It sounds you are very fit, and love data, which I do too. Having run Boston 5 times, and experienced every time a different result, I would suggest to use effort (RPE) and maybe HR, to manage your race. It’s going to be warmer than ideal racing conditions on Monday, so your pacing might not work. All the best, enjoy it too.

Thanks for the comment. My concern is after breakheart keep the pace in 4,20… if in this moment you go to 4,30 you don’t reach the goal. I guess is smart to do Boston in Positive because the hill at the end. I think that is brilliant. And risky :)

It appears that runners are banking time in a big way and trying to get to 16mile with hopeful enough in the bank to freewheel home from 35k..TBH…that will probably be my strategy in 2 weeks time also…😂😂

Great video! I was also wondering why so many Japanese were good at long distances! Do you know if they train at ALTITUDE in high school more than Americans do? That may be another reason for their insane times
@RunningOtaku
@RunningOtaku 9 месяцев назад
Most of the “altitude” training in Japan is in Nagano prefecture, but it’s under 5000 feet elevation. The Japanese pros will go to Kenya or the US for altitude camps.
@RunningOtaku
@RunningOtaku 5 месяцев назад
@@williampatrick8814 I saw that! NAU has its own altitude chamber too. Sometimes they set it to sea level to get in fast-paced treadmill runs.

Before hitting the lap button, the distance is off by about a half mile from my base screen. Correcting lap seems to take it to nearest kilo rather than mike even though my watch is displaying in miles - any suggestions?

Suoer helpful info! I'm trying ro decide betweeen the 245 models with or without music. I currently listen to podcasts and even RU-vid videos on my phone (in a spi belt at my waist) paired with Bluetooth headphone. You've helped me decide that the music model just isn't worth it - becaue of the extra hassle of downloading and the glitches/unresponsive manner it plays poscasts. Plus, sometimes it's nice to take a phone call (walker and cycler here, not a runner), and I'd need my phone for that anyways! The only way I can see the music model would be great for me would be for music while lifting at the gym.

Gps is very good, at least it's much better on Apple Watch than on the Garmin 965 that I returned to the shop. Bad for GPS and HR.

When narrating over footage your voice clips the microphone levels and it goes too loud and isn't pleasant to listen to, about 3:25. Thought you'd like to know.

Problem with this chart is you'd need to know what their target pace was before the race started. We don't know how much their choices deviated from the goal.

@AaronToponce

I know this video is four years old, but I wanted to address a couple of the shortcomings of running power meters at the end of the video. First and most obvious, it's almost as if you were prophetic in that Stryd released their wind version like 8 months after you published this video, and their "next gen" version that just released a few months ago further improves on wind measurement. Second, Stryd doesn't take into account temperature and humidity in their power calculation. I think this is a big drawback, as those who live in humid conditions know how humidity can impact your running. Stryd doesn't necessarily need to make that metric available on the watch or in the PowerCenter, but it should be part of the power calculation. Third, not only is squishy terrain problematic, but steep grades where you change from running to walking is problematic also. There's a long thread on club.stryd.com debating why Stryd is almost useless for mountain and ultra trail running, due to steep inclines. Stryd is almost exclusively a road running tool, unless of course you can maintain a run across 100% of your trail. Fantastic video. I really enjoyed watching it, and love your dog Harry.
