My mom has 23 year old fish in a bowl in her freezer. She said it's still good because it was covered with water. I'm thawing it out and it looks orange and white in most places. Will it be tasty? I hate to waste ingredients if it's going to be bad.
And I don't have no need for gloves always take a second look at the tip of the fish knife blade before cutting or scrapping or pushing through to the other side. I Never cut the fillet from the fish. Just Fold the fillet back towards the rear tail still attached to the fish then , spin the fish so the filet lays out on the table ready for you to cut the filet from the skin use the fish to keep a good grip and hold of the fish. This way you will get more fish meat with the fillet. Use your tips of couple fingers to help hold the fillet down by the flap of skin flipped to the tail a bit while gripping the fish. I used my first 2 finger tips (pointer and middle finger) you will barely leave any meat and have a very good grip of the fish and fillet attached. Doing this a few times and you will be like a filleting machine. Our family would go fishing as family gathering and reunion camping trip with several boats for white bass and catch quite a few fish over several days of fishing. And you learn even as a kid to be a master at filleting a fish......Now on catfish filets to get rid of the fishy taste. Just use the tip of the fish knife and cut the little fat in the middle of the catfish fillet and just do a little V cut down the middle where the spine of fish runs, Don't push hard you the knifes sharpness to do the job, you will see the light color meat of the catfish filet that's the fat! And now you have a clean catfish filet that can cook with no or barely and fish taste from a catfish filet. Try cooking in a big fry pan with little bit of olive oil wiped around to help with the sticking and some butter to cook your catfish in and brown lightly and done flip and same light brown, time to eat. This removing the fat from the middle of fillet can be done to store bought catfish filets too. Light color meat of fillet is the Fat , remove it and now clean catfish. Yummy Catfish!👍
Thank you , i wish i watched this sooner , great tip for next time , I just froze some halibut fillets, just rinced in fresh water and tried as best I could to get the air out of the bags , I'll definitely try your tips next time
You sure wasted a lot of good belly meat with plan. And if you cut the head off in then you can fry that backbone for the meat that's on it too. Cut the top spur off and you're good to go!...👍
I dont really like the taste of fish. But it's good to know how to clean them. I love fishing. I hate cleaning them. But I never have to clean them, cause I dont eat them.
Some of the catches I’ve been getting I used for bait some had worms in it I got some cat in the freezer not sure if it has worms or not do I gut that out ? Or what should I do?
