Of all the Volodos recordings ( and a live concert I have been in the Philarmonie hall of Paris ) , this is probably his best ! Right up there with Perahia/Maazel , Serkin/Szell and Gilels/Reiner . Even if Zhukov , Anda and Hamelin are not on the same league because the orchestra aren't as good as the ones mentionned before , they are still worth a shot .

In some respects, the most gentle of Brahms 2nd's that I've heard -- no doubt performed by a pianist of, perhaps, unsurpassable greatness.
@vladibaby79
@vladibaby79 8 лет назад

Possibly the most gorgeous new encore in a pianist's concert repertoire in many, many years. The trivia question would be when this work was last performed as an encore by a different pianist - whereas most of the other top pianists simply play commonly played encores or works from the standard repertoire. Volodos (and Kissin used to at some level) are possibly the only major pianists of this era who have introduced encores that have not been played for decades, if at all.
@classicalalways
@classicalalways 9 лет назад
classicalalways And not new as in newly written, but as in this encore not being on the concert stage for decades, if at all. As of course, this work is hundreds of years old, and Vivaldi should thank Bach for taking to his music. Vivaldi would likely be obscure today otherwise.

Yes, the concert was wonderful and deeply moving! It's interesting that you ask for the Kinderszenen. For me, the Highlight of the concerts. Of course, the Brahms Intermezzi were great too. But this, I expected from Volodos. Kinderszenen have always been rather boring to me. In this concert the were soo much alive. I could nearly see my 2 children in front of me, so close ...

Groetje, Geert.
