Another couple of suggestions . It’s a good idea to go out with another boat because if you get swamped or an engine fails , you don’t want to be swimming in the middle of the bar hoping the coastguard can find you down there ! It’s a big area to search . Also going out on a 2 metre swell with a marginal forecast is asking for trouble . 3-4 metres is nuts .

How do compare and determine wich bar has the roughest conditions lol its depending on the weather on the day and the changes to the bar , the manukau is the most dangerous, because its narrow with alot of water going in and out of the bar and its shallow , its killed plenty of people even though all boaties know its dangerous and that they should be very careful , 15 foot tall triangular waves sitting there rolling on the out going tide and if your engine fails youll get swept into them and drowned, and when the tides coming in waves leap up at you ramping from off the bottom , waves moving from left to right at the same time , the water there is like if you ran with a bucket of water , wave squeezing each other pushing upwards and falling from undernearh you, try driving a boat over that

0:48 and thats where they went wrong,, always check the up coming weather, never take risks with the weather she'll be right can be she'll be at the bottom of the sea, usually the weather and conditions change after 2 pm , a sunny calm day but by 2 pm it clouds over the wind picks up and waves become closer together and angrier , speaking from experience here, been through alot of trouble on the water as a kid, 1:45 this guy doesn't sound so inteligent he's not even making sense, when he said they were side on to the swell they're not on the ball, dont have side on to the waves, at the least youll get sea sick then you cant concentrate properly to keep yourself safe, the safest option is stay on land your not a fish stay out of the sea

Hi Allan, thanks for watching! Just to clarify, our video celebrates who we are as Coastguard Tautiaki Moana without suggesting that everyone must speak Māori. Hope that helps clarify.

Been a coastguard member for 30 years. I would rather see our membership fees spent of actual services not a woke rebranding. Even the government has seen the cost of such nonsense and is clamping down on this unnecessary costs, new stationary, new signwriting etc etc. Just stick to the job you and our great volunteers have always done.

Kia ora @grantcooper8715 , this is all about making sure our organisation is future-proofed so that we can continue saving lives on the water for many years to come. Not one cent of your membership fees or the generous donations we receive have gone to this project. Your contributions continue to go direct to where they're needed most - our Units on the front line. We're doing this on a shoestring - no big brand budgets here, just the knowledge that in making the shift from being seen as an authority to boaties side by side on the water, we'll save lives because people won't be afraid to call for help.

YES I FEEL THE SAME ANOTHER 30 YEAR WET CREW THIS CHANGE SUCKS
@grantcooper8715

So if this is not funded from our membership and donations how is the costs being paid?? What does putting maori words on the website and I assume stationery, rescue vessels etc make Coastguard future proof, or better serve the boating public?? What about some mandarin, or hindi, or Samoan etc for those boaties??!!. My 30+ years of experience boating and coastguard membership, being rescued and rescuing I have never heard of anyone being scared of calling for help. Again I think this is wokeism gone crazy and the effort and cost is better directed elsewhere

On Auckland anniversary weekend I seen a charter boat cross the bar just past south spit. I was surfcasting of the northwestern point. In was a northerly and swell wasn’t very big maybe 1.5m. Has the south channel moved closer in?
