the motors just charge the battery?
The motors have their own electric oil pumps for lubrication, so if the truck is off while rolling that means no oil pressure and planetary gear damage. Rolling the motor will also generate voltage since it will act like a generator, if the truck is off there's nowhere for the voltage to go, it can build up and blow out the motor electronics.
Same reason you don't tow an ice car very far or fast. There is an input and an output. Forcing the gear box and transmission to turn with the drive shaft as the input instead of the output to the gear box/transmission can ruin the gear box/transmission. Also, it will, become a generator but the system isn't on and won't manage the power properly.
Pretty much every AWD is wheels up.. can't think of one where the manual would recommend you to just lift one end... Even just had a 4x4 midsize pickup with the same transfer case controls as the full size and a transfer case neutral... But the manual says wheels up.
And yet we still have guys wheel lift towing cars on drive axles, FWD, AWD, RWD, 4X4 everyday burning down cars because their knucklehead friend told them to “send it” on a square body 20 years ago.

@@towtrucktech1555 my problem is the vehicle is completely dead and we need to move it to a charger. Jumping the low-voltage battery will not do anything. I’m just trying to move it without power.
