How do people get drag parents? It always seems like people start drag after they have a parent and then there's me over here, just going alone at open stages lmao
It's very different for everyone. I didn't have an official drag parent when I started. It's been 7-8 years since I started doing drag but only recently (this past February) got asked by Rock to be her daughter. Some people see an existing drag performer that resonates with them and adopt them then, others have friends who say they want to start doing drag so they claim them as their kid before they start doing drag (which is the situation with my drag daughter). If you want a drag parent tho, there's definitely never any shame in just asking to be someone's drag kid. But if you want to do that I say definitely ask someone who you relate to a lot whether that be in aesthetics, performance style, or just someone who you vibe well with 😊
Technically, I was a drag mum but it was terrible, and he only did drag twice. I do also have biological children and fur babies. I can say that fur babies are the easiest.

I've only peformed once in drag (my debut and retirement LMAO), and that night I performed was also the same night/show that many other legendary local divas birthed their drag children so they all had their debut performances alongside their drag moms and I was just a little drag orphan like 🧍♀️hahahhaa Also, I'm also an afab queen (i prefer just calling myself a drag queen tbh!) , but my mom was against it and disappointed... she was whining about why was i gonna perform in drag and I was like UM , I grew up in band and colorguard, and I I've been cosplaying since 2004 since i was 13 like..... putting on silly outfits and wigs and performing is literally nothing new for me 😂
Oh wow, I have such a similar story, my dad didn't want me doing drag. I had already been thinking about doing it for while at that point so when he told me that, that was when I knew I should do it. I hid it from him for 3 years (which was very easy since we don't live in the same city), but when I finally told him by showing him one of my performances, he became very supportive after that. I grew up dancing and performing so once he actually saw the way I express myself in drag it totally made sense to him
