This wasn’t very realistic for patients who are unable to turn by themselves. It would be more helpful if you used a real patient rather than a model who is perfectly healthy.
I get you, but I used the patient's aide for privacy reasons. In addition, every patient is different. After all, some can not clutch the bed rail with contracted hands, and some have flailing legs. Teaching how to use the lift was my primary intent. If the person you are caring for can not help you at all, by all means, you need another person to help you for you and the patient to be safe.Take care! 😊
My mother coughs after eating and drinking . She had pneumonia but they don’t know she has dementia as she fools everyone. She’s with me now and I see and hear it and it’s very concerning because in her mind she thinks it’s post nasal drip . Refuses a swallow test and any other tests . Thank you for this video . I myself was diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus but I don’t have a problem swallowing but I am on medication for the reflux.
Hello Kristin. Yes, she really needs that swallow test, unfortunately, and it doesn't take much to do as it is not invasive. Have you done a mini mental state exam on your mom? I'm not sure she would cooperate but would give you a score to help you determine if there is demand and the degree of it. You can download the form online. Oh and please subscribe!!
She refuses everything and her primary told me something bad will happen and that’s when I can say and do something. For now it’s her right to refuse . It’s hard that I have to wait but she knows her rights and I can’t physically force her . I did my research and believe she’s at stage 6 dementia
@@caregiversuccessbynancytheNP I can’t even get her to her primary but I called him as he knows me and my concerns. She’s now shuffling her feet and has a very hard time walking and refuses a Walker . Her incontinence is so bad she will sit in her diaper wet for hours . How she hasn’t had a uti it’s unbelievable. She refuses to bathe . Her primary told me she knows her rights and it’s going to take something to happen for me to get the help I need for her .
Hi, sorry u are dealing with that! Ok, so, once you do the cleaning, apply the steri strips and follow my directions, cover your dressing with even a cast cover, which you can buy for an arm in most medical supply stores. It will keep your dressing dry in the shower. Let me know if that helps you. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!!! Ring the 🔔
Thanks for this video. Just to be clear, that lady doesn’t really have a skin tear? You simulated it with a piece of Saran Wrap to represent the place where skin was torn off, and colored it with marker to represent blood? Or should we put Saran Wrap on an open wound and tape it on?
Hi there! No, she didn't have a skin tear.I simulated it with a seran rap and marker you are correct! Just follow along with the cleansing, Steri strips, etc. Please subscribe!!
My husband is in this fight , this is very encouraging to me. Howard this makes sense to me but my husband is so depressed if it wasnt for his faith i am afraid he would just leave. How do i find out what we can do the meds dont help anymore!
Did you ever feel the meds helped? We try to tell a family member of ours maybe we can try something new but they are worried about it conflicting with the medication
Hi Howard, thankyou for giving me some hope. I have had Parkinsons for 12 years and am now unable to walk or even stand due to Parkinson dystonia in both feet. perhaps you could advise me where I should start as even a small improvement in my symptoms would be most welcme. Please let me know how I can get a copy of your book. Many thanks Sue Wood
I like it how the patient does the turning by herself, even grabbing on to the rail. Try making that demonstration on a paralyzed person; wrestling deadweight who weighs 130 lb, but feels like 300lb. Obviously you've never done that. If you have a method, please show us.
Thank you for your comment, I understand your frustration. Yes, this is purely demonstration, but sometimes, in my experience, it has taken 2 people or more to turn and change a person. In that case, someone could help with turning from the other side using the draw sheet for leveraging. Hope this helps. 🙏
Hi there! A fork is like a whisk, which separates the thickener to reduce clumping. Spoons do not do the job well. Hope that helps. Please subscribe! 😊😊
Great educational video. I suggest bringing the wheelchair to the patient in the hoyer lift once she is away from the bed rather than moving the Patient in the hoyer lift across the room. The less you have to push a patient in a hoyer lift, the safer the transfer.
Thank you for your comment. The reason the wheelchair is across the room is because the transfer was done with one person assist. By propping the wheelchair against the wall, it eliminated the need for another other person to hold the wheelchair from tipping. Best case scenario is having another pwrson to assist you.
