I am a retired professional railroader. I spent almost 37 years in the industry. I have been a fan of Railroads, Railroading, and Railroaders since I was a child. Much of my online Videos, involve Trains and Railroads. I am also an O Gauge Three Rail aficionado.
I am also a Muscle Car enthusiast and occasionally post some videos about my Camaro and some of the Trips I have taken with it.
I hope you enjoy what I have posted on RU-vid! Thanks for taking a look and hopefully I brought some enjoyment your way!
What train line in logansport is that that the old Pennsy? Does it still get traffic coming through there or is that that Canadian Pacific that comes out of Rensselaer then comes through logansport now? I was just curious
Did you know that the sounds on the Big Boy are the exact same sounds on the Lionel C&O 1601 Allegheny? These sounds have been re-used twice in other articulated engines.
yeah it didn't give me a chance to finish I've been found at the last few years cuz I ain't in shape. I need to start walking or bicycling more. I hope to go and follow it this year but I've been saying that the last two or three years.
yeah starting back in 2010-11 and 13 maybe another time I was chasing that on my bicycle. it only goes around 15 or so miles per hour and they made a bike trail out of the old Interurban line. I ready for got my camera and send it gets with me I start following and taping it just like people do on the highways. lol
By the time the train, called or referred to as the Quad Cities Rocket ran, between LaSalle Street Station and 30th Street Station in Rock Island, IL, the original beautiful Rocket paint scheme beautifully done on these locos was but a memory. The QCR was decrepit looking train run by a railroad that was so broke, it couldn't pay to join Amtrak and dump the train.
Apparently, the state of Illinois kicked in funding to keep this train and the Peorian or "Peoria Rocket" operating up until the last day of passenger service for the two trains on December 31, 1978.
Did you hear about the Rock Island GP7 they're doing at IRM? Ex CNW 4160 Exx CRIP 4506! Its gonna be cool, and whenever I think about it I think of that song :) nice video!
Actually, you might want to study up on the operating rules. As long as the Engineer of the following train is able to stop in half the distance of his visual range he is allowed to do that by operating rule. So it isn't a collision waiting to happen. (Hint, I scored 98% on my operating rules tests when I was working for the railroad, up until the time I retired four years ago.)
for those butthurt over the title. he uses the word Marxist in a way similar to merriest which is a superlative adverb. superlative means "highest quality or degree" meaning this video is the highest degree of marx trains. so stfu haters and turn those dislikes into likes.
Very funny, comade! I think we'll both take Louis Marx over Karl Marx. Man, that steam engine puts out great smoke! Marx trains are very underrated. Thank you for posting great trains with a sense of humor (something sorely lacking from a lot of unhappy people in this world of ours.)
I guess the residents especially around the railroad park were tired of the train horns but the noise from the locomotives and the trains hammering across the diamond is just as noisy maybe not as loud.
Thomas: There is a volume control under the cab. On the Right Side of the locomotive. You will need a small flat blade screwdriver to adjust. Turn the engine over and swivel the front truck. You should see the control. Here is a link to the Instruction manual from Lionel for this train set. The instructions for adjusting volume are on page 15.:www.lionelsupport.com/media/servicedocuments/6498730179250RIRocketSet.pdf
Thanks! I thought so but it appears that mine is malfunctioning. I turned it all the way down and it was still loud. Then I turned it up just a little and it got quiet. After running for 5 minutes it mysteriously jumped back up to full volume. I'm just gonna put masking tape on the speaker perforations.
Was in Rochelle Yesterday (08/20/2016), the Quiet Zones have not been put into effect yet. The work has been completed on the crossings and the signs are still covered until put into effect. Get your videos and audio recordings as I am sure this will change soon.
They need the horns there. It gets rid of half the fun without them. Why did they even make the quiet zones if so many railfans show up at the park? I wanted to go there sometime, but I'll think I'll pass now.
Having spent many hours at Rochelle, it is a bit of a disappointment that this is coming to pass. I can understand local residents, getting a bit put off by all the noise. It's a way society is going nowadays. With the huge number of trains passing through town at all hours, one can readily understand their frustration. However, with this wonderful site to watch trains, it is still a "must see" for railfans. They have a radio feed into the shelter as well as ATSC monitor in the gift shop. So you won't fly blind here. Likewise, there is Wi-Fi available at the park so one can run their own ATSC Monitor to catch train movements through the area.
I worked for the RI from 1973 till the end, i worked on the 630 many many times, i loved that E6 she was the last E6 6 still in operation at that time. thanks for sharing that's a great looking setup. Brings back allot of memories for me.
+Glenn Edburg I loved the old E-6's. They were sleek and looked fast standing still. I only wish I had been able to take more pics of the 630, back in the day. Just never occurred to me back then. I was too young to appreciate such things. Oh well, at least I have my Lionel Beauties in place of those photos. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you!
I was engineer both days from Peru to Lafayette and back, my wife was the Conductor. Very very hot in the cab but worth it. Hope N.S. keeps the steam program
Good Job in Peru we might Have been Standing Next to each other you can see my Camara was just on the Left I just got my Video finish what a man take about a hot day but the chase was worth it!!
An old friend, Harry Dolan, from here in Lafayette IN, worked on 765 in the late 1960's and early 1970's, when the volunteer crew was restoring her for service again. His descriptions of the hard physical work of refluing her boiler stick with me still. Harry died suddenly of a massive heart attack in the early 1970's, before 765 was ready to roll again. I still think of Harry every time I view one of these videos. Another friend from 50 yrs ago comes to mind as well, Anthony "Tony" Koester, who was an early booster of interest in the Nickel Plate Road when he was a student at Purdue University, and a surveyor here in Lafayette--later to become the long time editor of Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine--an absolute NKP fanatic.
