That was fun Ben. i know what to do with the Caro-Kann, avoid playing it like the plague, if anyone is cheeky enough to play it against you, punish them severely. It was only when i moved up to the North that i understood why the Northernmost part of Scotland is called Sutherland. Thanks mate.
Ya, we were in SE Sutherland the other week on a two-day road trip, start of the NC500. I will do the Caro against e4. @Lucan23 has suggested the Scotch Gambit as White, which I think is an excellent suggestion.
Hmm. Playing an opponent rated 480 and being so condescending. You ain't that good pal, far from it. Try watching Naroditsky playing lower rated opponents and his comments then learn a little humility yourself. This had to be said.
Hunty, great to see you back on youtube (which is just easy to access for us guys on here anyway watching other content etc). Great idea to do the speed run. PLEASE d o the detailed analysis on each game as you go.... THIS is where the value is, slow and steady
She can see far into the future. That king move was very unorthodox but works in calculations so she went for it. Humans doubt themselves and fall back on the general advice. I defeated her twice in a week, then decided I need to learn a bit of theory, came back and got devastated, she has counterplay humans do not play.
Nice to see you back Hunty. I think you reached your maximum potential at 1600, and it’s hard to get beyond that (I’m also stuck at 1600), so a change is always welcomed. Good luck on this journey
I think that, with discipline, I can get over 1700, as I have plenty of games with that estimate in analysis (quite a few over 2000). I just need to cut out the weaknesses.
I would like to see the marshall gambit. I do enjoy watching you play and even though you are tired I appreciate the video. Thank Chess Boot Camp for uploading
What beats my understanding is that I always see many GM's, IM's, FM's, NM's, CM's, 1600's -2000's play several opening lines as white where they are -0.5, -0.7 even up to -0.9 and then claim the opening is good/ok but they will trash 2. Qh5 which is a measly 0.0 or -0.3. It absolutely feels like a scam especially when the same players push others to play openings like "The Cow" among others with a similar evaluation. It follows that it feels like an excuse when the most popular justification to avoid 2. Qh5 is that the move allows black to have an OK poistion which is the same case with over 75% of the other sidelines that are recommended. Even in reverse with Black, people recommend openings like the Scandinavian which allows for early queen moves/ attacks with questionable evaluations but are considered good.
Glad to see you back Hunty you're looking well. The lower levels are funny as people tricks that you just forget about. I think you should do the caro kann as black and as white just develop naturally e4 get the knights and bishops out. Don't think you need an opening as white in early stages just natural opening moves
Sitting here late at night, very tired during my first night in this latest run. figured watching you playing tired chess was more fun than playing tired chess myself. I was not wron Ben. Thanks mate.
g5 and f5 are horrible moves. Better earlier is c5 pawn break to free the f8 bishop if the pawns are exchanged. That is probably why the engine earlier recommended Be3 to prevent the c5 pawn break.
I play Bird's Opening, and I like it. Of course, if you play Bird's Opening, you have to know how to deal with Black'a gambits (From's and Langheld), in which case you'll be fine. This video is a good heads up for White.
I agree with @howardkay1876. You should stick to one opening and quit unsound gambits. Also, you can improve a lot by doing puzzles (on lichess). Please make a video dedicated to solving puzzles at least once
Thanks for the great content. It was a gift! Very fun and entertaining. You certainly don't need to feel you owe anything to your fans. We owe you our gratitude. Take good care of yourself. All the best.
Well brother… At the end of the day some income has to be made. Very understandable that you’ll be making less chess content. Are your plans of making content on substack still on?
Been following you since you had a pony tail! You got me back into chess after not playing since college. Sorry to hear the news bit I hope you will pop in every once in a while, I wont be unsubscribing. Best of luck with your new endeavors Ben!
95% dark chocolate bars are healthier than the 100% per a nurse's tip. The blood sugar levels are lower, not sure why but kind a odd about the twist, less is more!
You'll find a lot of this in my games as well. At my age I find I can play brilliantly for about an hour. Any longer and the quality of play quickly diminishes. In my case at least, I have to admit it sounds like mental fatigue.
Seriously, don't put too much stock in those accuracy ratings. So much depends on the complexity of the game and the power of your opponent's play ... it's not a great indicator.
Thanks for that upload Ben. if you see chessacademy from yesterday or the day before, how to avoid 50%of your blunders this kind of explains how one gets long term problems. the blunder is one thing, but those blunders happened by choosing the wrong long term plan, or rather chossing no long term plan. Ok take care my friend.
