You can copy sounds.. but you can't edit the copy as the copy refers to the original, however, in saying that.. if you delete the original.. the 'copy' then becomes 'editable' as it's no longer a 'copy' 👍🏼
Is it possible to delete files and folders? If so, what’s the best way to do it? On the Rossum or on the computer? Thank you for the great videos. SO helpful!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻 ..if you have a computer, it is a lot easier to manage Files and Folders. As a rule, I always keep Files and Folder names 'short'.. and without using any 'spaces' or 'characters' that the SP may not be capable of displaying 👍🏼
Q1. If you have 1 sound in the SP memory, you can save that on it's own. Q2. Use the Disk Module option #0 - watch this clip for more ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fJllMiVqL3U.htmlsi=Z23fcnHdolB4z7Av&t=1645 🙏🏻
Nnnnnn.. well, technically.. with the right Windows OS, and some old software, you could 'rip' the samples from 'SP1200 disk images' as WAVs. Then, you could load those WAVs into an MPC. So, it is possible.. if you have the right stuff👍🏼
@@tonelabqt ok, thank you. So it’s not possible to insert the disk into the MPC x se directly, that would be a dream. Workflow is great on the MPC x se,
No, but.. I created an XPM (MPC Program) for the SP1200. Each MPC Bank & Pad number.. relates to the 'same' Bank & Pad number on the SP1200. MIDI cable 'Out' of the MPC.. into your SP1200. Select a MIDI Track, on your MPC.. assign MIDI Channel 1 and away you go! 👌🏼 Download it here FREE 🙏🏻 www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/2yox49of1hotm8bzydsz9/SP1200-TL-MIDI.xpm?rlkey=hzl7ulwpj1ac1xyre1c1ki3qa&st=xmir55mi&dl=0
The 'concept' will. But, I'm unsure of the EPS Classic's Sample Rate... so, what you can do is.. use the S900 / S950 calculator.. and manually key in your Sample Rate. Here's the link to it here 👍🏼 tonelab.tv/bpm2vrsc.html
Oh snap! i just found out what is the sound before "Mental Stamina" by Jeru, thank you sir. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nVmDe6fDQ9k.htmlsi=09nCbbq02_nfsQYz
Hi, do you know how to transfer hfe files to the rossum? I have a og sp1200 with sd card reader and looking to transfer my projects to the rossum. Thanks
nice video, did exacly as you did.. but do you have any issues when tracking same value notes? laying chords or melodies with same value notes (like a C3, E3, G3) causes them to cut off despite them being on their own respected Midi channel. Running off ableton with an mpc live 2.
No, but I do remember that bug with 1 specific OS.. unfortunately I can't remember what it was... if I had to guess 2.14 perhaps?! ..so, either downgrade to the previous version, or go up.. that is.. if your Computer OS is compatible with it. Check out this page to check out whether or not your OS supports those versions 🙏🏻 support.akaipro.com/en/support/solutions/69000431967
Yeah, if you have the 3.5" Disks.. you could source a Windows PC, with 3.5" Disk Drive.. and use OmniFlop to convert your SP Disks to Image Files. The Rossum can load image files of that nature 🙏🏻
@@tonelabqt Thanks so much for taking the time, I really appreciate it. Would LOVE to see you do a tutorial on it. I can't be the only one in the same sort of quandary. Also, just to confirm, this operation can't be done on a Mac? Thanks again for your help!!!
Just to let you know that drop box link works but the safari test kit files does nothing, I loaded it on to my Mpc one and it did nothing also on to Mpc beats 2 and the same thing nothing there sorry to say ,will be trying you calculator at some point to see if that works
"the safari test kit files does nothing" ?! ...in what sense?! ..did you select it via Programs?! ...it's worked for many others, so I'm unsure what 'does nothing' means. Can you see the Waveforms if you try to edit the Program.. via Prog Edit?! The calculator has worked for many, so I expect you should have no problem there 🙏🏻
Hard to see from where I'm sitting.. but, like I was saying, if you can't access the Samples via the Edit Prog-page... then, the Program (and it's Samples) have not been loaded into your MPC. So, troubleshoot the 'LOAD' step, first. 👍🏼
@@tonelabqt can you send the digital out to a external mixer channel? I have the main out on 1 and 2 and I have thedigital out on 3 and 4 The mpc is spitting out both signals at the same time. TRy it
I used to do this with my SP 1200 and my MPC 3000. Sadly the Midi dump/input feature was removed in the Vailixi OS for the 3000. You have some excellent tutorials on here, wish I would have found your channel sooner
Glad I came across this video. SMPTE was used to sync my sp1200 at the recording studios in the early 90's. However the engineer used to set it up and I couldn't remember how. Thanks bro. P.S. My OG sp1200 looks better than yours. LOL!!
thanks for the video ! If i add a bass synth to this set up using midi out n°2 on the 909. Is it possible to send different midi notes to it, or will it only respond to the same midi notes sent to the sp ?
Near the end of this video you mention another about "faithfully recording the SP1200 in your DAW"...I watched that video previously but can no longer find it. Do you have a link at all?
Yeah, it was taken down due to the barely audible music playing in the background.. so, I've reposted it on Facebook 🙏🏻 facebook.com/tonelab.tv/videos/123526907514592
This is so underrated about 909! I pair my 909 with S1000 and use track mode to quickly sequence chains of loop samples. Then I use a midi merger unit from Kenton to merge 909 midi signals with my midi keyboard into Alesis MMT-8 and overdub. So basically 909 can act as a step sequencer with a pretty flexible grid
thank you for the tutorial. i have my 909 hooked up to my sp1200 but am having some issues with what notes are being triggered. for instance note 2 on the 909 triggers D8 on sp1200,; note 3 on 909 triggers D2 on sp1200; note 4 triggers D7 and so on. completely random. even total accent is triggering a sound. i have a USB floppy emulator installed in the sp1200--. do you think this could be causing the problem?
yep, its original 909 and original sp1200. I was using midi channel 16 then i tried 11- same thing. what sp1200 bank is your 909 triggering. does it go in order down the pads?@@tonelabqt
You should always add a semitone to your next assigned sample as you move from knobs 1 to 16. So your first sample on BD1 will have original pitch set at C1, the next sample - C#1, etc. this should be done on the sampler not the 909
How would I take a hi hat from your 808 sample pack on B5 and copy it to D5? But have D5 editable? I tried, I basically deleted all the other sounds on the 808 pack but B5. Saved it to scratch.hfe, then copied B5 to D5. Then loaded B5 back onto itself. The copy isn’t being loaded. it’s just the link to B5 is being broken.
It's sorta the other way round. Save D5 to it's own Disk/Image. Load the 808 kit up, via Disk Module option #5. Then load D5 off the 'scratch' Disk/Image, via Disk Module option #6 👍🏻
@@tonelabqtI should have put it differently, it’s so simple , you are breaking the link when you copy a sound and then use option 6, so I copy B5 to D5 , if I load B5 again with option 6 I can edit D5.
@@tonelabqtconfusing is the load D5 part. How do I save just D5 to a scratch disk, there is no save sound option, only sounds. So I would have to delete the whole 808 sample pack to save D5 alone to the scratch disk right?
If you delete the original, in your case B5.. D5 will become 'solidified', as such. Then, 'Save' the entire kit to a scratch Disk/Image.. then load D5, off the scratch disk, via option #6 into a new project 👍🏻
Don't know how I missed this video from you or how I'm not subscribed already but I am now. You just helped me remember how to set up individual outs on mine. Keep up the great work on your channel 👊
How cumbersome is it to sequence 4 different midi instruments, I know the time is super tight , but have you tried and editing notes is easy ? Wish Akai X would get their converters sorted! Purchased your sound pack and loving it
Thank you, good to hear! Not that hard, but it does depend a lot on the configuration of the MIDI Instruments connected to it. PS. MPC3000 Deep Dive coming in 2024 🙏🏻
Great tutorial. So now we can change volume of notes in edit event track. Lets say we have 1/8 hihat , we can go there and change volume/velocity of every note seperate? This is great. Thank you !!!!
100%, ideally.. if you lay down the Hi-Hat, on it's own first.. you can, quite easily, cursor to the far left and skip over every 2nd hat.. and adjust it's Velocity, so the 'downbeat' sounds 'accented'... or, alternatively you can Copy a Key / Note and it's Velocity (by deleting it), then inserting it somewhere else.. so, technically.. you could build a Hi-Hat pattern from the Event Edit Track feature without even real-time recording it at all 👌🏻
Maaan! I need to pay for a couple of hours of sessions with you @ToneLab! I have several devices that I need to relearn and others that I need further understanding on! I own the TR-909, Akai S950, Akai MPC 60 II, MPC X, MPC Key 61 and I'm patiently waiting for my E-A-SKI SP1200SE!!!! 😉😎💯
If you use the Sequencer, you can record Samples into it, that will 'loop' the Samples for you.. and the Sequencer will play as long as you like.. but, out of the 3 Envelope modes it has, only 1 will Loop indefinitely.. which is what I'm demonstrating here. The newer (current range) MPCs have recently added an Envelope mode that does though 👍🏼
@@BeatsWreakEnt there was someone by the name of Zin Circuits doing them, but then I also hear there may be someone else doing them.. as some people claim the Zin Circuits had budget converters in them. So, I'm trying to figure out where the best options are and I'll include the details in the description for parts in the upcoming tutorial 👍🏼
I showed the SP1200 rear MIDI output going into the S900 MIDI input. Everything else is purely down to the 'Audio Outputs'. What you, or anyone else, can fit in their Mixer or Audio Interface doesn't really change the MIDI configuration demonstrated here. If you need more detail on both the SP1200 and S900/S950 for 'audio' then try the full tutorials over on the parent channel @tonelab 👍🏼
