I never had FS2020 encryption files until Asobo's update 1.37.19.0 auto installed June 18, 2024, release notes stated: No Content - No Fixes???? Why Microsoft Simulator does not notify users FIRST before they automatically download updates is beyond their intelligence. The reason is these updates will MESS-UP the simulator files after it reboot/restarts. THEY TELL USER IN THE RELEASE NOTES to uninstall ALL Community Folder content prior to 'their auto-update' or it will mess-up user's sim. Duh... an option to delay these updates (until user has moved community content) would be appropriate!! THANK YOU ASOBO

That would be epic but unlikely in my opinion. I left out the obvious two biggest things from the video which are performance, and better physics because those are less features and more the underlying sim architecture. But I agree, if you could give me zero stutters in MSFS2020 I would be happy for eternity 🙂

For me, the most important thing is improving the camera system and giving developers the needed access to simulate pilot head and body movement (g-force effects), such tools are so popular in ALL other platforms becuase they are extremely immersive, MSFS's camera system is an epic failure, complicated and limited at the same time!!, I can't comprehend how something like this is still missing after almost 4 years!!
@CaptainChairbus
@CaptainChairbus 9 дней назад
The number one reason I didn't leave X-plane until 2023 was due to the camera system in MSFS2020. To be honest, I learned to like the MSFS2020 system after many months, but it is still lacking some massive features. Complicated and limited are good adjectives to describe the system in MSFS, hopefully Parallel42 has been able to lobby them to open the camera API.

1 Better vr support, hand tracking and vr controller support. 2 Walk around! How cool would it be to be able to inspect your vehicle? 3 more SDK editing options. I want to be able to do time runs and have the capability to make ringed check points. Imagine recreating the topgun maverick cayon run! 4 ( this one is more of a fairy tale wish) Google maps support. 😆 5 (the best for last) real aircraft damage!! I want to see that engine on fire, and be able to land on water, Actual bird strike, I want to recreate what capn Sully did! 😆.

Looking forward to see what improvements they can make for VR users for sure. Walk around also would be great, maybe even more interaction with exterior elements, like removing covers etc. Google maps is definitely a fairy tale, haha! I don't know if damage effects are a top priority since I prefer uneventful smooth flights, but if you like doing failures and that sort of training then I can definitely see damage modeling being an exciting feature.

Good video, thank you. Stumbled upon this as one of the many "headless chickens" !! trying to reduce stutters or micro pauses. I will not be upgrading my PC until after MSFS 2024. I will be curious if Asobo can really make a new flight sim that has none of these micro pauses, stutters. I will hold my breath on that one !!. Currently I use my good ol' trusty steam-punk GPU, yes the ubiquitous RTX 2080Ti, (famous for its launch in 2018 at a ridiculous price !). It has an overclock and has served me very well from FSX to this current edition of MSFS 2020. I ususally cap my frames to 35FPS in Nvidia control panel. In the sim I set DX11, TAA, with my screen resolution for Ultrawide mpnitor 3440x1440. TLOD at 100, OLOD 95. I turn traffic down. And reduce ships, boats, vehicles down to a lower setting. Not really interested in those as I am flying. They may add to the ground ambience etc, but I prefer a smooth Sim. So I keep flying the same flight for hours if not days !! yup trying to iron out exactly what and where and why I get these micro pauses in the Sim. I fly from Milford sound in New Zealand to Christchurch RWY 02, in my fav Chancellor 414 from FlySimware, ( an excellent addon). Currently on a good Nvidia driver 552.44, very stable. I tried 555.85, was ok but 555.99, hmmm not good ! for me at least. So I am not a software eng, so forgive me if I am speaking complete bxxllocxks !, but not only do these over extravagant airports with a crazy amount of detail cause problems, its also the nature of how the Sim is built, at least for MSFS 2020. My understanding is that the world is a huge mosaic, with "tiles" like jig-saw puzzle pieces. You fly one one tile to the next, the system loads the next tile and cache's it ahead of the one you are in. I flew this same flight plan for hours on end. From Milford Sound to Christchurch RWY 2. ( Yes I believe Christchurch is hand crafted by Asobo after a previous world update ) And at a way point "Hodde" en route to Christchurch I get the same micro pause in the Sim. The pause lasts for about half a second. It always happens at this point. I suspect that at this point, is the so called "gap" ,between my previous "tile" and the next "tile", the "Tile" that has Christchurch airport and surrounding suburban small townships. The pause occurs as the system is trying to load in this more detailed "tile". Now, the "tile" size may be 50 sq miles less, or more, I dont know. But I suspect that is why I get that pause in the Sim. Because the Christchurch area "tile" contains the airport and suburban town, villages etc and fields, lakes. The pause happens exactly at the same point every time. I tried DLSS, DLAA, TAA DX12(beta) and the usual changes in the NVidia control panel. I also use software such as MSF2020_AutoFPS, Process Lasso to set my sim at high priority. For me this software does help, its not snake oil or placebo. So no matter what I do via settings in the Sim or Nvidai control panel that pause occurs every time at that location. I can reduce it slightly, and I did by going back to DX11 and TAA. And also by capping my FPS in Nvidia control panel to 35FPS. But the pause is ALWAYS there. I suspect if I chose another world area it will occur again. I have to add that as if by some luck there are the occasional world geographies where it does not occur. However, a slight pause DOES occur at most large airports 5 miles befor landing, EVERY TIME !! sadly. The knack, so to speak is to make your own adjustments to reduce it. So to end all my waffle here !!, I may go and upgrade my PC for a complete new system, but not yet, (not much change out of £4000 pounds !! dollars !! or whatever !!.) New hardware, CPU and GPU and DDR5 memory etc will undoubtedly help. Thats fine I do understand that, and speaking seriously thats where new hardware can have a big affect in performance. But I am holding back until I see what MSFS 2024 offers in the way of better optimisation. And of course by end of 2024 Nvidia will launch the 50 series GPU's. But thats another story !!. Thank you for insights to a common problem that most flight Sim enthusiasts encounter. Whether on a Mid Tier system or High End system. Ohh, and I subscribed to your channel, as hoping for more helpful information to flight sim common issues. Prologue : I am not convinced that SU 15 has done much for optimisation. Asobo should be applauded for many of the changes within SU 15, but optimisation ?, not so sure.

Was hoping for multi-core support (not just 'multi-thread' which IS, apparently a 'new' feature for 2024 version) to improve performance and given most folks have 8-core cpus or more running msfs... but the maintaining x-box compatibility may be holding that back (?) At any rate, while they have gotten some nice gaming improvements, from a pure simulation perspective, I'm not holding my breath waiting for release day as I was for MSFS. That said, MSFS is still the prettiest sim on the block, hands-down, not counting the amazing 3rd party sceneries and add-on aircraft (spelled PMDG) and other 'toys' you can buy for your model railroad setup (I mean flight sim). Agree that this launch is not as exciting as the initial MSFS2020 launch...I think after the FSExpo presentation Asobo will unveil some features that the core sim community is more interested in and that could rise the level on anticipation. The current sim is a true marvel of engineering and artistry and the way they have incrementally improved it over the last 4 years gives me hope that with some new underlying architecture they can get us even closer to sim nirvana over the next 5-10 years.

I actually think the main reason they decided to make msfs2024 is because they ran into a wall with what they could do with Xbox and the demands that 3rd party addons needed were not being met. I think the reason the rewrote a lot of the code in 2024 is for the XBOX users. I think you might be pleasantly surprised with the new version. I hope they segregate the 2 products and their updates, one for XBOX and one for PC but I don't think that is what they're doing.

I'm with you on the compatibility, the first 6-12 months after release will be quite a clusterfk of compatibility issues as everyone settles into the new sim start loading in all their add-ons. With any new software it's to be expected. I think Asobo is trying to get ahead of it by releasing the SDK to the 3rd party devs 4-5 months before release, but no level of beta testing can replace the experience of millions of users using the program on their different machines and add-on combos so it will be a bit messy at first.

If it is like with the FS2020, that after 15 updates (SU15 causes even more stutters), they have not yet managed to get the FS to run smoothly (without stutters) on PC, I have little confidence in the fs2024. What's the point of beautiful scenery if the FS doesn't run smoothly? Microsoft/Asobo should offer the FS2024 as an update for FREE for registered users of FS2020 if FS2024 would be so much better as we are once again led to believe (just like in the start-up period of fs2020). This is to compensate for our feedback and, above all, a lot of patience. I would almost say because of their fumbling.

If that's the case, performance might actually be similar to or better than MSFS 2020 while offering a much more nice looking experience. That said I'm not getting my hopes up, I expect most likely it's going to be a resource hog and need us to upgrade our machines - which for me means I probably won't be able to play it until at least 2027 or 2028 since I don't intend to build a new machine until I've had this one for 6-7 years or so.

having been a beta tester for 2020 and had my socks well and truly blown off at the beginning I have sadly watched on as the quality of the scenery has been dummed down again and again so that x box oweners could use the sim. it and 2024 are just a pale immitation of what was promised at the launch of 2020, it is so sad that laminars progress makes paint drying a super fast sport as they have missed out big time, so now we with PC's are destined toi using 10% of our performance just because the bean counters wanted the xplane kiddies, just like aviation with the grounding of concorde we are now going backwards
@CaptainChairbus
@CaptainChairbus 17 дней назад
It's an interesting take...I can't speak to the degradation in performance and scenery because I didn't fully transition over to MSFS from X-plane until mid 2023 so I didn't witness the downgrading of LOD's and other features that I heard were limited due to the dual-compatibility with XBOX and PC. I am hoping they announce that both versions will have seperate updates for XBOX and PC at the expo in 2 weeks. Otherwise it will always be limited by the XBOX user experience. The UI in MSFS2020 is a really good example of how the XBOX usability got priority over how a PC user would use the sim if it was natively built exclusively for PC. Would be cool to see them unveil a new UI for PC that makes more sense. I agree X-Plane missed out big time, I was truly rooting for them to put up a fight with MSFS but it seems like MSFS2020 and the 3rd party developer community has fully embraced and moved over to MSFS. Great line : "it is so sad that laminars progress makes paint drying a super fast sport as they have missed out big time" 🤣. I actually enjoyed X-Plane 11 far more than X-Plane 12. I don't know what they're doing but I'm fully behind MSFS and their endeavors to hopefully bring us all closer to sim Nirvana.

@@CaptainChairbus One can only hope, but we are all guilty of constant tweaking and adding more and more things to the base sim to make it 'prettier', and we all expect to run with sliders on max and performance set to ULTRA. The reality is that much of the add-on stuff is not really well-optimized, and there are only so many 'resources' to be handled by your hardware. Even with 4090 cards and 16-core CPUS, you find many situations where the sim will stutter and/or 'freeze' for periods of time. UNACCEPTABLE in this day and age, but there you have it. A more primitive (and uglier) sim like XPlane or P3D will fly smoother, but is the ugly stepsister of MSFS. And like humans in general, pretty beats efficiency.

In a recent developer stream, the head of Asobo said there has been an issue with 3rd party scenery developers adding too many objects to the scenery, causing issues due to the object count and poor optimization (not utilizing LODs). I am setting my expectations that the same issues will be present in 2024 even though I am hoping Asobo comes up with some way to limit 3rd party non-optimized sceneries' hit on performance. Correct me if I am wrong but one thing that I noticed is just how smooth and fluid everything is moving. At one point you talk about it when the passengers were loading into the plane from the jetway. There was a part in the video the makes me believe that this was recorded twice as fast and played back normal. This is used in a lot of flight videos to make the video look lifelike and fluid. There is a portion of the video that shows this. In your video at around 56.37 you can see briefly how fast the strobe light is flashing. You pause the video on that so it’s hard to see but if you watch a video showing that portion of the video you can see that the strobe light is flashing twice as fast. Obviously this is my own opinion and I only noticed it because there are videos that show hyper realism that use this. Anyway I’m very excited for November. Great breakdown by the way. Thank you.
