When you said -"mabe this thing is not losened up enough..." And screwed the cap that covers steamvalve in the center of the gauges. I wondered what does that change if you didnt completely unscrew it and didnt press that stem valve? Does this guy really know what he is doing? Im not a pro at this but just using abit of commonbsense I would vacuum my recovery tank as well as the machine with all hoses. Before starting. And would use that same stemvalve under that cap to release the air from hoses connected to the car.
How did you de-commission your original pool filtration system? I want to convert my chlorine swimming pond into a natural pond. I'm not clear how to convert the large sand filter to something appropriate for pond use. Also in series with the filter is the pump which I presume should remain to move water through the system and drive the water fall. Any ideas on the filter conversion would be appreciated. Thanks!
I simply stopped using the pump, it saves 1.4 kWh of energy. If I ever want to go back, it should start right up, as nothing is permanent. In your case, I would simply stop adding chlorine & any other chemicals. Keep the filtering system if you want clear circulating water for a natural swimming pool. Otherwise, it will look more like mine, with some cloudy & murkiness just like a natural pond should be. I would also recommend at the end of the dry season to fully drain the pool, scrub down the sides, & vac out all powdery debris. Then refill with 100% rain water for a clean reset. It's a big mistake that I've made that is showing up on episode #10.

I've always seen it as the best 2nd use of HV batteries out of an higher mileage or crashed EV. The trick is open sourced software along with the hardware for a proper connection to the grid or solar. Or a company needs to develop the software & hardware as a kit without the batteries included. Hopefully, we'll have this option soon!
Nice seat mod. Would the opposite fold be possible? slide the seat forward, remove the headrest and posts, and then modify to fold the seat all the way back to the level of the back seat. BTW my toyota matrix had a front seat that folded. I loved it. I had a full 8ft of flat space.
Thanks. I looked at all options, which is why I modified it. The seat does not fold back to flat no matter what. It might come close with the rear seat removed. The headrest is easy to adjust up/down, but not easy to remove. It's defiantly not a Honda Fit or Toyota Matrix on cargo flexibility.
I have been watching all your episodes for a while now and I enjoy it so much! You should totally get a group of koi or goldfish for your large pond to help manage bugs and begin to balance the ecosystem. Also I would look into getting floating plants such as water lettuce or water hyacinth. While they are tropical and will most likely die over the winter; they do grow very fast and absorb access nutrients and provide shade. If you add some to your larger pond and let it expand it will greatly help. One of the general rule of thumb when having a Clearwater pond is to cover about 40% of it with shade because the main things green microalgae lives off of is access nutrients and sunlight which plants can provide both of especially the floating plants. Also one of the best places I have found for learning how to get clear water is a channel called Ozponds. One last tip I have is a high quality UV light. By having a UV light it prevents the alage from growing by sterilizing it. You just need to make sure it is a good quality one and that the bulb is still working after a year. Thank you for your kind words & hope you continue to follow the evolution. We did experiment with both the water lettuce & water hyacinth back in the beginning. Water hyacinth was my favorite flourishing plant until it became a rapidly dying plant last August. Also, there is a UV light in the fountain. There has been some very interesting recent developments in regards to all things mentioned here, coming up in episode #10.
I bought some, the one with the alarm and light. They seemed to work but they did not charge very well and finally just stopped charging altogether. They are as low as $16.00 now but they did not last very long.
What do you think about installing the Koni red, which is supposed to be softer than the yellow? Also, do you think that these would fit on a 2023 Chevy EUV? Last question do you think or what do you think about the Beilstein shocks instead of the Koni? my car is definitely driving wonky it feels like the shocks and the rare are not even working.
All of the Bolts are running the same basic platform. The EUV variant is riding slightly higher, has smaller rear seat area, larger storage area, different styling, & nicer options. Weight is greater and the OEM EUV rides noticeably softer than my '17. I don't see any reason why the Koni's or Bilstein's wouldn't work. They are both great brands with a long history of producing high quality products. Mine are continuing to work great on the softest setting with no need to adjust anything. The OEM fronts are doing fine as well. Those rears are defective from the start on all Bolts. I believe the only reason it's not called out more often is because some people don't carry as much cargo or people as others... and thus don't have the problem. You should be able to have those replaced for free under warranty on 2023 model. Also, the rear beam axle seems to get itself out of alignment as well. I have video on fixing that for a few bucks vs a few grand. Blown shocks and out of alignment will make a car drive very wonky.
You're so close to having the perfect setup. You could fill the top with pea gravel and plant the plants in it while pumping water up from the pool, creating a huge natural filter and the plants will grow crazy.
That was the original plan and still is the general direction we are going. We had issues earlier on in the early episodes that side tracked us a bit. It keeps evolving.
Why did they make these car chargers so difficult I like this one cuz it's not Wi-Fi and you can turn it off but when you try to look stuff up like that it won't go to it they only go to and not explain anything the internet does not do anything anymore itself or go where you don't want to do you know how to look up these Chargers and other brands that have an on and off switch that has no Wi-Fi
What is the black wire and the gizmo toward the middle of the seat that is covered with your blanket? Can that be safely moved out of the way to make a platform there? Is it safe to put weight on it. Looks like it could be damaged with anything heavy on it, and of course the wires are a concern. Is that a weight sensor?
Yeah, I've been wondering about that myself. I can't find it in the manual either. We know the HV battery service disconnect is the larger device towards the front under the rear seats. But, the little magic marker size thing under the rear seat back, which is visible with the rear seats in as well, is kind of a mystery. I would leave it alone.
My tire pressure readings not showing now after disconnecting battery and then the seat wiring. Wonder if it will come back on? LOL, bloodied a knuckle trying to disconnect that harness connector. Pretty stiff.
Sorry to hear about the knuckle. Maybe the passenger seat wiring connector is not fully in. I am not sure where the TPMS controller box is located on this car. Usually, it's in the back corner near either wheel. I don't think it would be near the seat. Possibly power supply is flowing thru that connector to the TPMS box located elsewhere in car. Double check that wiring connector!
Thank you for sharing this! I've been looking to replace the 12V AGM battery in my bolt with a LifePO4 battery for some time and was concerned with the battery that I chose to fit in the tray. Now that I see how its held together, I can make my own out of ABS plastic and insulate the new box to keep the LifePO4 insulated during the colder months! Thank you! 🎉
I carry 8-foot lumber in my 2017 Bolt quite often. I just fold down the driver's side of the rear seat, wrap a heavy blanket around the front end of the lumber, and then feed it diagonally through the hatch so the front end sits on the dash just above the glove compartment.
I also have the 2017 Orange Burst Bolt EV ! I'd love to do this mod to mine, and i would gladly except your extra green LED light strip for the project =) Go ahead and send it to Tennesse for me? =) Great tutorial =)
Did you not hear what you said?? It is a safety feature for the benefit of pedestrians. If this is not illegal (and it certainly should be) it is incredibly self-centered.
