I love Overwatch, it’s my first ever first person shooter and I never once gave it up. But lately.. I’ve just not been having fun anymore. It’s so draining and I am an avid competitive player the new ranking system is garbage. And I miss the lore team, the comics, the short stories, the cinematics, just the character interactions!! PvE was so exciting and I hope they do bring it to life one day. I’m also a huge game browser nerd, have so many hours on game browser playing so many unique game modes made by players. I’m sure I’ll have fun again with this game one day but now it just isn’t it.

Oh my god - I just discovered your channel (all hail the algorithm!) and I played OW tonight after forever. I had the OG 2016 game, I was there for the OG Pink Mercy skin. I was a Battleborn hopeful, and when that game died I jumped on in 2017 to Overwatch. I have so many memories of playing the game with friends at college. I hoped to maybe get some of that back when the 2nd’s beta was released but you just play it and find nothing changed. That feeling made me uninstall immediately.
27:38 I normally don’t consume overwatch content due to most of it being made by comp and high skill players but I’m glad I’ve watched this. I still play the game, I love Zen too much lol and I find Venture to be addictive in both personality and gameplay. That said, as someone who is just now breaking out of hard support (closing in on 300hrs for zen, 200 for Lucio), I find dps and tank in role queue unbearable (on top of the poor game sense quite a few console players have) but in open queue, you have so much freedom as any role to flank and have an impact. Reason being is pretty obvious, most players go 2 tanks, 2 dps, and 1 support, the tanks hold space so much better when they have another person to lean back on making them less reliant on supports even if neither are shield heroes. It’s so cathartic to hear my frustrations being validated rather than “just stick with your team” (despite them being splayed all over the map rather than point because playing point isn’t as fun). I always come back to the game no matter how miserable because I cling to the small things like direct hits on junk and pharah or customs but there’s always part of me that ails whenever I turn on my console, but thank you, for making me feel less alone.
i haven’t played ow in weeks, i just can’t keep on playing a game i don’t even enjoy anymore. i honestly had no real reason to play the game. i used to be a huge defender for overwatch, i saw how great it could be from the very beginning. i started early 2017, my friend bought it for me for my b day. i FELL in love with this game, it was so unique and the hero’s were legit one of a kind. i used to LOVE to play doomfist, no other game had what overwatch had. the lore and everything seemed to be headed to a great direction but alas this game is damn near dead. smh
I am happy you quit! I have been playing this game since it came out and I have had nothing but fun. There is this subset of every game population of people who don't adapt well to change and can only focus on what used to be. I think this type of mindset creates a perpetual cycle where no matter what game you play long-term you are going to be unhappy. I would recommend not playing live service games. Watching this I am blown away! Having to have this much unrest over a game is not good for you. I hope you find something to do you enjoy.
Honestly, as an Overwatch 1 player who started when it came out in 2016 and left in 2019 *because* Blizzard banned that E-sports player for verbally supporting the Hong Kong riots, I'm disappointed you never came back to that point even though you almost talked about it at 12:37 :/ Especially when it was a huge thing in the Overwatch community when that happened- for people who want to learn more, here's a link to a Wikipedia article about it, with sources! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitzchung_controversy It was a powerful thing to see, with #BoycottBlizzard, and fan creators turning Mei into a symbol of support for the Hong Kong rioters. Maybe the phenomenon was something you weren't super active in, which is fine, but it sucks to hear you start to talk about it and then cut yourself off, never returning to it in the rest of the video. And a slight clarification! Blizzard did indeed get the Overwatch 1 streaming category on Twitch removed, but that didn't actually *delete* any Overwatch clips from Twitch. If you go to a channel that had Overwatch 1 clips, they will still be there unless the user deleted them. I currently have Overwatch 1 clips on my channel that were made in 2018. But the lack of a streaming category does hamper visibility, in the sense that if people don't actively seek them out, then they probably won't find any :( Thank you for the video! i joined tf2 two years ago and i never played OW but i understand you so much, being a new tf2 player, it feels like im in an abandoned building with friends. people are there and are having fun, but it is abandoned and someday it will collapse due to lack of care. i would probably be devastated if tf2 shut down for good. WHEN tf2 shuts down for good. its really sad seeing the game and the characters you love so much and have so many memories with just. die in front of your eyes. mad respect and solidarity for yall we are in this together (getting screwed by game companies)
The worst part of all this is how a lot of people cope with their anger and frustration by harassing the devs... after everything that's come to light about blizzard's inner workings it's truly sad how kotick and upper management killed this game and the pve. To anyone reading this, don't harass the devs. It's not any of their fault, they simply didn't have the resources to deliver on the promise of OW2. And don't harass the current devs either, most of them probably weren't even there when OW2 was announced, or even when it launched. It's true, the vision is lost, but that's what happens when new people try to maintain a game while simultaneously trying to understand the thoughts of the old people. P.S.: great video, it's sad how us who were here for the story are now left in the dust (I still play regularly, miserable tank player at your service), especially now since I've heard there was a Netflix show in the works in 2020
Thanks so much, you can tell overwatch meant a lot to you. Overwatch also changed my life and was a safe place for me. I met my best friend and partner on ow and was able to have fun with my high school mates. I loved mercy and dva especially and loved the vibe and characters. But at some point things changed. I haven't been able to let go even though it has changed so much. But it's something i think about often, how much the game meant and how i wish it was cared for
As a fellow hardstuck bronze/silver mercy/diva main, it's really nice to hear a perspective from a casual lower-rank player. I played overwatch for a loooong time, sometimes off and on, but I never totally gave it up. I liked role queue because it meant I wouldn't be stuck as the one healer among 5 dps. I really enjoyed them adding superjump as a real feature in OW2. There are even some things about 5v5 that I like! For a long time, I maintained that overwatch had its problems, but it was more fun than people gave it credit for if you weren't tryharding all the time and getting obsessed with rank. But I've taken a break from overwatch for maybe 3-4 months now because I felt like the toxicity was too much. It sucks being a girl in voicechat and god forbid you're not grandmaster carrying everyone to make up for it. Your video made me want to try playing again a little bit, just to see how it felt. I didn't encounter any toxicity, but after 3 games I was just *done*. It really isn't fun anymore. Maybe it's because my aim sucks, but I think the game just feels bad to play at this point. I don't have the game design experience to articulate why, but it just isn't fun and I'm not sure there's anything the team could do to bring that back without performing a complete overhaul of the entire game. Blizzard has created a game so broken to its core that fails to deliver on every single promise it originally had. I went from feeling disappointed to angry at overwatch over the course of this video, and I'm glad you laid it out so clearly with your own unique perspective.
It’s honestly incredibly painful what happened to Overwatch. What was once a game I respected and wanted to support, see more of their characters and learn about them as people, has now become how can we extract as much money out of our consumers while never delivering on any of our promises. Please get these characters out of this game and away from Blizzard. I refuse to play another second of this game.
let's talk about the events too like the winter one, halloween, summer games... ANNIVERSARY. It's currently OW2 anniversary event - but it doesn't feel like an event at all. its all hollow. I miss old ow1. I've been playing since 2016, I was there for the first summer games. I keep trying to play ow2 and I do play it, but do I enjoy it as much? nope
The events REALLY feel hollow. It's just a new set of skins I'm not going to buy. No real event. Things like that were what had me as a daily player for a long time.
The end story about giving away the Overwatch figures and merch with no feeling despite what it meant to you guys was so sad. is it weird that i miss even loot boxes? i never payed for them but it was sometimes nice to grind to just get a free one and get some coins or even a skin sometimes. now its just a battle pass and you get literally nothing for free
It is crazy to hear and think about this game being better. Let me preface that by saying I just started playing Overwatch like 2 months ago. For years my FPS of choice was Apex Legends, but about 2 months ago my BF got me into OW2 and I have been obsessed with it. Coming from a game like Apex the skill floor in casual lobbies is so much lower for this game than Apex. It actually makes the game fun versus just constantly dying. I have fun and really enjoy playing the game. I think it would be really awesome to see some of the things you bring up in the video be put into OW2. It is ashame to hear about all this amazing stuff we all missed out on.
I remember OW with fondness, even as my group fractured and fell apart during quarantine… and I ended up only touching the game on rare occasion. I even picked the game back up when I heard OW 1 was leaving- I even played Comp! Which is crazy for me, I never played competitively since I wasn’t good. Gave OW2 a chance for the story mode. I mean- I loved Overwatch’s universe, and I was invested in the lore! Plus, skill trees? I don’t have to play online with people to play the game? Sign me up! Then it didn’t happen. And… well, the last time I played was during the grind for Ancient Caller Moira. Haven’t looked back, and haven’t found a reason to. Played the three missions, learned they dropped story mode completely, and bailed. No regrets. I just wish we could at least know the ideas that were thrown around for the story… just- something. The lack of closure haunts me
I dont agree with the way that they should show identity of their relationship at the forefront , because it gets in the mission,tbh leaving paper trails is arguably better because the interpersonal relationship is left to the player for convenience as a headcanon What matters more imo, is how they interact in game and in cutscenes and even that shouldn’t be any relationship related higher than friends because this is a hero shooter and tbh we should be getting more cinematics Your point is good if they dropped the game and they made it a show though
Fantastic video. I think the main thing I forgot about was the lore (and so did Blizzard), and how much story and character potential there used to be. It's just a mobile game skin shop now. I don't have any attachment to the stories now, and it's crazy that they even try to make a half-baked cinematic for a new character, only to slap a $25 skin on them and ask us to pay up.
I didn't like Blizz before OW, but after OW2 I hate them. I'm sorry this story had to be a sad one, you seem very sweet. I remember when it was easy to find people to play with before game which made meeting people a lot better, and I can't look at the game without seeing everything we lost. Hell even my preferred playstyle, off-tank, isn't even a thing anymore. What an incompetent company.
there's a reason casuals dont have a say tho. You dont have a right to complain like the others do cuz its really not that bad for you. Every quick play i play is over before it starts cuz i play so much ranked and its an entirely different ball park
