Ms.Gilbert’s voice like fine wine, improved with age. She sounded better in he later years.

My mother had this tape in her car. She saw Ronnie and Holly. Se loved them both….the music in “my mothers house” was so eclectic. Thanks to her for that openness to song.

Beautiful song. But this is the myth of the Sixties propagated by sellout baby-boomers.

I had the honor of playing host to Ronnie and Holly Near when they performed at my church in Oak Park. I drove them to and from their hotel to the church and made sure they were “fed and watered.” Also, the song was written by one of the children of my seminary president, Jack Stotts. So, I get all the feels when I hear this song. ❤❤❤ Holly harmonized with Ronnie on this one when they sang it at First United Church of Oak Park. It reverberated all over the sanctuary. Magical. Special place in my heart.

Omg, I’ve looked for this song for years after I saw a documentary on Phylis and Del Lyons. It was just a bit of it near the end. But it touched my heart and I looked for it ever since. The end credits of the doc were cut off so no song list. All I had to search was the lines I knew. I’m so happy.

I saw Ronnie perform this live at a club in Chicago in the late 1980s. An absolutely lovely song, one that I play often.

Today’s latte-sipping revolutionaries make a mockery of these ideals.

We need to TEACH them, Tom! <3

@@Margaret1448 I agree. However, it is so hard because of anti-democratic institutions like the Supreme Court and the US Senate--and the Fox News Earth 2 echo chamber. At least we have defeated Trump--that's a start. #Me Too and Black Lives Matter have to continue demonstrating peacefully in the streets--and WE NEED A NEW LABOR MOVEMENT!! This song is timeless and inspiring. And yes, we must teach them!

In their own way, they are lifting up the torch. They are fighting a militarized police, an extreme right wing bunch of conspiracy nuts, while trying to find jobs that pay enough to support families

They wouldn't have to if you had achieved anything back then.

@@ontellmichael1757you’re a damn fool. In the Sixties, progressives liked the independence of the Supreme Court

Come January 2020, it will be 60 years from the dawn of the 1960s and 30 years since the film "Berkeley in the Sixties" was made. Thank you for posting this beautiful song. And 'though each generation fears That it may be the last, Our presence here is witness To the power of the past. And just as we have drawn our strength From those who now are gone, Younger hands will take our work And carry on.

I was just posting this lovely song and quoting the very same lyric in urging that we trust the youth! <3

I just got done watching that! I looked through the credits to find the name of the song and who sang it. The torch has been passed to a new generation!
