Most of these videos fail to mention an important detail. All these new age amazing managers work at relatively smaller clubs, and oppositions don't sit back against them. The biggest problem when they go to bigger clubs is breaking down low blocks.
Relevant, but everyone needs experience, just like in any other profession. You can’t be world’s best manager in the beginning of your career. Inzaghi learned a lot in recent years and now is one of the best. Xabi Alonso is also developing very well.
@@raff0155 Calafiori is not only a defender this season at Bologna, often he plays as a midfielder, his left foot is a midfielder, and the team often plays with an extra midfielder
I like your channel because you aren't stuck in the Premier League and aren't arrogant to other styles, cultures and leagues. And I also really like your second channel, even though I don't have any interesting in coaching, I'm curious about it
I find most of the top coaches today are those who played the “regista” role like Pep, Motta and Xabi Alonso. Players who understand what it takes defensively to win games but also had the vision and passing range to play an exciting brand of football.
His philosophy summed up in few words in the beginning of this video "defending when you are attacking and attacking when you're defending" is not unique to him.
midfielder always understand the better, that while the always a better coach, city coach, Liverpool coach, Madrid coach, Leverkusen coach Alonso, Brighton coach, PSG coach, coal-man formal barca coach & so on, midfielders understand the better.
Really enjoy watching Bologna this season. I was waiting for someone to talk about Motta's tactic and then this video popped into my feed. Great analysis, thank you.
Would love to watch a video about Sporting as we are top off the portuguese league, playing very well and have good dynamics, keep it up with that great work man!
I've seen many Bologna matches...they are just amazing. Considering the fact that Thiago Motta started as manager at Spezia who actually got relegated, is incredible to see the comeback of Thiago Motta.
He is in a amazingly small team, so he doesnt receive all the recognitiom he deserves. Motta is doing AN AWESOME, GREAT, FANTASTIC JOB. And, for those Who's never watched a Bologna match, do it, you won't regref
Honestly I'm surprised at this recent spotlight. I never even knew where Motta was off to, after his playing days...Ok now you've sparked my interest. I'll watch Bologna henceforth.
And thank you for making this well-made & easy-to-understand video. Zirkzee's movement reminds me of the freedom of positioning during attacking build-ups that Maddison has at Tottenham. Sometimes he drop deep near Bissouma or around the team's penalty box. If the opponent follows, there are space for his teammate to move into. Also, impressive numbers from Zirkzee regarding his xG & xA. That could & would definitely be notice by - with all due respect to Bologna - the bigger clubs.
Intriguing to learn how these relatively less prominent coaches (other than Guardiola, Ancelotti or Mourinho) are faring. Recently I watched videos on tactical approaches by the likes of Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen and Roberto Zerbi at Brighton and of course from Girona in Spain... Brilliant !! LOVE IT❤..!!👍
I’m planning to watch some of Bologna’s games and this video will definitely help to understand their way of playing. Great analysis, thank you very much!
Great analysis. Motta has been a big revelation this season and one thing thst is worthy of note is how fit snd aggressive they are during their press. Shows how much the players are ready to work to succeed.

"Disrupting" is a bit exaggerated. He has a very unique look on tactics, but it's hardly making a dent in his clubs performances. He got fired after 10 games (2W, 3D, 5L) with Genoa, ended 16th with Spezia and currently sits 7th with Bologna, who got 9th place last season without him.
2 names for you: Rinus Mitchels and Johan Cruyff. All I see is a football philosophy taught at la masia, he earned his stripes with Barca. Those are the fundamentals he built on, of course with a zest of influences from Bielsa and Mourinho.
Man i wish Motta joined Barcelona if Xavi is to be sacked, he's a very promising tactician, before anything else, and i believe his policy would fit the new Barcelona. Sadly since he doesn't have "Barca DND", Laporta will never even consider him and we'll probably get another missed take on a coaching
Barca need to appoint motta to barca b and made him to barca type coach. After this season barca need to analysis the team and after that barca can made any decisions. After this season Xavi's contract would end. But I prefer barca need to sign motta right now add him to barca's coaching stuffs this would make barca a better team.
@@sijoypjohn While i agree, there's no chance he would want to be appointed to Barca B, when he's one of most promising new choaches out there, and already is wayy better then current Barca coach.
Can't wait for Motta vs Alonso, two of the very best defensive midfielders of their time who are now elite managers with meticulous and promising tactical setups
Great video and great analysis as usual from you guys, props for that. However it's kind of sad that "trusting your teammates" has to be mentioned as an actual strategy though. That really should be a given and something a coach doesn't have to actively demand from pro players, at least in any other sports that's the case but that's kind of the sadness we have to live with i guess.
Counter press, you mean being on top of a team, when you are playing well, who would of thought of that, oi never saw that in the 60s 70s or 80s with good teams....it must be new
Always bringing the game to the easiest way to understand tnx u so much. Am requesting u sir to look thru the eredivise leaders PSV they r really performing well much ❤❤❤
This was another very insightful video of yours. I would love to hear your thoughts about Juventus strategic issues, if there's any reason to play as passively as they usually do (perhaps a lack of creative midfielders as some people suggest) or if it's just a byproduct of a defensive-minded coach. Great content anyway, keep it going!
Very interesting analysis, thank you! We're playing Atalanta on Sun, 3rd March, and Inter on Sun, 10th March, if anyone's interested. Win or lose, we're just beautiful to watch. I think Thiago will stay another year to showcase his idea of football before moving on to bigger clubs. And it won't be an Italian club, regardless of what Juve and Milan fans say. He wants to play his style of football and he wants a free hand at how he manages players. You may think you're a star but unless you give your all during training, your 18sthg substitute is gonna be starting in your place 😂😂😂 I'd also like to stress that he has an amazing staff. All of our players have improved so much since last season. Forza Bologna sempre ❤💙
I just think the double pivot isn't effective when you play against a team who plays with a low block. Motta has his team counter press really well, but he hasn't played with teams that use a low block all that often.
What strikes the attention is that every single one of the players of this Bologna seems perfectly born to play Motta's football. It's really difficult to find ONE player who openly seems out of the schemes, in difficulties applying Motta's requests or simply not playing at his 100%. Probably just Karlsson at the start of the season, and his is a comprehensible difficulty since he's used to a less defensive and organized football. But seriously everyone on the pitch, from the starters to the subs, is at his ease with Motta's requests expressing his best. Calafiori, Zirkzee, Fabbian, Ferguson, Orsolini, even the less famous and flashy Aebischer, Freuler, Beukema, Lucumì, Saelemaekers, Ndoye, Kristiansen: it's clear they all know exactly and perfectly what to do on the pitch
dont knw if am gonna get hate for this...but if you analyse carefully, this is actually how ten hag wants to play at united. the inverted centrebacks, the reason for bringing onana coz he obviously was planning to be playing the ball more on united's half, then quickly transition on attack in the space behind the defenders(that's why u hear him say everyday "we want to be the best transition team"). i think he just doesn't have the ball-playing centreback to back Martinez and injuries made it even worse, lets see when he gets centrebacks in the summer how next season will look like.
This is something i Actually do in Football Manager when you have a low block possession it leaves alot of spaces in behind for a through ball or Ball over the Top. Actually saw a video about his Tactics like over 5 years ago when he was still a PSG Academy Coach, people saying how it will revolutionize football glad he didn't just disappear like the new Brazilian Tactic.
Thiago's Bologna will most likely finish 4th this season and will play in the next CL since Serie A is now able to bring in 5 teams. I really hope this team will stay together also next year
Bologna will definitely end up the season as 4th or 5th, but the worst possible thing for them would be losing Motta at the end of the season, and the two best players, Zirkzee & Luis Ferguson. For the first one, Milan is very, very hot, as well as Napoli, who also likes Ferguson a lot, but for him, there's a strong opposition in Juventus (which I think, it'll be such a sad site to see himplay under Allegri, who isn't just a coach - together with Mourinho - from Jurassic era), and althoough they'll fill their budget significantly and be able t buy mre players than what they did last summer, still, it'll be a big blow, especially f they end up in CL!
Nobody is re-inventing the wheel, pre late 1960's when almost every club adopted the 4-4-2 shape, teams were set up in a very attacking team shape. Liverpool have played with a high press from 1960's, through to current day as well as goal keepers playing as a sweeper and defensive players encouraged to join in going forward with rotation of other players as cover! These managers are credited with inventing modern football when all it amounts to is an adaptation or variation on team shapes from 40- 60 years ago
2 things to consider: 1- Inter and Milan are more attacking prone than Bologna in Serie A 2- we are talking about a mid team facing teams that won't sit back and try to steal a draw or punish on a counter. Will Thiago Motta will be able to do the same in a big club when is needed to find alternatives on breaking down low blocks?
great job, as always!!! tell me please, if you dont have any problem, can you tell me what softwate do you use for editing? football software or other? thank you
I hope he has the ambition, confidence and ego to stay at Bologna and bring them to dominance. So sick of the player /coach should go here or there argument
If you are playing with high possession rates in a low-budget team that is normally a relegation candidate and fighting for 4th place with the same team, you have a 90% chance of being successful in a high-budget team. Thiago Motta and Xabi Alonso will win 2 champions leagues in 15 years.
