Interesting analysis. I would rather Caicedo stay in the deep position while Fernandez pushes up front. Caicedo has a good passing range, I am not sure why the press often overlooks that.
Idk how on earth will Sanchez play as a sleeper he is not great at passing the ball or keeping it he gets too nervous i see the coach being sacked in 6 months
Amazing Video! I think PPDA is how many passes the opposition is allowed to make before your team makes a defensive action to attemp to steal the ball (tackles, interceptions, etc...) and not necessarily succeeding in stealing it, and that's why it's Passes Per Defensive Action. Correct me if i am wrong though.

He had one year with a flawed squad of players not suited to his style of play. At Chelsea he has a much more talented team that is suited to how he wants his team to play.
Maresca's problem next year will not be scoring goals. They have the talent for that in spades. The problem will be shoring up their defence. This season Chelsea scored 77, and against Championship level opposition, that number might have been 100. To win the Premiership next season, they need concede half the 63 they let though in 2023-24. Last season their defence against set plays and quick transitions was very poor. Solving this problem, without compromising their attacking ability, will be the true test of Maresca's skill.
We need a goal keeper who is very comfortable on the ball for this, man city are willing to listen to offers for Ederson, no one is better than him on the ball,I say we try to get him although it won't be easy cause we don't really have much to offer him except new challenge and maybe a hefty salary(tricky bcos of FFP)
You are spot on with this but if i may add, the cdm should be caicedo because he so used to play quite deep and narrow previously at brighton when he had his breakout season and also in ecuador in last world cup, and the more b2b midfielder should be gallagher because he's one of the best presser in the game last season, he also record pretty big distance covered but the problem would definitely on Enzo's price tag, 120m on the bench isn't something that the board and some fans would satisfied with even if they have a good season
What Maresca will struggle with is not just the low block. It is that a lot of balls go across our final third (huge risk in The Premier League). Anything wayward and you are handing your opposition a free goal which means we are going to have to come from behind in matches. Despite overloading the midfield with a man advantage. With our inverted fullbacks we are a man down in our backline (I don't count any keeper as a part of the back four). So, now teams can transition, counter-attack, and overload our final third. It also means if we face a good pressing team like Man City, Arsenal, etc., we will struggle to work the ball into a threatening position. We need our forwards to come deeper to go forward which means very little runs in behind. Despite having trouble with low blocks if we are not fast enough and sharp enough out of the gates then we could find ourselves 2-0 down and our slow build up play does not favor getting very many chances on goal. I don't care for possession-based football I want goal-based football. On top of that, possession-based football in a low block means nothing because all you are doing is retaining possession with no incisiveness. It becomes slow and predictable and over a full 90+ wastes a shit ton of time.
Chelsea could slot in James and Cucarella both attacking with a 3-2-5 in attack by playing either with a regular CDM like Lavia or Ugochukwu to drop as a half-back or to use Enzo as a very deep lying playmaker to give him space to make long passes. Caicedo would then be dropping into the midfield 2 with Cucarella and Palmer would be attacking the left half space, with Madueke as an inverted winger and James on the far right side
It will never work in a big club beside germany....The rest have managers that can pay money to find players and adapt....In La Liga he would get crushed
True, but I still feel there needs to be a certain hierarchy within the team that is still not set. I don't think it's positive if no one knows if they are the starter or not every weekend. Having great back-up options is key and will help Maresca in all the competitions, but constantly changing players in certain positions every weekend will make it tough (imo)
I think that line up is perfect to attack since you are having Palmer in the middle and Nkunku joining in inside with Madueke too, they can promote a lot of combinations even against low blocks but can they prevent the counter-attack? Palmer it is not that intense without the ball, same with Enzo, Caicedo might need some help in the middle and that help could come by having Gallagher instead of Enzo, better at pressing but worst at the construction phase, I think they could switch depending on the opponent. Great video, it was really well explained and I´m very curious to see how Chelsea will play it out with Maresca in comand.
Nkunku is also a tough player cuz I don’t think he can hold width on the left unless u have someone overlapping him (which Maresca prob wouldn’t do). He doesn’t have the defensive ability (mostly work rate to play as a midfielder. And he’s also not good enough in the air to play as a striker. He’s a great player but also one that’s hard to use
Chelsea are sleeping on Jackson as they say YOU NEVER MISS THE WATER UNTIL ITS GONNA they seem to forget how much we missed Jackson last season when he when to afcon we couldn't function at all we need to stop the hate on Jackson Chelsea fans are notorious for bringing down their own players
I dont trust Cucurella defensively for this type of play in the back line. I would think James would invert. Which means we need a better LB or play Badiashille there.
My biggest concern is the midfield enzo fernandez situation. I am not sure how he will play the winks role because although he can play great passes, his defense is horrible. Lavia is perfect for that deep lying playmaking role with caicedo box to box & palmer as the hybrid 8/10
Why would the best most talented midfielder in the premier league play the "winks role". You think the directors would have hired Maresca if thatwas his plan? 😂
@@nicolascastelli4439 so what other role would he play. He can’t do box to box & for drewsbury-hall palmer is the perfect 8/10 role not enzo. enzo can pass not score as well
