Hello! My name is Steve and I love to travel and explore the country in my minivan camper (The Manivan). At the beginning of 2022 I decided that I wanted to start documenting my trips better for my future self. This is my attempt at that… For anyone else watching, enjoy! 😊
What an incredible video !!! it’s such a pretty place. Thank you for making this video… I’m just getting into hiking and I started late in life. I don’t have a confidence to backpack but maybe I’ll get it if I start buying the gear😂
@@rschreck876 Yeah they do, but when it is colder out, they cool off pretty quickly. I usually bring a little towel or something to grab the pot handles if it’s hot.
We have been there many times and you have made the best video of the hike I have ever seen. People can get a very good idea of what the hike is like, as far as you went. Good job. PS: don't worry about bears there.
@@thomaswayneward Thank you so much for the kind words! I was just there again this past June actually. Easily one of my favorite backpacking destinations! My goal is to capture these places as I am seeing them the best I can, so I appreciate that feedback more than you know! Cheers! 🤙🏼
The kind words are very much appreciated! I’ll pass the message along! If you’d like to check out more of their music, I just put the Spotify link in the description. Thanks again for the support! 🤙🏼
@@HavenTents Thank you so much! It can get overwhelming at times, but it’s worth it lol Would love to try out one of your hammock tents someday too btw! They look super comfy!
Hello friend !!! Day 1 was the most epic of all !!! ( except for the shhhhells left😢 ) I am familiar ❤ with the Winds. But not ur entry point. Btw, luv ur 1st tent pitch !!!!!. Just to feel that would be well worth the drive $. Its criminal at prices😢now !!!! Thanks 😊
@@tracykooken2606 Definitely worth the drive! Can’t really go wrong in the Winds, but I did find a really cool spot to pitch my tent on the first night. That was just such a beautiful view to wake up to! Thanks for watching! 🙂
@@rschreck876 Actually it is the Kakwa 40 that uses the ultra 200 fabric, but I just sold it and bought the Kakwa 55. The 40 is a beast and I absolutely love the pack, but I just wanted a bit more space to pack some extra comfort items or for winter trips. The 55 uses ultra 200X fabric, which feels very similar, but is supposed to be even stronger. I haven’t used it yet, but they made some nice improvements to these newer models, like a much larger front mesh pocket and they redesigned the shoulder straps and hip belt slightly to be even more comfortable (It was already a very comfy pack). The pockets are my only minor complaint because they don’t wrap around the hips very nicely when they are stuffed full, but they did increase the size of the pockets and I don’t usually have them full anyway. They are still pretty spacious and can be zipped and unzipped with one hand easily, so it is a very minor complaint. Some people don’t like that there is no back ventilation, but that isn’t an issue for me at all and my back sweats pretty much the same as it would with my REI Flash 55. Other than that, it is the perfect pack for me personally. I highly recommend it!
@@Shmack555 Thank you so much! I’m using the Durston Kakwa 40 pack and the Durston X-Mid 1 tent. I HIGHLY recommend both, but I did recently change to the 55 L version of this pack so I have more space for winter or shorter comfort trips. Relatively affordable as far as high end, ultralight backpacking gear goes and amazing performance!
@@coffeecake8835 Some trails will have little piles of rocks to look out for called cairns that mark the trail, but I always download a GPS track of the trail to follow on my phone using the AllTrails app
@@coffeecake8835 Yep! It’s kinda like Google Maps for hiking. You can search the area you are in (as long as you have cell service) to find new trails or you can make your own GPS track, then download the maps to your phone to use when you are in the backcountry with no cell service. I never hike without it!
beautiful man, I camped at photographers point, island lake and Titcomb basin on my last trip (vid on my channel). Its been 3 years and excited to say I will be back in September attempting the high route. That was a nice moose catch! I had a similar experience last you in CO. Giant animals! Great vid, thanks for sharing. Subbed.
@@SoloSchmitty Thanks for kind words and support! Gave you a sub as well. Yeah, this range is easily one of my favorite places. That moose scared the crap out of me! Haha I don’t hike in Grizzly country often, but when I do, I am a bit paranoid about grizzlies, so anything like that really gets my heart racing. Lol I walked by a deer that was right next to the trail about 5ft away from me last time I was in the Winds and had the same reaction. I guess it’s good that my natural reaction is to freeze and stand my ground and not run away in case it does end up being a griz! 😂
@@ManivanAdventures Agreed on the Grizzly. I did a trip in Montana a couple years back in the Beartooths and had some grouse blow up in front of me in some deep woods. I thought my time had come... Keep up the good work and thanks for the sub!
Epic hike and great video! I am scheduled to go there myself at the end of August. I would love to set up my tent in Titcomb Basin itself, as you did, but I didn't see any trees in the video on which I could hang my bear bag. I don't want to lug the additional weight of a bear canister on my back for the length of a multi-day hike. If I had to guess, that's one of the reasons why most people set up camp at Seneca Lake, from which they do day hikes to Titcomb Basin without their packs and tents. But I have to admit that I think you scored a huge bonus in setting up your tent in the basin itself. But the bear canister gave you that flexibility.
@@dontbeadrone Understandable to not want to carry the canister weight. It honestly kills me that my canister alone is one of the heaviest items in my pack haha Luckily my other stuff is pretty lightweight. I also found that I just really love the convenience of the canister (especially as a late night snacker) and I find myself still taking it on trips with plenty of spots to hang a bag. As far as places to hang a bear bag in the Basin… I’m 99% sure that isn’t happening lol BUT there are trees at Island Lake, just before the Basin. It is a very popular camping spot though and there were quite a few people there when I hiked through, so I chose to try for a much more secluded spot in the Basin. It looked like people were camping on top of each other at Island Lake, so I have to strongly recommend camping in the Basin if you can make it work! Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your hike! This one was easily one of my favorites!
@@jeffreyvasquez3911 It was! Lol I actually just got back from a trip back there last week and the snow made it even more challenging! But totally worth it!
Thanks. My buddy and I are planning a hike on Teton crest trail in late Aug to Sept. bout 4 nights. What size would you recommend? Thanks for the quick response.
Awesome! That sounds amazing! I would probably recommend the BV450 for that. It’s the next size up from what I use for 2 or 3 nights. One good tip is to store your food for the first day outside of the canister too if you need a little more space, since you will obviously eat that food anyway and will only have to worry about storing the garbage. Have a great trip!
Amazingly beautiful. I'm from New England, which is beautiful and lush, but my visit to NV, AZ, CA, OR and UT was wonderful. UT is indeed the most beautiful. Bryce is incredible, too. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
I’m from MI, so we have some beautiful landscapes here, especially with the Great Lakes, but everything out west is so dramatically different and I’m obsessed. Lol I have to agree that UT has some of the most incredibly beautiful rock formations/colors and is also one of my favorites. I have only made a few quick stops at Bryce, but I think I’m going to stop there again to do an actual hike in a couple weeks, but still doing some last minute planning. Can’t really go wrong out there lol Thanks for watching! 🙂
What a great adventure! Really like the transitions and feel of this vid with the incredible landscapes and your chill vibe. Makes me want to go back and check out so much of the Park that I haven't seen yet. Thanks for posting up!
Excellent video and great photography. Watching on large screen 4K OLED and it's almost like being there!. It's not just the terrain either I can see every shade in the clouds in the sky. Great work.
@@steveobrien8148 Wow, thank you so much! 🙂 I was really struggling with my newish editing software and spent hours and hours trying to figure out how to get the colors/exposure right, so you have no idea how happy I am to hear that! Lol Thanks for watching!
Such a cool video and epic adventure! Thank you for capturing all this beauty and sharing. If I may ask, how might someone deal with leg-cramps on a long hike like this? Thank you
Thanks for the kind words! It really is an amazing place. One or my favorites! The best advice I would have for cramps would be to stay hydrated and get those electrolyte drink mix packets. Electrolytes are great at helping you stay hydrated and are really good for the muscles. LMNT is a bit pricey, but they’re great because they have no sugar in theirs. You can usually find Liquid IV for a great deal at Costco too, if you don’t mind the added sugar (I think you can still order it online without a membership). Also, do some stretches before starting your hike and take plenty of short breaks along the way to do some more quick stretches and eat a snack. That should help! Thanks for watching and happy hiking! 🤙🏼
@@ManivanAdventures Hell yeah, I hope you have a GREAT time in June and PLEASE make sure to post that video! I hope you RU-vid channel grows and prosper $$$! Have a great weekend my man :)
It really is! I did this last minute with little research, so I had no idea it would be completely frozen like it was. It was so beautiful! I plan on stopping by in June to see it when it’s running too. Thanks for watching! 🙂
I love your videos! You have inspired me to try a hike like this. Is late august the best time to hike the wind river to avoid crowds and thunderstorms!
Thank you so much! Happy to hear it! This mountain range is incredibly beautiful! As far as the best time to go, I’m honestly not entirely sure. I have been there twice so far, both times in late Aug/Sept and the weather was perfect. Though, a guy I talked to on his way out said it rained all 5 days he was out there, so maybe I just got lucky. Lol Some of the more popular spots can get a little crowded with campers (Island Lake, for example), but I never really had an issue finding my own little piece of paradise out there. I’m pretty sure Aug/Sept is peak hiking season in the Winds, but try to avoid weekends and I don’t think you should have any issues. Good luck and have fun! 🤙🏼
I can’t help but think of how you found a spot to set up the camera to hike past it then have to come back to get the camera then rehike back up to continue the trail. I know your up and down the same path 3-4 times trying to set these shots up haha, looks really good though! Worth the effort!
It’s a pretty popular trail, but it has never felt particularly crowded when I’ve been there. Parking can get tricky sometimes, but that’s the same with most trails in the area.
