G'day I'm Pete Hollands, a professional Australian bridge player, who makes play videos of the card game Bridge where I discuss my thoughts as I play a hand to help give other players an insight into my thought process.
I upload videos every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and on other special occasions. On Tuesday I upload the Weekly Free Instant Tournament which is an event that can be played on Bridge Base Online (BBO). Thursday I upload another play video which varies from Challenge accepted to Pete Vs The World to a Free Daylong Tournament. Friday I post my favourite hand from the week and give a little more explanation .
I also post lessons and much much more content on another website I founded which is bridgevid.com where you can find all my youtube content and much much more.
Also if East has the KQx of Diamonds but not the AC then the 10 wins or if East splits then the 10D gives an entry to the J7 or if that's ducked another diamond, East wins and has to give a ruff and discard your club. I also ruffed in both hands as you don't want to discard a minor card in either hand yet. doing so equals fail.
Sorry, I’m not convinced. I gave up trying to learn the game because there are literally none of you bridge teachers out there who were sincerely willing to take in someone who learns differently (me, an autistic) and give him the classroom environment and no-nonsense lectures he needs to retain information. The game is dying precisely because you’re treating people who want to learn as not welcome, which is why the ACBL has flatlined at 150,000 members (and dropping fast) and millions have decided the game is not for them. I moved on to the more welcoming environment that chess and Riichi mahjong provide, and I will never go back.
On board 6 after they dont take Ace of S And you win King S, woudn't it be a better play to go Ace H, then JH to QH and play 3 rounds of diamonds pitching spades and then rough the spade with KH. Reason being because this line is only worse if diamonds are 6-2 mainly I think, and maybe a 4-1 trump break with 5-3 diamonds and bad club break. But overall probably more likely to be favourable?
Love these videos. I just played these hands but BBO doesn't show me anyone making 6NT on board 8. Who and how many people are we playing against in the instant free tournament.
Board 3 - I went the low route and passed 2S and made it. Board 4 I did the same as you - so much for expert bidding! Board 8 - I passed too quickly - I would have also bid 6NT.
The advantages and disadvantages of readily recalling previous hands is an interesting discussion. You would be less biased to assuming a hand will play identically to a similar hand you remember which helps avoid errors if there is a subtle difference in the actual hand being played . I would say overall though a good bridge memory is more of an assest helps conserve much more mental energy to easily recall hands and now what worked well in them .
I’m 34 now but when I used to play in the local club with the father the cards were hand dealt and often they’d forget to redeal some boards from one week to the next , wasn’t until I met the hand at some point in the night that I could tell them but usually it had been played numerous times at that stage . You’re certainly not the only culprit anyway so no harm done sir.
2. Why didn't you attack spades to sluff a losing diamond before drawing trump? 5. I just closed my eyes and bid 6S once I realized the predicament the bot bidding put me in. I figured that my source of tricks and the 5-3 spade fit would be enough.
This might be even more interesting, if your opponent were similarly constrained. Variations according to whether you know which bids the other guy has used, or whether you are in the dark.
Cheers, if you want to support me I do have a Patreon : www.patreon.com/bridgevid I do try and make most of my stuff free to access so the patreon is mainly for people that want to support me.
Board 4 was 2 down without a trump lead. heart for the A, 3 rounds of diamonds. two high clubs and a fourth round of diamonds promotes the spade Q to a trick.
Maybe if you double the opponents in a 3H contract and win the board then you can also cross out 3H? It can give you an incentive to play more hands and maybe even sometimes you can try to get them to sacrifice on purpose?
Hi Pete, I was thinking maybe you could arrange random Patreon challenge matches to promote your Patreon page? I am a big fan of your never ending promoting of bridge. Cheers Gary.
Hey Pete. I am looking forward to your next adventure in bridge...One bid only, don't draw trumps and bridge bingo have been such a hoot to watch!! Love'ya kid.
After our tours with the US Army ('67-'70) my brother and I returned to Michigan State University and learned the game of bridge. Within a year or so we developed our own system: We called it Balls Convention - "either you got 'em or you don't"

Thanks for this Pete, really useful as always. Managed 3 draws and a win. The win was surprisingly in board 2, where it didn't occur to me to investigate slam, ended up playing 3N. The surprise was when I saw you played in a suit, whilst I know you also prefer to play NT, especially at this scoring method. Great hands!
I think robots bid pretty weak here. Should go to game even after the 2hearts weak open, and should definitely investigate slam after us superaccepting spades.
I'm usually quite positive of the robots - I actually they are better than people actually realise. I do want to clarify interesting bids that they could make though but point taken.
