What does the volume button actually mean? Is it like the gain button? Does this Boya have a gain function with which one can set the sensitivity of the microphone?
I have been told the lens calibration for dslrs are for the focus system the camera uses when you are looking through the viewfinder. I have been told that when you have your dslr on live view, the camera uses a different focus system, and that one doesn’t have the problem with calibration. While I know the camera will be more steady holding it against your face than holding it away looking at the camera monitor, is this true about the focus systems on most dslrs?
Hello Andrew - as always with your content, I like the piece and the concept - but your view of "cheap secondhand photography" is a long way off what most students can afford when starting out. Next time - please take a step back to truely affordable student kit - how about a Nikon D50 DSLR and the 18-55 kit lens? That is a sub $100 buy in most of the world - I got one last year. As you found - you can't just get "pop" and "separation" from a kit zooom compared with wide aperture primes - instead you have to separate using contrast and colour and movement and lighting and patterns. It's a great creative composition exercise for any photographer to try this and takes composition away from the "lazy" approach of an 85mm F1.4 portrait with near everything blurred out by the bokeh. So - do you need more than 6MP APS sensor to deliver a great portrait? Can you "separate" the subject from the environment with more than just wide-aperture "blur"? Can you nail the exposure using the histogram and tiny 2010 era LCD without liveview rather than using a big LCD and an EVF? Also - the D50 has a surprising twist - it syncronises flash at 1/500th and being Nikon, can take inexpensive old high voltage flashguns. Now how's that for a challenge for you and the students Andrew !!
Andrew, thank you for the review. Really nice light. OK there is plastic, but I have noticed not all plastic is the same. Sometimes plastic can be easily damaged, where as other types of plastic has wood-like qualities. What is really is nice to see, is that Zhiyun has used screw-on grids covering the ventilation proppelers (probably called differently... sorry) - so I guess the lights are meant to be easily serviced. Something that is hard to find these days. Always enjoy your vids... Have a nice day.
If the light creates a lot of heat build-up? That's why there is a battery of cooling fans and holes to effect steady cooling action. Why do they make the housing Black in color? Because Black absorbs and retains heat. So on one hand you are trying to get rid of heat but using a product color that holds onto heat. I'm sure everything functions as intended. But having a White housing. Would that not function a little cooler? Always enjoy your videos Andrew. Really like your Blooper footage.
That's a great option for someone who doesn't have a lot to spend on a full metal light. It's very responsive and bright and a little more compact than other lights. Great video, Andrew!
Great video, I’ve been playing around with aperture priority mode on my Z5 and this video cleared things up and makes taking photos easier. Thanks and Subscribed!
