Welcome to my channel, which focuses on ballet with photography commentary. The channel consists of profiles of preeminent dancers such as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Herman Cornejo, Daniil Simkin, and others. Also, a ballet video dictionary consisting of steps performed by the ballet greats. I posted videos originally in September 2015. Revised videos were uploaded in August 2016 based on helpful comments from viewers.
Thanks to: My dance teacher Barbara Ebert at Ballet Midwest where I danced in the 1980s Edward Ellison of Ellison Ballet for help on terminology on several steps Chris Perez at Donaldson + Callif law firm for reviewing the project and videos I attempt to use terminology consistent with Gail Grant, Technical Manual and Dictionary of Classical Ballet (Dover 1982).

Carlos Acosta was painted by an amateur, Curtis Holder, commissioned by the Royal Portrait Gallery in London. You can see the video on you-tube where they both discos their careers during the sittings, very interesting. Also when Carlos sees the finished portrait at the unveiling ceremony at the RPG.
It's barely possible to thank you enough for this bliss of Ballet. What a dreamy couple they were...... suspect so many of us wish we could have seen him perform.
Just love Ivan. And with Osipova ? - pure magic on stage. He walks like a panther and dances with such joy. From what I’ve observed , such a good partner. 🩰🩰🙏👵🇦🇺
Really interesting analysis. I love the classic 32 fouettes in 'old school' Swan Lake. When my mum was at the Royal Ballet in London she could do 100 fouettes without moving from centre stage at all. Sadly, no video footage exists.
Best dancer ever. I had the honor of seeing him perform. It was so beautiful too cried through the whole thing. Tears of emotion. I’m a sap when it comes to the arts.
Thank you for this fascinating video! I love the slow motion moments you have created and the stills you captured. It makes for a really good way to analyse the abilities of these incredible ballerinas! And thanks so much for crediting my channel in your description 😊🙏❤️
A fascinating, well-explained side-by-side comparison of two splendid dancers. The two men were brilliant, but my heart will always be with Roberto il Magnifico!
In the beginning of the video we hear that Alexander never accepted the USSSR. This is the very reason that some Russians are insulting him by spreading rumors (as facts), that he was an alcoholic since a teenager. But first Alexander defected for artistic reasons ONLY. Then he couldn't follow this harsh and very daylly demanding program, being alcoholic. His unexpected, strange death ,needs answers from the Police.
I saw White Nights in the theater when it was released and loved it! I was a Barishnikov fan and really loved the duets with Hines. I thought the dancing was fabulous and still watch clips on RU-vid!
@leonshackleford9585 Alexander didn't die from alcoholism ATALL. Probably his very strange death needs a police answer. Alexander had many plans for his future and was 100% healthy , that we can clearly see in his last photos. Very bright white - pink healthy skin.
What a great artist! And what a great Human! I don't beleive in the theory of his alcohol addiction, especially long-term one as he was in a marvelous physical shape otherwise he would have experienced serious issues with liver. Also I agree with someone who commented on his death: too much mistery and a huge lack of facts. Police investigation is needed. The only thing I'm glad about is that his legacy lives until now.
I could never get my step son to take ballet. He was 10 Yrs. He was very clumsy and alward, always falling. I tried to tell him and his dad that ballet would help with those issues. What got in return from him and his dad was it's sissy. People would make fun of him. I wonder what Makhail would have said?
Baryshnikov had a great influence on young dancers, including myself in the late 70s and 80s. His celebrity paved the way for guys to dance. His name is still invoked when a wide receiver in football makes an acrobatic catch, even by people that don't know anything about ballet. He is the GOAT!
When Baryshnikov was in training, he asked his teacher how he could improve his leaps. His teacher said he should stay in the air longer. Mikhail instinctively knew what he meant and understood how to achieve it.
