Transfer Sounds & Sequences from the Emu SP1200 to Rossum SP-1200

In less than 5 minutes, I'll demonstrate how to Transfer Sounds & Sequences from the E-mu SP1200 across to the Rossum SP1200. All you need is a single MIDI cable and the Rossum Transfer Operating System diskette, that comes with the Rossum SP1200.

Is there a way to do this if you only have your floppies from the old SP and not the machine itself?

Yeah, if you have the 3.5" Disks.. you could source a Windows PC, with 3.5" Disk Drive.. and use OmniFlop to convert your SP Disks to Image Files. The Rossum can load image files of that nature 🙏🏻

If you can find OmniFlop for Mac, then I'm sure it could.. but, from what I understand.. OmniFlop is a Windows based app 🙏🏻

Great option from Dave Rossum! So it's basically a MIDI dump function updated to use with Rossum only or can it be midi dumped into Computer and somehow converted to HFE image file ? I use EMU SP1200 and purchased Floppy Disk USB emulator..but before installing in I am looking for a ways to convert my Floppy Disk collection into HFE files . Is there a way to do it ? Thanks in advance for any ideas🙏

There's a specific option to run, in the Rossum, to 'Receive Legacy Bank'. So, you could probably 'receive' the MIDI dump via computer.. but, I'd presume it would need the Rossum, to run the 'Receive Legacy Bank' function, to receive it. I don't know of a converter, at this time, that converts .sp12 to .hfe ...So, you could MIDI transfer the Sounds 'out' of your SP1200, but.. in terms of the Sequences you'd have to record the MIDI data via the MIDI output, into a DAW or something.. then re-record those parts back in to another SP1200.. not an easy method, but, 'a method' nonetheless. 👍🏼

@@tonelabqt thank you for reply - there is no easy solutuon at the moment for original SP1200 though there is a " hotswap" method of a installing a split cable that switches between the Floppy Disk Drive and the Gotek USB floppy emulator that way its possible to load old floppies into SP1200 memory first and then switch to Gotek and save the memory contents to Gotek. I m looking into this at the moment . Or another solution that claims to read Raw image files is Kryoflux or Greasewheazle floppy drive to usb converters ..than those images could be converted to HFE for Gotek..but I m not sure anyone use it successfully with SP1200. Thanks for your thoughts 🙏

Hi, do you know how to transfer hfe files to the rossum? I have a og sp1200 with sd card reader and looking to transfer my projects to the rossum. Thanks

The Rossum can load HFE's 🙏🏻

Yes I’ve read that it can. But when I put my sd card inside it from my og it says no card inserted?

Then it's possible your SD card is an unreadible 'format'. Transfer your HFE files to another SD card, formatted as FAT32 🙏🏻

@@tonelabqt if I buy some of your sounds for the E-mu Sp1200, do you send them on floppy disks? if not, could you do a video how to load them onto the E-mu after downloading from your website. My second questions is how much does it cost for your online tuition sessions? is it done thru zoom?

@@ginomakentino6719 oh, no problem.. yep, I've already done the video on 'How to Transfer Sounds via MIDI' (link below).. there's a little patience involved with MIDI transfers.. but, it's not that hard at all.. and there's also instructions that come with the MIDI packs. Further to that, the support email, is provided with each purchase.
